The GSi Turbo is a beast. It makes the SRi Turbo look like the cheap 'make do' model that it is.

5door unconfortable box. I'm a taxi driver so I can honestly say. the parts are cheap because they need changing like top up cards. I've had it for 1.5 years and all I do is service it. wind noise, handling. crap car. I only tolerate it cos it on LPG....next car it gonna be a japanese..

1.8 SRi. £300 for a car that flies to 100+ MPH with ease.
0-60 in 9 secs matches the More expensive Nova GTE. I blew away my mate's 1.4 16v Corsa SRi (with a Pipercross induction kit) in this car. Great value.

I have the 1.8 16v sport, the car has never let me down, the only thing i find annoying with the car is having to clean out the inlet manifold, if u have one you will notice that the car idles as though its going to stall and sometimes it does, this is due to carbon build up in the inlet manifold, clean it out yourself with some carb cleaner instead of paying over the odds at the dealer.
Its a great car has loads of gadgets, very responsive (fast) looks great.
Id recomend this car to anyone.

I have an mk2 vauxhall astra, has been the most reliable car i have owned, downside to the astra is the locks, very easy to break, so delock your astra! sounds great with a pico big bore 2 exhaust and k&n bolt on filter, echo tech cb-26p valve recommended aswell. Only problem i have had with it is it is having tempory misfire problems, which may be the carb is draing air or somfin. who said vauxhalls were rust buckets, if the car is looked after it shouldnt rust (which means washing your car regularly, expecially in winter, salt eats any car)
simply a liability in handling and reliability. my astra is a 92 j reg with 43,000 miles done and it is a nightmare, one thing after another with the problems.

I have recently sold my 1990 Vauxhall Astra Merit 1.4 estate. I have owned it for three years and covered 50 000 miles; it has now covered 140 000 miles and has never used oil.
I have moved house with it twice and pulled some considerable loads which it has easily coped with.
It has always been mechanically sound and relatively economical, despite having a four speed gearbox. The rear wheel arches have started to corrode, along with the bottom of the driver's door, which has to be allowed for with a car of this age.
A fifth gear would have been useful, although it cruises comfortably at 55-60 mph. The gearing is fairly high and it was, after all, designed primarily as a utility vehicle. After three years of cheap and reliable motoring, I have been sorry to see it go.

1.2 Astra, my first car, "Arnie". I'd buy it again if I found it for sale. DWD 273Y, if anybody out there has seen it... Lovingly waxed gloss red with perfect bodywork. 37 mpg, absolutely nothing went wrong over 2 years. The timing chain went at 75000 m, but I had plenty of warning (unlike modern retrograde cam belt "technology") Superb economy, lovely ride, well equipped. Perfect, unforgettable first car.

Vauxhall seem to have cracked the reliability problem. My astra estate starts from cold first time, every time. The handling is light and sweet and it's still got some oomph left in it when it's warmed up.

Just bought an Astra Merit (H-reg) as my first car. Great little motor in fantastic nick. I don't see what problems any of you could have with one. True its not fast but you don't buy an Astra to race & smash up!!! Thats what Escorts are for - everyone knows that.
