Since I got my Ford Ka for Christmas, I've yet to have a problem. After the initial running in period, the car is beginning to loosen up and boy is it nippy.
Loadsa room for the driver - I'm 6ft 2, and it really looks the part.
My only gripe - The radio. I'm a Ka 1 owner and the radio is really poor. I would upgrade it but I'll have to buy a £12 fascia!
I have just traded my Punto in for a brand new W reg Ford Ka yesterday .... but I don't get it until Wednesday - it's driving me NUTS!!!! I just can't wait. Have I done the right thing? (oh, and it's in 'copper glow'!)
i have been a ka owner for three years now and i have tuned it up by using a high performance air filter and exhaust along with a superchip and 16 inch alloys
Had the opportunity to drive one of these whilst my car was in for accident repair. Not the most powerful of small cars but very very impressed with comfort, noise level and handling. Well done Ford
I love my Ka, its all you need in a small car, I am even thinking of getting the body Kit for it, to become a girl racer

I've had my car from new for 3 years, regularly serviced and now have the problem of the spark plugs having corroded into the head, risking them snapping off. The garage where I've just had my 30000 mile service (not Ford) say that this is a problem they've encountered in several KAs. Other than this I've been very happy with my KA. Therese

Had my KA since it was born in May 2000. Has been brilliant up until last month when the exhaust dropped off through rust and now the over revving has started.Reading through previous comments I understand this was picked up in a FORD Technical bulletin .This is probably very niave but if they knew it was a problem will I still need to pay for it to be cured???? cheers Beth

Engine on the Ka is always very tappety, also the brakes on the Ka is hard to get used to, you really have to put your foot down hard for the brakes to come on. Fords should look at this [Log in to view email]

Well by the sound of things, you know nothing about cars full stop. Where's the evidence of this major rust problem, or did you dream it up. I think it is more likely that you have mistaken another make of car which had rusted and thought it was a KA. The KA is without doubt the most reliable small car currently on the market with NO REPORTED PROBLEMS TO DATE.
Dear unknown (19 Feb) You know nothing about the Ka. They do rust around the sills and mine has been treated for this. Its a well known problem. The plug problem is also well documented although lack of servicing contributes to this.

I cannot believe that your spark plug got corroded in the engine in this day an age. Surely Ford would not market a car with this type of problem. But as Ford rightly say the warranty has run out, you and others knew the KA had a 12 month warranty, so its no use complaining now. In my experiance Ford offer one of the very best after sales service. Instead of constant moaning, enjoy the car as Ford intended.

All this moaning about the KA is uncalled for, do people really believe that FORD would release a car to the buying public if it had design faults. And as for the rubbish that the spark plug got stuck in the engine, come off it. Their is nothing wrong with the KA's rust resistance record, i have never seen a rusty one. Prehaps if people enjoyed the car more instead of complaining over trivial issues, Ford might listen more. I certainly don't believe that Ford would have mucked up a service, as one of the owners suggested. That old chestnut, well it was fine before it was serviced just does'nt add up. I suspect that owners are missing one or two services and then when they have taken the car back to Ford for a service 30,000 miles too late, expect them to find nothing wrong or fix it for free. Ford look after their customers like no other car manufactuar, the record speaks for itself. I think it is jealosy over Ford's domination of the car market that idiots like these owners cannot handle. Ford have and always will be the best family car around you can buy. And finally if the spark plug did get stuck in your engine, Ford are perfectly within their right not to do anything about it, after all the CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY, which means that Ford are no longer responsible for it. Mind you it makes you wonder if the owner poured some kind of hard bonding substance down the plug holes to cause the problem in the hope of getting a new engine, unlucky.

I'm afraid the Ka's now getting a thumbs-down from me too. I used to sing its praises but I now discover that I am one of many who have had the spark plugs corroded into the engine - which is not a warranty issue on a car over 1 year old!!
What a stupid design!

I live in Sydney, Australia and bought a second hand Ka two years ago. Love the look and driveability of the car, but like other reviewers have had problems with CV joints, steering noises and over-revving. Ford supoposedly fixed the over-revving last year with some re-wiring but it has begun to happen again. This poor level of quality control is unacceptable really. Not surprisingly, Ford Australia have withdrawn the Ka from their fleet--pinning their hopes on the Fiesta which comes out here in April.

I picked up my SportKA (my 2nd KA) and within a week power steering fluid was leaking out all the time.
The dealer diagnosed it to need a new steering rack. It had done 700 miles by this point.
The factory alarm was not working either.
The dealer (Skipton Ford) repaired the car and reloaded the software and the alarm works fine now. All done under warranty.
I am still worried about the power steering pump making noise but it might just be me not being used to having it.
The SportKA isn't the fastest in the world nor is it very fuel efficient but it handles well and looks good.
Hopefully no more issues will arise.

I have had my Ka 3 from new in Jan 1999. It ran very well until I had it serviced at the ford dealership. there has been a knocking sound on accelerating ever since. Tappits? Even worse, after only 26,000 miles, it now uses 1 litre of oil every 400 miles. There is no obvious leak, nor is it puffing out black smoke. The engine just uses it. I am told it now needs a new engine. Has anyone else had this prolem or know what it is?
Disillusioned.

My Ka is just over a year old. 3 weeks ago it started stalling when coming to a stop. Ford garage said fuel management problem and replaced component. Three days ago battery light came on permanently although starting first time- garage said charging fine but would fit new alternator to solve problem. In meantime car has started stalling again when coming to a stop and has had to be towed in for repair.(it still starts perfectly) Is this a problem that Ford know about?
