i have only just got my mk3 cabriolet in azura blue with a series one bodykit it has a full superflow exhaust system and a pipercross induction kit which was a nightmare to get hold of but it really has improved the bhp which is now 120bhp due to exhaust splitfire plugs and filter it is a real head turner and ilove the car to bits.i originally owned a 130bhp golf gti 8v with 17"alloys full magnex system and a k&n and beleive it or not i straight swapped it for this escort but what the hell im happy with it and i think i always will be
My 1985 Escort Cabriolet is gorgeous. As with all Fords [so it seems], as a German made model it is extremely well put together, and its reliability is second to none. It is a real head-turner and I love it [the car!!!] Parts are still ceasily available, and far cheaper than most modern cars.
im only 14 and i bought a 75 esky for a paddock bomb for only $500. after about a fortnight i fell in love with it. the four door is now my first project. im currently looking for extractors and a twin weber manifold.about one week later i picked up a commodore to thrash
I have Escort 1.1 HC (45hp) which I've got from my grandma which bought it in Germany in 1970. So the car is in family for about 32 years. I'm driving it for about 4 years and it had never stopped on the road. I would like to know what to do with the engine to get more power? My e-mail is [Log in to view email]
1973 Mk 1 2 dr fsh 38k miles, a lovely almost modrn drive but the braking is terrible, would have been ahead of its time, two speed wipers inc wash/wipe on flor, no heated rear window though which one does take for granted, have it 4 years I rate 10/10 not one problem/breakdown. E
my escort 1.4 cost £200 and is excellent, it purrs like a kitten when at the lights a roars like a tiger pulling away! your thrown into your seat, and by the time your sitting back up your doing about 40mph just a couple of seconds later!
Its was the ultimate big boys toy for myself and my friends ...Some of us have never grown out of them....Typical of ford they are cheap and easy to modify by swapping bits from other Fords and even more than that "they go sideways!!!"..Thankfully boy racers have left them behind in favour of modern alternatives...Currently I have a Mk1 Cortina 3 Litre, but I still miss my old Mk1 Mex' .....
1983 - 1.3L - 83,000 - started to rust from rear wheel arches and battery tray. Carburettor failed twice within 3 years (ouch!) - offside tyre wear excessive - rusted floorpan on passenger side means no carpets!!
I've had a 1.6 now for a few months and although it takes a couple of starts in the morning, i've had no problems. 1983 - no rust, 74,000 miles and when warmed up, gives other mini cars a good run for speed. Ideal to learn about cars and to fix as the CVH engine is simple. Although next car has to be a BMW I think to compenstate!
Have had a 1983 1.3GL for over 3 years now. When I bought it, it had 19k miles on the clock and I have never looked back. Although the bodywork is starting to look shabby and the engine getting a little oily, it has never let me down. Although not the easiest to start every morning, if my next car is as reliable, I will have no complaints!
I paid £1300(Orion 1.4), after 6 months, 7000 miles, NO mainenance, sold for £1100. Never really let me down except damp in the distributor (easily solved with kitchen roll)
I had a 1.6i cabriolet version of this car.I liked the fact that the hood did not affect passenger space(boot was a bit small though). The hood would leak if you parked it uphill for some reason it was not reliable and the engine felt a bit gutless and rough.I dont miss it!!
Solid and reliable, with goods parts availablility both new and second hand. Engine has good tuning potential, particularly the RS and Mexico derivatives. Once a boy racers dream, although they seem to have moved on now to more modern cars, leaving the Escort to the enthusiast. Unfortunately, this may make it difficult to find good original examples.
