I love my 1994 carlton 2.ogli more than my mrs as car is more reliable and doesnt moan and groan even when driving it hard. these cars are brilliant and in my time as an mot tester i only ever failed them on handbrake or tyres.
i prefer the auto box with sports mode to the manual gearbox and why have all the extras and have to change gear yourself. comments recomend a carlton to anyone looking for a comfortable reliable roomy car.

I have owned Carltons for many years all CDI. But owned a GSI 24v for about 10 months never had so much fun, then the timing chain jumped, all 24 valves bent three piston crowns cracked, quotes of nearly £2000+ to fix meant the car was heading for the scrap heap, moved heaven and earth to find replacement engine but no luck. While car was off the road rust had a good go at it in the normal places, red paint faded, in the end gave up looking and sold the car for £100. (removed wheels and Spoiler first)
With regards to Vauxhall Dealers I personally would never use one again, especially WHITMORE'S OF SEVENOAKS, in KENT, they are over-priced, under-skilled and in my opinion not fit to services cars.
I read Trevor's review and regarding the misfire I had the same, and would you believe it I was told the same thing by WHITMORE'S, "replace the leads" so I did, did it work, like ***k did it. Oh well mustn't go on, but sad to say I would buy one of these cars again but this time I wouldn't just buy it because it looked good in red. I learnt a lot in those 10 months and think now I could buy one that could last a year!

I owned a carlton gsi 12v for about 18 months with no real problems apart from the bodywork showing it's age. Then it started to burn oil quite badly so I decided to part-ex it for a 24v gsi...wow what a difference,a lot better on fuel and when the dual ram kicks in at about 4000revs it is almost like a turbo and I only paid £700 plus my car.Bargain

i have had my carlton 1.8 gls i for three years, i have had a new exhuast new wiper motor and a new expansion tank cap. I can honesty say that this car is outstanding i had some rust on the doors striped and resprayed, but the car has always started and never let me down. The car now has 188.177k miles and sounds quite, in fact is less noisy than my 306 r reg, this car used to belong to an old lady, since having it i have done it up a little, adding carlton 5 spoke alloys, it has six speakers and a cd player also, i would consider another one anyday, but this time prefably an atoumatic. The trim inside is totally not worn, remarkable i think

My 1988 Carlton CDXi 2 ltr is the best car I've ever owned in over 35 years of motoring. I bought it in 1995 from someone I already knew who'd had it from new and had taken great care of it. Replacement of parts have been due to what I would consider fair wear and tear. Even though the car is coming up to 14 years old it is still driving superbly with 162000 genuine miles on the clock. I'm hoping it will last a few more years yet as I will be very reluctant to part with it. Everyone who rides in it remarks how comfortable and roomy it is. It has a capacious boot, efficient suspension, a strong and extremely torquey engine which is happy at any speed from town crawling to motorway cruising at any speed up to 100mph. Sadly, these cars were discontinued in 1994,but I would certainly buy another one.
