I have an R reg Vectra 2.5 SRI. This is possibly one of the worst cars I have ever owned. I bought when it was 6 months old and have had many, many problems ever since. Mainly, engine management light coming on, loss of power, stalling (very bloody dangerous whilst driving in the fast lane of the motorway). Bought from and taken back to Bellingers of Wantage (they have now washed their hands of us). We have now spent approximately £1500.00, having every sensor changed and just recently £350.00 on the mass airflow meter and guess what, nothing has changed. Apparently this is very unusual for Vectras!!!!! I dont think so!! ANY HELP FROM ANYONE IN THE SAME SITUATION WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED.
I got a 99T vectra at 6 months old in late 1999. it's now done 80000 miles and is driving me up the wall!!! The engine management system seems flaky to say the least, i've had various sensors replaced and am now so pissed off with shelling out money for it. One thing i have had success with is checking that all the sensors are plugged together correctly - a couple plastic connectors in mine seemed to work their way loose and pushing them back together seemed to fix it for a few months, then other problems start. i think mine is a general 'bad apple'.
just got a 98 Vectra 1.8 auto 2500. nice comfortable car until!!!!! The nextday battery went Then insesant knocking on the left side, may be the bushes!!! now 2 weeks on the engine electronics keeps faulting out paralising the care into emergency driving mode. Damm it, saved bloody hard to raise 2500 any1 any ideas or more to the point the cost!!!! Cheers
I have a T reg 1999 Vectra 2.0 LS 16 valve. A week ago i went out to go to work, and nothing! No power whatsoever.Central locking won't open and when i turn ignition nothing happens. No lights on panel-nothing. I've tested the battery and all the fuses etc-fine. I've tested for the earthing strip-fine. Has anyone had a similar problem or can offer me a solution or something new to try? Getting seriously pist of now! I'm trying every avenue before i get it looked at professionally-cos we all know how costs just seem to rise and rise when your motor is in the garage! If you can offer anything then please email me at; [Log in to view email]
98 2Ltr SRI 140 Kept Stalling - Idle control valve Boot lock stopped working Back box fell off (Actualy not that loud without it) Steering squeeks when turning the wheel Whole console makes funny noises when heater is on Hand brake is crap Not very fast
I have previously left a review on this site and hears another. I got the loosing power thing sorted it was the crankshaft gear that had a tooth missing cost £236.99 cost of part was £21.00 the rest labour and vat (RIP OFF) then since the last mechanic had his hands on it the bloody thing started smoking like a destoyer and i do mean smoking no-one knew what it was Vauxhall Factory themselves had no idea Vauxhall dealers had no idea my two useless mechanics supposedly had no idea but I do doubt this, at a cost of £500.00 the engine was replaced with another and a further cost of £539.92 this was the labour charges, vat and replacement parts needed on the new engine, the smoking has since stopped and I should hope so to this car has so far cost me £3000.00 purchase price and £2500.00 for repairs my advise dont buy a vectra dont even have one given. I have not had a free month sice buying this car in Dec 02 where it has not been repaired, hopefully by changing my mechanic and complete engine I should not have anymore problems fingers crossed
I liked everything about the vectra until i made the mistake of spending £6000 on one. in the 12 months of owning it i have not gone a month where i have not had to spend over a ton to get it running again...Im sure the ecu shuts a sensor down on a timer so suckers like me have to pay out for a new one...I do not think there is a sensor left on the car that has not been replaced...its got to go before i have to start the whole cycle of buying all these sensors all over again..my advise see a vectra run as fast as you can in the other direction...there is one other thing that drains my wallet faster than owning the vectra is the misses...
I bought an N reg vectra 2.0ltr GLS saloon in 2000 for £5k when 4 yrs old with 77,000 mls on the clock. Apart from tyres, oil changes etc its had a radiator, water pump, head gasket, two front springs, an air/throttle control valve, and camshaft and crankshaft sensors. It's now done 145,000 mls - never had a clutch and starts first time everyday. It's never once failed to start or let me down. Total running cost over 70,000 mls has been 16p per mile including depreciation (its now worth £1K)fuel, oil, tax, insurance and servicing. It delivers 32 MPG no matter how hard you drive it and frankly in value for money terms it takes a lot of beating. It's the smoothist 4 cylinder engine I've come across in 30 yrs of motoring. It uses a ltr of oil in every 5000 mls but a recent compression test showed no sign of any engine wear. It's a little sluggish at low revs but when it gets over 3000 revs it flies. It'll do 30 in first, 65 in second, 103 in third and around almost twice the legal limit in fifth (not me officer). I'd buy another anytime they are great cars and so cheap to run - in fact I just have. This time a T reg SRi 140 which at £6K with 39000 on the clock is the bargain of the decade.
I own the 2.2 SRi and it is a brilliant car to drive. It has a very well made and comfortable interior. The car feels incredibly light for a big car and the SRi has very good handling. Love the car and wouldn't hesitate to buy another
i own an '98 OPEL vectra 2.0i cd 4 door saloon car (yes, an opel, with left side steering wheel), bought in december 2001 with 42000KM for 14000, a opel portuguese service car. When a bought it, they fixed the direction (column, box and a knot inside the steering wheel), and a/c lights. after 6000km, the direction problem came back, and they replaced the column again, under warranty. with more 10000km, it has started making noises from the direction when turning right, it still does, but that's ok, it doesn't affect driving. now, with 74000km, it is starting to fail, and sometimes stalls, when stoping, and the motor diagnostics light turns on. I've also notices a motor support cracked and oil leaking from the valve junction. It's repairing right now, and it's going to be a great blown in my wallet. besides that, no problem, and wouldn't trade it for nothing. I'm just considering adding a turbo a lowering the suspension. watch out, subaru's and lancer's!!!!!!
Hi, I have the humming noise when i start the car. Dunno what it is, some sort of motor that does summat!
Had my Vectra about 3 weeks now, but needs to go back to the garage to have the idle valve replaced. I have a 97 1.8 arctic. Pretty decent car. Hopefully having the idle wotsit replaced will stop it stalling when you drop the revs.
Have a late '98 Vectra CDX 2.0 Auto. When I first started it, there was a humming noise from under the bonnet which lasted about 2 - 3 minutes. Have recently had to change the battery,( due to failed alternator), now the noise is more of a whine rather than a hum. Any other drivers have [Log in to view email]
I bought a vectra 1.6 16v 1996 P reg for £3000.00 in dec 02 I have had nothing but trouble from this car. I had the car two days back box needed replacing mechanic did this for free. I had it for less than a month a clip on the timing belt snapped resulting in belt snappting damage to engine cost £546.00 for non spec parts done at trade price by same mechanic. March 03 needed new egr valve costing £267.00 by CD Bramall YORK, stopped problem with engine management light coming on and cutting engine out. April 03 can now wont bloody well go above 40mph it is the biggest bag of crap I have ever had the misfortune to come across. I have had approx 6-10 mechanics look at this car vauxhall mechanics at that apart from 2 of them and no-one has any idea why the car seems to be losing power. I can be at a junction and it will take the car ages to set off from the junction. No lights on the dash to signal a fault all major parts have been tested car has been on three vauxhall computers and shows there is nothing wrong with the car. I have sat outside a car I paid £3000.00 for through my mechanic from a dealer friend of his that I cannot drive above 40mph. I contacted cd bramall who say they valve is not at fault so they wont replace it but this has only happened since they replaced the valve. Can anyone shed any light on what it can be and have you experienced the same problem.
I bought a 98 S reg 2.0 sri Vectra in September 2002. The only thing that has gone wrong is the engine management light coming on occasionally causing a lack of power. I took it to the nearest Vauxhall dealer and they told me it could be the cam belt sensor costing well over £100 to replace. I was well pist off due to the fact Id only had the car 6 months. After talking to a neighbour, who has owned Vauxhalls all his driving life (sad)! He suggested I change the air filter at a cost of £6. What a difference. The problem has been solved and with the added use of Millers SSX 10/40 motor oil, the car feels and sounds much better.
Idle Control failure; Jams open or cuts out. Had two so far (Vauxhall introduced a mode to fix the problem going OK since) Digital display faults; Pixel dropouts usually caused by another electrical fault in the system. Mine was due to faulty Cam sensor. Once replaced all pixels OK. Engine Over Running when switched off; Garage say it's down to the ECU had 3 fitted so far and all the components up and including the Ignition switch and Key barrel. Problem is diagnostics say that a rouge signal is telling the injector value to stay open when it should close after ignition goes off.
Had to pay for the initial ECU and Idle Control but covered under extended AA warranty, after that the Dealer (CrownHill in MK) have born the costs.
I OWN A 1997 (R) 2.0 LSDI VECTRA, BROUGHT WITH 81,000 ON CLOCK, HAD BAD STARTING PROBLEMS WHEN LEFT STANDING FOR MORE THAN 17 HRS, WOULD NOT START FOR LOVE NOR MONEY, TILL THE CAR LOT FROM WHERE I BROUGHT IT ASKED VAUXHALL WHAT WAS CAUSING IT, IT WAS A CONVERSION FOR THE DIESEL RETURN FEED FROM THE PUMP TO THE FUEL INLET PIPE, THE PARTS USED WOULD COST ABOUT £9 FORM YOUR LOCAL MOTOR FACTORS, NEVER HAD A PROBLEM SINCE, STARTS EVERY TIME, BUT NOW I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE REMOTE CENTRAL LOCKING, CHANGED THE BATTERY BUT STILL NOT WORKING,VAUXHALL DEALER TOLD ME UNLOCK THE DOOR GET IN SHUT DOOR, TURN ON IGNITION LIGHTS AND PRESS BOTH REMOTE BUTTONS TO RE INTIALISE THE CODE SETUP, GUESS WHAT DIDN'T WORK, SO IF ANYONE ELSE CAN HELP PLEASE E-MAIL ME AT [Log in to view email] CHEERS ROB
i have a p reg vectra pretty high milage got from auction at £2,000.seems to have nothing but electrical faults?lights turning on by themselves and running down my battery, not starting sometimes, stalling for no reason, now i have to take th battery out every other day to charge it as its not charging.got new alternator 6 months ago god knows whats wrong with it!
An absolutely smashing car to drive - especially at speed. Perhaps a bit bumpy over rough ground because of the sports suspension on the SRi 2.2 Petrol 150 bhp model but interior comforts and design make it very special indeed.
