I'm sorry i always thought the Fiesta was purchased by retired couples! I also thought the Fiesta was merely a car intended to take shopping once a week. It seems as though i am grossly incorrect on both accounts. Mind you i find it difficult to say Fiesta and performance in the same breath. The point i am making is yes your XR2 may be nippy, but a BMW M5 is bloody fast, prehaps you need to wake up. O' and how many old people do you know that drives a 155 mph car (with a speed limiter fitted) as opposed to that old hopeless, unreliable, rot ridden relic the likes of you drive. Still never mind one lucky day you may be able to afford that BMW M5, trouble is its so much quicker than your existing shopping trolly that you would be too frighted to drive it!

To all the doubters saying a 1100 will not do 105, its not that it can do 105, what the owners mean is that it deserved to do a 105. (For the record mine will do 85ish, a low mileage two owner car).

All this talk of XR2's and Nova's, hasn't any of you heard of the best hot hatch you can buy. The original, fastest, quickest and ultimate hot hatch, the Golf GTi MK1. This car was the first and finest of all hot hatches. I'm afraid no Ford, Vauxhall etc will ever take its crown as KING of the hot hatches. It will of course run rings around the opposition in the handling stakes. It will certainly make mince meat of any other hot hatch on the road in a straight line race. Looks like your hopeless XR2 and Nova are no where in the running. So next time you see a MK1 Golf GTi, bow to the KING, after all its not worth getting a hiding in front of all your mates. LONG LIVE THE KING GTi.

WELL ALL I CAN SAY IS THAT THE FIESTA MUST BE THE ONLY CAR NOT TO SUFFER FROM SPEEDO ERROR, IS THAT ALSO A SCIENTIFIC FACT.

I have had two mk1's, in fact I still have the second one. I am putting two new front wings on currently, but this is the first bodywork it has ever needed.

These cars can be very good with some cheap modifications, and the end results are definitely worth the money.

My first fiesta was a 950 popular, was an incredibly tatty car, but always reliable, and still a laugh in the corners.

As for comments on 1100's doing 98mph, it is entirely possible.

Scientifically, if you have say 145/80/13 tyres, with the 1100 gearbox ratios (3.58 final drive and 0.88 top gear) and you are pushing 5000rpm, the mathematical top speed is 104mph

Now, I know for a fact that engine power and air resistance have to be taken in to account, but on a downhill on a calm day (or with following wind) 90mph+ is easily achievable, it just takes a while to get there!!

Anyway, my current fiesta is one for keeps, nothing in the road today has the sheer cheekiness or the fun factor of this car.

Wonderful little toy.
