I purchased a 1 Litre C reg Metro for £200 with tax and ticket just for a run about in 2002.
During ownership it never missed a beat, started 1st time and was very nippy!!In fact dare I say it,it was quite fun to drive!! My good lady loved it!!
During the time I owned it,it covered quite a few miles and long distances.I live near Stourbridge and travelled to Coventry,Leicester,Tywyn and Barnstaple!!
It was great fun down country lanes but a little bit "puffed out" on the motorway but would happily hold 65-70 mph but not much left in reserve!!
On the whole a great car only let down by it's fuel and oil consumption(only used cheap stuff)but considering it had done 118000 miles this could be forgiven!!
We were sad to see it go and the only reason we did was because the drivers seat broke and I couldn't be arsed to search the tat yards!!
My 1st car was a metro gta, and at first people took the p***. yeah that was until they got in it. the gta is a cracking little car, and if u drive it properly it can beat loads away from the lights. the little 4 speed box, gets you to 60 in no time at all, i am proud to say i have owned one. with a bit of refining, i can now get the pukka beast up 60mph in 7.1 secs, take that saxo vts. what more do you want!!!!!bring it on!!!!
Forget performance here it couldn't pull the skin of a rice pudding, but wait it's not supposed to! People are missing the point about this little car. It is a 'town car' and economy is it's primary objection and my word does it surpass on this . (At a steady 55mpn I'm getting around 50mpg out of my 1986 1.0L-Amazing for a relatively old and unrefined engine!)
I tell you what I no great fan of Metro's but I won't be knocking them in the future because of the simply reason they are cheap to insure, very cheap to run and disposable at the end of the day!
Remember at the end of the day it is not meant to have superior ride quality, motorway cruising ability, quite ride it's a cheap and cheerful Metro!!!
I own a Austin 998cc(L) F reg metro. It has less than 35000 on the clock, and has the odd bit of surface rust. The engine starts first time, everything is fine. I think its a wicked lil car, my mates however take the piss. I only want it to get me through a few years no claims insurance stuff, and it does its job superbly!

My first ever car was a D reg Metro. It was an absolute death trap! The rust on the wing was so bad I could actually get my head through it!! I know this because I tried! The steering column was so badly twisted you could turn a corner, let go of the steering wheel and the car would keep turning! The stereo was ok. Only problem was you couldnt hear it over the noise of the wheel bearings! I went to get two second hand tyres for it and the garage owner said, Yeah, that sounds like a fair swap.
Having said all that though it was fun to drive once Id got it started. You can throw it about and being front wheel drive its pretty predictable. I just wouldnt want to be in one in an accident.
Everybody in my family hate everything to do with Metros etc. I find this very annoying as I want a Metro as my first car. Why do so many people dis Metros and Maestros etc, when they are cheap, reliable, practical, easy to run and drive and versatile. They were better built than some BMWs I could mention.......

200 quid with 34000 miles on the clock.I could not ask for more.Used to have a 1400 fiesta with electronic gismoze that broke down every other week.Much happier with the old a-series in the metro.Goes faster downhill if you put it in neutral but i can live with that.Fold the back seat down and its a mobile skip and cheaper than renting one for a week.

Bought my C reg. 1.0 Metro for £200. I then took it all the way down to North Devon and back with no problems!! Also driven to West Wales,Leicester and Coventry.I live near Dudley and it's never missed a beat in this time.
The bodywork will go tatty if not looked after, but hey!! at least I don't worry about where I park it!!
I own a 1982 Metro, it is pile of S@#T, it never F#@*&*G starts when I need it to. I traded it for a Austin Allegro which in comparison was a F*&%~G Bentley. I will never drive the F@*^%G thing again, I am going to save my pennies and buy a 1985 Mini City.

The Metro we have is really outstanding, especially as the 998cc, 46bhp engine is concerned - it really does go (and I am not lying to you)! Ideally, it could be done with five gears rather than four, but, hey, you can't have everything! It's very reliable, the only problem being that the clutch cable snapped (and the boot has a little problem in closing) but that's it - it always starts first time, and is, overall, a very, very refined little motor.

I have reccently purchased an F reg 1.3 GTA Metro, in white with standard black Body Kit. Apart from the usual rust it is great. I have just had a part respray which has got rid of the rust. On the performance end of things I have got a sportex 3 branch manifold, linked up with a full stainless steel powerflow exhaust.
