All Daewoo cars purchased from Jan 01 do not come with warranty to cover worn parts.

However if your service guide(page 10) states that worn parts are covered, then you can get the work done.

Daewoo know about this mistake, and treat each claim on an individual basis.

However if you have it in writing, and they dont carry out the work under warranty, take them to court, you will win!

I bought a new matiz ez+ in February of this year and immediately had cold start problems. It was jumping and losing acceleration. I took this into a Daewoo service centre where they tried to rectify the problem however, 2 months on and the problem persists. The car has now developed a potentially dangerous fault whereby during transit all pedals stiffen, the gearbox freezes and the steering fails. Then engine cuts outs with the systems check lights animated. I have again had the car looked at by Daewoo who can't seem to find the problem but expect me to drive around in the car - it is still stalling during transit. I have now involved the solicitors and under the sale and supply of goods act am refusing the vehicle. If they refuse to give me a new car then they will be taken to court whereby they will have to refund any monies I have made thus far. I suggest that if anyone is having similar problems then they take some legal advice and refuse the car. It is useful to know that the law states that to mend the vehicle under warrenty is not acceptable. The car is now haveing an inspection by a private engineer, however, I would like to know whether anyone else has suffered similar problems and what the problem might be.

Purchased my Matiz in March 2001. Was
told 3 year warranty applied, yet was charged £18 for new wiper blades - the originals lasted barely a year.

Now back brakes jam on even when the handbrake is released. This happens in damp weather when the car has been stationary ie overnight. Car refuses to move in any direction for some time.

Car has 9000 miles on it to date and Daewoo say they are not liable as it is a brake problem and brakes are not covered by the warranty. Wont admit it's a design fault - moist air getting between shoe and drum and causing shoe to adhere to drum.

I've driven many cars for many years and have never encountered this problem before.

Can it be that the Matiz will turn out to be a bundle of junk?

One year ago March 2001 , after careful consideration, we purchased a brand new Daewoo matiz se plus for 8500 pounds on the advice given by the Daewoo sales-team in Colwick Nottingham that all servicing costs including parts and labour would be included for three years.

My daughter had purchased the same model a year previous to this and was offered the same contract re servicing. I previously owned a convertible but had become increasingly apprehensive about ever increasing servicing costs.

We were advised the only item we were liable to pay replacement costs for would be the tyres should they wear within the 3 year period. Excellent! In my discussions with the sales person I mentioned that other manufacturers were also offering 3 year warranties and I was informed that the other manufacturers were only copying the Daewoo idea, but were not including parts in their guarantees I was satisfied with this explanation and purchased the car.

We were further informed that even should the vehicle require interim oil ,parts replacement inc light bulbs etc then these items would be covered within the agreement and as such just simply take the vehicle to the Daewoo garage in Colwick from where we had purchased the car and these items would be seen to without cost to us under the service agreement..

My mileage for the first year was 6800 miles. Imagine my surprise then when collecting the car from the Millennium garage in Nottingham I was informed at the reception desk"do you want the good news or the bad news sir". I was informed that in January 2001 the Daewoo company changed it's service package.
Wear and tear parts such as brake shoes, timing belts and presumably anything else which requires replacement is not covered under their agreement. On this occasion I was charged for new wiper blades, which incidentally had squeaked since new. I refused to pay for these items and the charge was waved, I apologised to the service assistance for my displeasure at being presented with a parts cost and was told that they experience similar reactions from all their customers who have purchased new cars since Jan 2001.

My concern here is not the issue of the wiper costs, but what is awaiting the purchaser on the next two subsequent services.

If you want a cheap reliable car, don't buy one of these. Be warned.

Bought the car new late November 2001. Curret miles only 700
Car returned due to Drivers seat being incorrectly fitted.

Towed in by the AA with a gearbox fault. Large hole in the gearbox housing apparently produced by an assembly error.

Daewoo had the car for two weeks because two incorrect gearboxes were sent!

Finally after two weeks I was contacted and told that the correct gearbox had arrived but could you keep the car for an extra day so that a thorough road test could be carried out to make absolutely certain everything was working fine.

Matiz returned again due to difficulty with gear selection. I was informed the gear linkages needed adjusting!

Without a car again

Oil patch from the gearbox area; The AA confirmed this.

Matiz towed back to showroom by the AA.

Only sales staff at the show room, so unable to obtain courtesy car. The AA could not supply a car as the Matiz was towed from my home address.

Without a car again.

Buying this car was a BIG mistake

Great little car, everyone loves its pretty looks and are suprised by how much space it has inside. Mine is 2 years old Mk 1, no problems other than wet starts, fixed by lots of WD40. Very nippy in town and I love the little engine, its like a kitten trying to be a tiger. Only problem is its awful on hills and overtaking on big roads.

Now then, take into account that this car is designed with a particular market in mind. The people who say it doesn't accelerate fast enough or the boot is too small "HAVE BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR!" This car is tremendous & meets the purpose for which it was designed. It's "economical, reliable, modern & value for money" My wife pays £120 for her group 2 comprehensive insurance! She puts fuel in it once a month because she only uses it for local running about. It starts 1st time "every time". Te A.A cover is neither use nor ornament because she's never used it! When it required service last July, Daewoo picked it up & dropped it off! All this is a dream for me, I get my days off to myself instead of bouncing back & forth with the old jalopy we used to have. If you want safety, security & less earache from the other half, then this IS the car for you. Our Daewoo doesn't bang, squeak or rattle. The salespeople at Daewoo don't get commssion, they get satisfaction from nice letters that are received by their head office. Mrs Emma Bull will send you a very gratifying reply regardless of what other people say. Well done Daewoo,10/10.

This car was bought to replace a mini as a round town runabout. The tiny little 800cc engine has to be worked quite hard if you want quick(ish) getaways but thats really only a problem for me and not for herself that drives it, it is more economical than mini was and much more comfortable even over all the traffic humps round here but does not handle as well. Its also better to park with its power steering. The boot is tiny but you can fold the seats down if you need space.Ours has aircon but frankly I think this is a waste of time given the weather we have and also when you switch it on you can feel the poor engine working that much harder trying to cope with it and my driving.
Cheap round the town shopping trolley, that will be the daewoo matiz!
