250 bhp out of a twin weber 1300 engine, i don't think so. Even the ultra modern 2 litre touring cars only have 300 bhp. Bearing in mind that these cars are set up professionally with proper factory back up in terms of money. Still if they ever read this they will ditch their 2 litre lump and put in a 1300 Ford lump. It makes you wonder why Ford bothered making the RS range of saloons.

I once owned a 1973 MK2 RS2000 Turbo saloon, great car, independant suspension all round giving a smooth ride. Although my car was completely standard the performance was excellent, especially when the turbo kicked in. The 6-cylinder engine was a real smoothy, but fuel consumption was a little heavy. I would never go back to a 4-cylinder car after owning that Escort. Brakes were brilliant due to all round discs, no servo assistance but i found you didn't need it. Some owners prefer to have a non-standard servo fitted for modern day motoring, but this does of course take away the originality of the car. I never had any complaints from the slick 5-speed gearbox, not many cars offered with that feature in 1973. I only wish my 1971 Escort had a 5-speed gearbox. The only problem i found with the MK2 is the front trunnions kept wearing out quickly, possibly due to the performance potential. But this was forgiven with the rasp from the twin exhaust system. I would certainly buy another, i only wish i could buy a new MK2 like i did way back in 1973.

I own a Nissan Skyline and it will leave your hopelessly underpowered BDA 1800 ESCORT panting for breath before it reaches 30 mph.
i own WTW 561S, A RECCE CAR FOR THE FORD WORKS TEAM, ALTHOUGH THERE WERE ABOUT 9 ACTUALLY BUILT, IN ONE FORM OR ANOTHER, IT IS A BASIC GROUP B WITH A RS1800 TC IN IT. TO ADD TO THE COMMENTS OF CRS, I BELIVE YOU ARE AUSTRALIAN,and believe or not, i had an original 1300 ghia on an N plate 2 door, with a steel rear bulkhead from the factory, and it had four branch as standard and it had a baby atlas axle as standard, it appears the car was built in early 1974 for demo and test purposes and was original when it was sold in the swansea area, reg number, for you all to check, was HEP 274N, HAPPY HUNTING ON THIS YEARS WELSH ROAD RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP, THE FIRST ROUND IS ON THE 7TH OF FEB, CARDIGAN

I recently got an E reg XR3i convertible off my Dad. It's the one I used to pinch when him and my mum were off on holiday and I was left alone with the keys and my mates! It brings back memories and is just as much fun as I remember but by todays standards doesn't not as quick as I'd like...I'm sure my modded mini would blow it out' the water. Still good for getting a tan in the jams in summer. Ford parts are everywhere. Insurance stings a bit for such a car, like I say, compared to todays equivalents it's not the quickest. Only one problem, which two other friends of mine with the same car experience, is the swimming pool inside after rain. Anyone know how,why or where the water gets in and how to fix it? My aqua-vac is getting bored of it now! Still fun to drive though..need to get sticky front tyres though if you floor it from standing!
