Bought Punto SX 1.2 8v 3 years ago and 25k on the mileage. Everything OK so far, except the following: steering veering to the right, recognizable FIAT exhaust rattling has began 1 year ago, but I can go with that, front halogen bulbs are dying on 6 months apart, strange vibrations on the acc-pedal on and above 3600 rpm, brake discs and pads die fast, sparkplugs said to last for 40k, but change every two years regardless of mileage... Otherwise, its quite a "carpe diem" car.

Purchased 55SX brand spanking new in 1995. Wouldn't swap her for the world. Had a few probs ie, alternator went (had it ground down for £80), and the dreaded rear bushes, apart from that just general wear and tear so everything is hunky doory - touch wood - MOT due in 3 weeks. Definately buy another!!!

Bought my Punto when 9 months old and with 9000 miles on the clock. No real headaches until the last few months, apart from two sets of brake pads and disc in the space of a year. Either my other half is too heavy on the brakes or the parts are just crap. Now approaching 60,000 miles and four weeks ago I had the Head Cylinder Gasket blow. Just when I was thinking I would get another year out this car - the clutch pedal starting sticking and now a rattling noise occurs when the pedal is pressed. My opinion is these cars are fine in the first few years - but I have doubts about the quality of parts used.

I purchased a new shape fiat punto which wsa 18 months old. I think that it is the most beautifully designed little car money can buy. every time i look at the car it gives me great pleasure, (The Italians Really Know How To Design) I must admit i had a few teething problems at first but apart from that i love it

Only 13 months old, 9000 miles on the clock, brake pads worn down to metal, new disks & pads cost me £180.(3 year Warranty useless) My old Sierras pads have been in since August 2000, it does twice as many miles as the punto and the brakes are fine.

Fiat Punto TD 5 door not bad but integrated immobilser fails to recognise the key code - A grave error by those Italians as it has left me stranded in all weather, very cross, knowing full well that the car is fine but the toe-rag bit of electronics no doubt off an early example of a pasta machine! I'd prefer it stolen than me unable to start it as the owner!

Their is nothing wrong with the Fiat Punto in its self but the problem is the dealers. Your better of taking to smaller dealers who will actually fix the problem. My punto has done 50K just needed a couple of exhuasts, front brake pads, rear suspension bushes, and lamdba sensor. All the parts are cheap and fitting is usually cheap.

Punto TD (P Reg) Nice and roomy inside without being a very big car outside.
That's all the good things I've got to say about it, so far covered 60k miles and lots of things have gone wrong which I wouldn't expect until nearer 100K on a modern car. The rear trailing arm bushes went at around 50k miles, the heater matrix failed, the clutch slave cylinder failed. Spent £300 on a new bit of electronic gubbins when the integrated immobiliser failed to recognise the key code, has since stranded me numerous times with an intermittent fault in the immobiliser. The alternator belt is virtually impossible to adjust (took two different Fiat dealers two attempts each to get it right and it's now squealing again). Basically very disapointed with the quality of the mechanical design of this car and would not buy another Fiat in a hurry.
