NOVA'S ARE PANT'S, BUT THE WORST PART IS THE DRIVERS-ANNOYING LITTLE F**CKERS WHO IRRITATE EVERYONE AND PUT UP OUR INSURANCE, ****NOTICE TO ALL NOVA BOYS*****GET A RENAULT 21 TURBO-£800 NOTES SHOULD GET YOU A 2 LITRE TURBO CHARGED TWIN INTERCOOLED LUMP AND A LEATHER INTERIOR!!!!! FORGET 1.3 OR 1.4 RUBBISH LADS-HERES WHERE A REAL MANLY MOTOR IS- FACE IT SR'S AND GTE'S ARE FOR YOUR SISTER OR YOUR MUM, YOU NEED SOMETHING THAT CAN HURT A SUBARU IF YOU GET IT JUST RIGHT AND EVEN SUPRISE PORSHES!!!-DONT BELIEVE ME???? TRY ONE!
Hi novas are slow unless a 2 litree 16v turbo engine is placed in them the quickest I have ever seen is a nova doing the quarter mile in 13.1 seconds. Dont beleive me go santa pod this weekend ultimate street car. LOOk out for the green nova!
Ive just changed my Astra GTE convertible for a 1.2 Nova L on an E plate it is in showroom condition and has just passed its MOT with no work needed. I have owned Nova SR's in the passed and when buying the 1200 I was not going to buy myself another abused shed. All I wanted to say (to all the ford boys out there) is don't slate nova's untill you have driven mine mate. Lets face it its never going to be a quick car it's only got 54 BHP for god sake but its standard, looks and drives like new and the insurance is 800 quid cheaper than the GTE. Im laughing!!!
I hate nova's small cheap and tinny. I got a 1.1 fiesta Mk2 and it's keeps it's self up the ass end of even 1.3sr's! 1.0's can forget it! I've even left my m8s 1.4 corsa at lights!
Never actually owned one.. but my mate did. he had the 1.2 flight (or something that rhymes with flight) :-) variety... thought it was the bees knees. yet my 957 mk2 fiesta could nail it on country roads. might be down to driver or handling more than raw power.. but still you have to laugh when people are saying they are getting 130 out of their sh*twagons :-) passed this "you are driving at" where the sign has a radar thingee on it by my speedo i was doing 40.. it said "you are driving at 36mph" are people allowing for wear on the speedo ?
i think the novas are great cars for the young generation, they are cheap to run and cheap to insure what else could you want unless you have rich parents or great job you just cant afford a xr3i and that so a nova is just great. and to all the people out there who think there xr2is are the best my 50 year old dad has a 1.6 zetec si injection and leaves all you at the line
superb screw-a-bility, execellent handling, and optimum posing. Easy to kit, very cheap parts available everwhere, and, posing score of 10 out of 10. All this for a small price, you can't get a better boy racer!
ive just turned 15 and have been given my first nova for free off a lady my mate knew. the car is a 1.2 rust bucket, nothing some p38 wont solve ;). ive got big plans for this car, hears a list of things done: body work= 2 nearly new wings from scrap yard- £10, 40cm high boot spoiler custom made at school, strobe lights, 2 12" subs, 10 disk cd changer, sony stereo, 4 point harnesses, twin 3" exausts, k'n'N induction, webbers, kent cams, 5 speed g/b, custom interior and dash, cobra racing seats, evo style bonnet vent, h4 blue bulbs and last but not least the night rider light!!;0
Novas are great little cars, reliable and fuel efficient, I have owned one for 5 years as well as my real car (xr2i). All the little biy racers out there who think they can beat anything in there 1.2`s, all I can say is, yeah sure. Also to the "mechanic" down below somewhere, I have serious doubts about you, if you are really a mechanic cant you think of anything technical to say?? If your thinking about buying a nova then do it, but only if you dont expect good performance, the looks are great (GSI only here!!) and fuel efficency is good (1.2 here!!). If you want a fast car then buy one, think about it, a 1.2, fast, I dont think so....... If your after a quick car, get an xr2i, buy a superchip, cam, induction kit and exhaust and you`ll be laughing ( you GSI owners at the back, try getting any decent power increased out of yours, it aint gunna happen!) 1 thing I can say is dont buy a 1.8 16v xr2i as they have lower BHP and also cost a shed load more for bits. If you biy racers must have a nova, then get yourself a GSI, cuz its the only nova worth respecting.
Nova's rule, get it right, what ya wanna do is go out everyother night down the high street and race the other boy racers. i own a 1.2 nova, gte bodywork, phat exhaust, k&n air filter, alloy wheels and other boy racer features.. I LOVE IT !.. novas are reall good cars.. any loser that comes to challage me.. ill smoke em and leave them in the dust :P
ive just bought a j reg nova 1.0 and fitted a new webber, it does around 105 mph on the flat and kicks all little fiestas and crap 205s. my nova must be the quickest in shropshire!!!!!!!!1
the nova is an awsome car, the only problem is the fact you get classed as a "boy racer", i do have a sporty exhaust, alloy wheels, and an air filter, but i do my modifications very suttley, i hate body kits, i do all the work on my engine myself, such as:- Balanced bottom end, lightened flywheel, big valves, big race cam, home made twin side exit exhaust, liquid crystal display dash, and an F20 gearbox, but i still get called a boy racer, i don't drive fast, i just like to know that my car has the capabillity to destroy all !!
I'd just like to say that XR2i are the crap of the crap , i would rather drive a nissan micra than an xr2 i took several xr2's out for a test drive and most won't spin from first to second..... a big pile of compleet W*NK if you ask me! Pulling away is a bout as slow as you could get and breaking? theres no hope!
Big tip to any1 out there DONT BUY AN XR2, but if you are unfortinate think about an engine transplant! but not from a ford! unless a saphire Cossie?
Sorry, but all Vauxhalls are crap (except perhaps the wide grille Senator and VX220). They are unreliable, rust, depreciate badly, poorly designed and built, ugly, dull, my mum wouldn't buy one. The only redeeming feature is the parts are cheap and quite plentiful and thats good because you'll need them. I agree with the earlier contributor who slagged off hotted up Nova's. I mean, who are they trying to kid? If you want a fast car buy a proper sports car and DONT tart up your useless Vauxhall, Ford, Nissan Sunny, Reliant Robin with alloys and naff paint and expect to look cool. You wont. And dont wear your cap on in the car (backwards or forwards) that looks crap too. You'll agree with me once you turn 20 and your spots start to go.
I happened to come across this site and couldn't help but place this comment: Vauxhall Novas are generally a good cheap hatch for mainly the younger generation, and you can do a lot to them coz there are so many around.BUT! And its a big but, they rust, look crap and are quite honestly not as fast as all the people's comments here make out at all!!! I have been in loads, and driven them a few times. They feel unsafe, poorly built and are slow - all thats good is they they don't go wrong much. All I can say to the prick who thinks his nova sr can beat an xr2i, is that you are dreaming - unless you have done some engine mods that you have not listed. And no i don't drive an xr2i, i drive a faster/better car than that. As for the person who reckons a nova sounds like a "TVR" on start up....you need help, unless you have a TVR engine and zorst its not going to sound like a TVR really is it!? Also why do people try and make them sound sooo so fast, when they are not - "yeah man, my nova's only a 1.2 but it will beat a golf gti and that off the lights.." and "my sr actually will beat most 2ltr saloons top end, and its standard..." BULL! ABSOLUTE BULL! Fair enuff if you have a nicely modded nova that looks nice and goes some, but lets not pretend the standard shopping trolleys are damned sports car beaters...please?!
11 years old, 90,000 miles and almost all original. Engine oil never needs topping up, gearbox as sweet as ever, clutch still original. Alternator failed at 50,000 but just tyres, dampers and brake pads have needed replacement.
I HAVE A RED NOVA 1.4SRI,56,000 MILES. IT HAS KONI SHOCKS WITH 70MM LOWERING SPRING WITH STANDARD 14INCH ALLOYS, IT HANDLES FANTASTIC BUT IS VERY HARSH ON THE RIDE. IT ALSO HAS A K&N INDUCTION KIT, MAGNEX ZORST, ECOTEK VALVE AND POWER BOOST VALVE,WITH THE POWER BOOST VALVE ON FULL BOOST IT NUDGES 130MPH,GENUINE, NO LIE. BUT IT EATS FUEL SO HAVE IT ON LOW.GOOD CAR FOR MY FIRST BEAST. NOVA BOY
I own a 1.4SR and basically you can buy a better first car. It cost me £1500 and is J reg. Broke down the first day i bought it due to water in the distributer cap. 2 min job and a bit of wd40 fixed that. Not 2 bad on fuel although the gauge is basically guess work im sure. the first half of the tank costs £10 to fill the rest about £20. weird. all i can say about the performance is kiss my ass mr XR2I who though he would wipe the floor with me. how his smile faded when he failed to keep up. shame such a shame.
I've owned 2 Nova's. The first was a mistake, a 1.3L 5 Door. It was crap. 3 cylinder heads, a water pump, 4 distributors, coils the lot. And then i jacked it up and the jack went through the floor!! Glad to say, i crashed it.. the hedge jumped out in front of me and I had no where to go! Now, I have just bought a Nova 1.4 SR on a H plate with 41,500 genuine miles in metalic blue for £1400.. Its mint... bought it off a reliable seller... Goes like stink and costs 10p per mile in petrol! (thats giving it a quick blast but mainly cruising at 60mph).
Good car for the age of the design. Still love modded Mk1 Astra GTE's Though...
