I'm now on my third Cav and for all those that care I've never had any serious problems with any of them. The first cav I had was a 1988 LXi which I put 45k on, followed by a 1991 1.8GL which saw me through 75k and now a 1995 2.0 16V CDX which now has 71k on the clock and should see me through at least 3-4 years. The only things I have replaced on any of them have been tyres, cambelt, pads wipers, exhaust. Wear and tear items. Of course they are no sports car but for sensible cheap motoring you can't go wrong. As a side note I've just started running the CDX on Shell Optimax, I was a little dubious at first about the claims, but now after 2 tank fulls I'm getting better response and more MPG....

This is the best of all the cavalier's without a doubt is is the best looking of the three and is very reliable, it is also a very much underrated car a pleasure to drive, and is now very much a classic car.
The Mk1 Cavalier is the best one out of the three as it is the most attractive and is still loved by most classic car dealers.

Now on my second cav and never had a problem with any of them. The first a 1991 1.6L for 6 years doing 65,000 miles, never broke down or huge bills just general wear and tear. When sold it had done 195,000 miles.
My second one a 1992 1.6GL have had for a year clocking up 18,000 miles and again never broke down and no huge bills - just general wear and tear.
A reliable and cheap car. The best type of car I've owned.

I have a Cavalier Mk3 2L 8V SRI 1991. I am glad with it apart from the arches are a bit rusty. Its very quick with K&N filter, FSE power boost and full stainless system. BUT the only problem i have had is with the passenger window it just wont work tried most things. Any help wpuld be appriciated. Keep it Cav jonny
I've currently got a K reg Cavalier SRi. Its my 2nd Cav and I couldn't be happier as its very reliable, has been well looked after by previous owners and, aside from very high mileage (142,000) is in good shape. My 1st Cav was G reg 1.8L and that lasted me 3 years, in which I put 45,000 miles on it. If I get the same out of the SRi I'll be well happy as it only cost me 300 notes.

Cavalier 2.0GLS Automatic. 1995. Hatchback. Owned 5 months, bought for 1700quid. now 60k on clock. Really a Vectra in Cavalier's Clothing, not a Cavalier as we know it. 16valve Ecotec engine, slight vibration at low idle. Too much electrics and too many sensors. cannot even alter the idle revs. These were recalled for a problem with the cambelt idler and tensioner pulleys, about 3 years ago, causing cambelt failure. I contacted Vauxhall and eventually they admitted there had been a problem and mine should have been done. I could find no record of this in her service history, they said take it to local Vauxhall dealer, who without even moving the car, said it had been done and I found a small green spot of Hammeright Paint had been put on the Cambelt cover. I told them I wanted something from them to say it had been done. They said not needed as the spot of Hammeright would mean it had been done, to any dealer ? (in fairness, I was not charged by them, although it did take them 8 hours to check this) However, I was still getting funny noises from the cambelt cover. So I had a full cambelt kit fitted(Cambelt, idler and tensioner pullies, and water pump) this has stopped the noise. It was found that it was the water pump, making the noise. According to a main dealer who serviced it at 36k that pump was renewed then, and new pullies fitted, 22k ago?.(OH by the way the pullies were fine.) The bill for that service was 766 Quid yes £766. There have been many fabulous bills for her since, I hasten to add, not to me. What I like - Beautifull looking car really does turn in fabulous fuel economy for a 2L engine. Really large boot(Hatchback) easily accessed from inside car by pulldown slot in rear seat. Accelleration really good, at any speed, but Automatics are always a traffic light standing 1/4ers delight and this is no exception. Perhaps more would drive Automatics if this was more common knowledge. but that is another story) What I don't Like. Seems a bit tinny and delicate. Narrow gutted, not much room for 3(big) passengers in the back. Bit of wheel vibration at about 65 mph, but not balancing, may be due to the tyres having big treads. So I remain not sure as to what I make of it. Will report back in a year.

I have a 1989 1.6GL, I drive it very fast, at 80 I get wheel wobble, its got bald tyres which helps it go round corners very fast in the dry, but not in the wet. I have been pulled by the plod numerous times just so they can have a look at my superb GL.

I dont see why people have such a problem with these cars.
My 1993 1.8 Lsi Has never put a foot wrong in three years.
Its engine isnt amazing but pulls well. When driving one you just need to remember it is a family car not a coupe.
Theres tonnes of space, its well built and quiet at speed. Gear changes are very positive and it returns good fuel economy no matter how much you load it.
The only problem I have heard of is its heavy back end, some say it gets lively when you drive it hard in wet conditions.
