I have had my white Kreg Mk3, 1.4 Astra for under a week now. I paid £300 for it. It is my first car and i find it very good. Slight rust on bonnet, interior very clean and very fast. I am looking forward to the next 2-3 years with it. Richard Fluck...Southampton
I like the new gsi but decided not to wait and got the sri turbo instead. I like the fact that it is slightly different in styling and prefer the style of my alloys. It has the SAME spec as the gsi barring the tc button and the performance is about identical. Neither car is capable of the 150mph that Vauxhall claim. Not in a MILLION years !!! Mine has got the CS3 conversion from Courtenays and has 250hp and 285lbft of torque and is a genuine 150+mph car. Bear in mind the standard cars have a power to weight ratio similar to a gte 16v you WONT out run one !!!
Recently bought a 1.8 16v SRi on a 51 plate. Lovely car that's great fun to drive - after a 1.1 Fiesta it's nice to have something that goes when you the loud pedal. Lots of nice toys. Air Con is wonderful as is the speed sensitive power steering. CD player gets louder as you go faster and has major controls on the steering wheel.
Being a 'sporty' model the ride is a little bumpy but not as bad as I thought it might be. Fine on motorways but can be a bit harsh around town. Not been in the back (and so don't care) but have been told it's pretty awful.
Bad points: Rear visibility is pretty poor and the front screen pillars can also hide quite a lot.
Light switch - hidden to the right of the steering wheel on the dashboard. When will Vauxhall learn to put it on a column stalk like everybody else!
Horn - two tiny little buttons about half an inch square. Absolutely useless. By the time you've found one of them you will probably have hit whatever you wanted to hoot at.
Price of tyres - about £120 each.I could put all four on my old Cortina for less than that!
On the whole though, I love it. It's quick, fun, comfortable and looks the part without being too 'boy racer'.
JUST BOUGHT A ASTRA GSI ON A O3 PLATE WICKED CAR !! KNOCKS THE SOCKS OFF THE SRI TURBO IT LOOKS BETTER HANDLES BETTER WOTS THAT BLOKE ON A BOUT THE SRI HAS A TOP SPEED OF 157MPH IN HIS DREAMS THE GSI ONLY DOES 150 MPH AND THAT IS QUICK BELIVE ME !!!!!!!!!!!!
For starters the SRi Turbo has 187bhp, where as the GSi has 197bhp. 1-0 to the GSi... The SRi Turbo tends to wallow around some bends, where as the GSi is 20mm lower and gives much better handling. 2-0 to the GSi... And for the hat-trick, the appearance and specification levels of the GSi wipe the floor with the SRi Turbo. 3-0 to the GSi and game over! Wish you'd held out for a GSi? I think so!
Recently just bought a J reg 1.4 Vauxhall Astra CDi, and I love it to bits. It's perky on the road, handles ok, and can carry most things I throw at it. Would want another when the time comes to change cars. Fantastic little motor.
1.4 merit estate 1990. Bought for 900 in 1999 on 90,000. Since done 57000 more, and it still doesnt use any oil. Ive only replaced drive shaft gaiters and a radioator - brilliant car. Regularly carries full load. But now tatty and its got to go - shame.
Just purchased the limited edition Astra 2.0 SRI Turbo...and its absolutely incredible! has 200BHP at 5500RPM and top speed of 157 mph! Will beat any honda civic type R and most BMW's (with exception to M3). Its also nicer than the GSI model which has more emphasis on comfort rather than raw power that the SRI turbo has. However, one problem is the rear brakes tend to stick - a manufacturing problem easily solved by taking to any vauxhall garage and teyll amend it on warranty. Besides that its a true performance vehicle at half the price of everything else..and easily upgradable e.g. superchip and induction kit will bring it up to 250BHP at less than £400...get one of these vehicles theyre a phenomenal drive!!!!
Ive just bought the Astra SRI Turbo....its unbelievably powerful! 200 BHP and can reach 0-60mph in 6.5 secs (timed it yesterday with the cars own trip computer stop watch!! LOL)...beats any honda civic type R or bmw (except M3 of course!). If u get one though might be advisable to check brakes..has a manufacturing problem that needs alteration..and the seats are quite uncomfortable at times. Besides that its an incredible ride and a real sports car ..definately on par with a subaru impreza. Try superchiping the car..it really adds power and gets rid of the flat spots in the turbo charger...go and buy one of these vehicles..its FAST!!!
i own a 1.4 white astra m3. sound car's. not bad performance. kept up with my mates nova 1.4 sr. handling aint to good. apart from that there quality cars. dream car gsi 2.0 16v. smoke it!!
1991 Astra SXi 1800i, never let me down except when the battery died on me, Well what do you expect when it's still had the origenal vauxhall battery on till 6 months ago)
All its needed have been usual servicing stuff, brakes, oil change etc. Starts first time every time even with 3 inches of snow all over it.
Pulls well, and will see in 135MPH easily, might go further, never had the guts to try.
Change oil and filter every 6000 miles and your vauxhall will go on forever.
Ive got the Astra mark lV 2.2 16V SRI (2001 Edition) ...and yes its definately a big jump from my last car - the 1.6 petrol engine (CD version)! But the best thing about it is that u can easily and affordably make the Astra even faster! Placing an air filter induction kit, superchip and sports cam shafts can increase the SRI's HP from 138 to about 180-200HP...all of that cost less than £1000. Plus the standard SRI sports suspension, traction control, interior gadgets and sports seats are always useful! Plus over the net u can find cheap deals on interior changes as well. Its great!
My mate Phil in Scotland has the ultimate astra its the mean green whaletailed machine with a bad boy bonnet, thumbs up to u mate fae Johnny Speed in sunny Spain
wot a mad car!!! i had mine from 1990 until 1997 when i bought it it had 60k on the clock when i sold it it had done almost 132k and i know the bloke who bought it and its still going now!!! All i ever done was change the cam. after i bought a nissan well.......
Payed £75 for my 87 Astra 1.3L. I only wanted it to last a couple of months but it is so solid I decided to M.O.T it for another year - only needed rear brake shoes and carb adjusted. Very reliable and solid, engine done 140 000 miles but will still pull 110mph and still sounds tight. Bodywork is now immaculate after pop-rivetting a couple of rear wheel arches on, at £10 each. (Hint - countersink the pop-rivets, file flush and finish off with filler and paint for a good-looking and inexpensive finish). Overall, a good dependable car if nothing fantastic - they do what they were built to do. Oh, and these Astras need good plug leads with plenty of water-repellant - they don't like the wet. Finally a word of warning - these 80s' Vauxhalls are very nickable. Try a decent cut-out switch and maybe an alarm.
My '90 G 1.6 GL is pretty quick, v reliable and with some GTE add ons and lowered on a set of TSW alloys looks great and is an insurance friendly modded motor. Unfortunately it now has to go...
I own a '90 Astra GTE 16v, Aubergine (Maroon to you and me) !!!!! Has only done 42,000 miles, with a FVSH. Delocked otherwise totally standard, PAS, Electric windows, arial, mirrors, heated mirrors, Digital dash, Etc.. Immaculate inside and out. Alarmed and Immobilised, will put 12 months MOT on, never been raced or rallied, a fine example, for more Info, get in touch
