I have had a few mk2 festers now. Love them, easy to work on and sort and probs ur self. Cheap parts. Reliable enough for cars of their age. To anyone who says their car can beat another, whatever. Most drivers on the road wont race, or not properly. Why bother. Put your car on a track and sprint test it. Then u know how quick it really is.
Just got my first car its a 1 Litre ford Fiesta popular plus iam very very pleased with it.
it is a 89 G it has done 26 thousand miles pristine condition very reliable doesent use a lot of petrol revs freely, not that fast but will shift like any other ford if you put ure foot down
i just got a ,92 1.0 fester for cheap transport to get about. its the biggest pile of crap ever it sickenigly slow, not as good on juice as its should be , ugly as hell and drives like a matress on rollerskates . buy a 1.2 nova pepole faster, quieter, proper ohc engines that rev freely and smoothly, muchbetter handling and just as dirt cheap. or even a polo (but ive not had one so i cant say).utter utter utter s**te. dont take it if someone pays you a tenner. SCRAP EM ALL!
I got this little 5 Door Fiesta 1.3LXi at a bargain £800 (June 2002) The engine rattles and burns oil, but I love it! Its much better than my old C reg (1985) 1.1L and is just as good on fuel. The rattly engine problem will be gone soon though as im putting a 2001 model 1.3 Endura-E engine in it!
It will be perfect once the new engine is in it and i am a proud Ford owner!
First car owned - H reg 1.4 lxi. Always starts first time, never broke down. Had a few mods - ported and polished head, new valves/springs/seals, K&N bolt on filter, revs very well now. Uses quite a lot of petrol but hardly burns a drop of oil! Hates being run on supermarket petrol (stalls a lot). Bodywork started to rust a bit but then it is 11 years old. Can't complain!
My car was very pooly though neglect from previouse owner when i started using her back in November but i pumped a lot of TLC and a bit of money and now she's somuch better. I feel the ONLY thing letting the performance of my 1988 1.1L Irish import down is the suspension and the thin wheels! Still Exelent engine although a tad loud! Starting to get a bit rusty which i will sort cause pannels are nice and cheap. I do spend a lot on repairs (including famouse electrical problem on rear lights) but i do about 1000-1500 miles a month and in comparison repairs are cheap!!!! Wouldnt part with it even when i need a bigger car i wont trade it in! As i write this the milage is 77772. I recomend these cars!!!!!! My farther also had a 1985 one a few years ago and again... a brill little car/work horse
All good, but sounds like a ho on its one day off and DESPERSTLY needs a 5speed box!!!!Dont like timing/cam chain Watta u rekon?? [Log in to view email]
hi just recently bought a mk3 1.1 pop+. its is 3door and galaxy (dark) blue. i just got a full delta body kit and a blue neon ground kit fitted. the car is v.reliable apart from it only running on 3 cylinders at the mo. only spark plug needs replacing though. also got a t.v and dvd that just about finish's it off. lovely car.
I had a 1.6i XR2i (the old CVH lump) for about 3 or so months after a Mark2 XR2. I loved my old XR2 but I never managed to love the 2i. It was the most unreliable car I have had with unimpressive handling and nothing special in the power department. Anybody who thinks an XR2i is a fast car needs to go and find a proper car to have a go in. The 2i had a very uncomfortable driving position with horrible seats and boot space is a joke as with all Fiesta's. The CVH engine is a fairly strong little beast as long as it hasn't been thrashed and is well looked after. They do not like being thrashed at all and easily start burning more oil than petrol. The only thing that these have going for them is the sporty looks for a hatchback. Save up and then look around for something better built and more powerful. The insurance on these is also a killer. I got quoted about 50% more on an XR2i than my 140mph Celica, how does that work?
i have just bought a 1990 xr2i, it is my second car and what can i say, its the mutts nuts, the compleat daddy of cars! mines black with tints, ive put my own tunes in which consists of 2 x 12" subs with 2 x 7x10"s!it really is the best car around, ive had no problems with it at all, i reckomend one to any up for it fun loving geezer or geezet!! ;o)
I'm now on my second mk1 fezzy. Both have never let me down, my current one (a mk1 XR2) is the solid-est thing on wheels. It handles as well as my old mini and takes the bends far better than the newer mk2 XR2. MOT time is a breeze, being made in germany means the car benefits from the same steel as ancient VW's.. hence any rust is a real surprise.
Performance isn't too bad (better than a KA, worse than an RST) but who cares, you can still out-corner most things !! Wahey!!!
Unfortunately it really drinks the fuel, but what do you expect for a 1.6 with only 4 gears ! Also, mk1 XR2 parts are as rare as a tax rebate...still, mk2 stuff usually fits.
Very reliable, incredibly responsive and ...its unique ... Its a modern classic.!!
I have a 1977 MK I 1100 L series, beautiful car, never let me down. I have done 100,000 miles in this, pushing it right round the clock, and its still as sweet as a nut. The KENT engines are superb, and the DIY servicing has got to be the best. Parts are dirt cheap, and welding not to expensive. Wish I could find more of them on the road.
I've just regained my youth, by getting a 1990 xr2i as a little bit of fun. And what more could i ask for its no merc but its great. The drivers side door had a little rust but as soon as that was done no problem. It goes like a rocket and its easy to maintain as it is just a ford ( and we all know how easy ford parts are to come by) .. So my advice is if its not to rusty get it.............. E-mail if you have any great tips on them or if you want to pick my [Log in to view email]
I currently own an oil burning, door- handle flapping rust bucket also known as an H reg. Fiesta 1.1 LX,which is my first venture in to the world of automotive suicide. But I love it! It's got alloys, sun roof and a 4- speaker digital stereo. Best of all it does about 45-50mpg, using more oil than it does petrol.
I have a Mk 3 1.1 LX 'H' reg fiesta and it's a lovely little car! It's my first car and it's perfect for what I want. I have only had one major problem with it so far...it leaks! The footwells are very soggy, I don't know whats wrong with it, and I can't afford to get it sorted out! It is also a very noisy car, which is the only thing I don't like about it. A few spots of rust coming through too. I am going to get a newer car before the whole car turns into a rust bucket!
I've had lots of things go wrong with the car (it is 12 years old!) but the engine and layout means that nearly all the jobs can be undertaken by the DIY mechanic - saving a fortune on mechanics bills!
The suspension is not so great and if the cars ot had new ones braking will be affected...
Having owned my car for 6 years+ I thought it was time to peep it up a little. See how we get on restoring and modifing the 1979 Fiesta L at http://www.diyfiesta.co.uk
My mk3 1600 si is a nightmare! I have every conceivable kind of trouble with the thing! parts wear out at an alarming rate( brake pads, discs, tyres suspension, bushes). At the moment im having trouble with the steering components, steering rack. The car is extremely quick for such a low insurance group and looks good. The engine burns a lot of oil and is not economical at all! I struggle to get 30 Mpg at any time! The ride is extremely harsh on the country roads i use. The interior is brilliant, especially the fantastic rally style bucket seats! I suppose im just cynical but i wouldnt recomend buying an si! If you were after a sporty car id buy a 205 1.6 gti they are the ultimate car and an immaculate one can be had for 2500.
Hi, I've we've had a Fiesta MK2 in the family for 12yrs and its a little beauty. Now I'm modifying it and wondered if anyone can give me some low cost ideas on what to do and if possible - how to de-badge it. Cheers. Email me if you can help.
1.1LX. Extremely reliable, good driver, room for my 6'2" frame, 45-50mpg however I drive. Good standard equipment for type of car. Better in almost every way (except rust) than the Peugeot 205 Rust is a problem and it is quite noisy, but overall one of the best cars I have owned.
