i have owed 6 novas and never had one break down on me and i have had them all 1,1.2,1.3,1.4,1.5td,1.6mpi i still own my 1.6 injection and the car is rapid i have have 1/2mm taken off the head and now it flys i can get from 0-60 in 8 seconds no xrshitty2 can even come close i even had a old h reg golf gti struggling the other day but its not always the car it helps if your a driver as well, no can tell me novas are shit yeah the rust is a problem but if you didnt know that then u must be thick i am now looking at buying a 1.6 turbo keep an eye out for it a pvs 2003
Just bought a Nova 1.2 merit for my girlfriend, biggest heap going. Took me all weekend to get it up to scratch and i still have more to do. Some aspects are very badly thought out for example the wiring. The engines not bad however, quite lively but other than that i dont rate it much we both wish she had gone for the blue oval equivalent as they are far more reliable, step father has vowed never to go back to vauxhall after a string of troublesome cavaliers and carltons yet has had no trouble with his high mileage Mondeo.
my nova is a 2.0 litre 16v turbo, and it'll kiss away an impreza any day. everyfin has bin done 2 it, k&n filter janspeed back box and abyss bodykit, sprayed in a mental flip paint. interior is the badgers nadgers. my car kicks ass
I Used to have a 1.4 (sri i think) I was a fairly nice car, with a loud exhaust a performance air filter and a few other bits and bobs that the owner put on. The only thing with the old Novas is when you tell people that u have a nova they look down there nose at you. Novas are 'boyracer cars'. I managed to get a good price for it from nova nutz in wales, got a VW Polo 1.3 G40 (Absolutly fantastic car, alot quicker than any nova ive ever driven) Novas are cool
ive got a 1993 1.2i nova.not the fastest but it has no rust, immaculate interior and genuine 31k, only cost £700,insurance is £350 fully comp.now ive modded it 1k stereo system inlcuding 2 12s 3 amps 6x9s components and head unit, full cat 1 alarm, clear lights all round, alloys, performance exhaust, interior mods, lowered 60mm and smooth boot, its the bollox, 1.6gsi going in next week with piper cams, uprated driveshafts, pipercross viper ind kit, the lot, can't beat a modded nova even ten years after its death!!!check out the link, great parts, great service, DA BOMB
bought my nova three years ago, nothing but trouble, doesnt like the cold/wet/ice, and its very rare that the weather isnt one of these. Its faled its mot on rust, needs welding in more places than i though that could exist. Got a Ford Escort now, much better all round. quicker to boot to although thats not difficult
to the guy who said the only nova he'd get is a Chevy. Well said but most of the boy racer fools probably don't even know what they look like. Why do Max Power feature nova's so frequently when v8 powered beasts are clearly a thousand times better
i think that novas are fair nice actually they look nice and you can get loadz of parts for them to make em look nicer but the thing that lets em down is that all the little "boyracers" drive em n dont have a clue, i wouldnt have one but i like em!! from r4ch
I love Novas, but im also a fan of Festas and even Metros (6R4 anyone?). They are all cult cars nowadays not only cos they're cheap, but cos they weight feck all and have a character that is totally lacking in todays house sized "hothatches". I have respect for pretty much anything that someone has put some effort into modding. So lets all join together instead of arguing and help preserve these, one day, classic cars. AstraSxi
Going to santa pod you realise how few of your normal "boy racer" cars you see there. Thats because they just wont cut it on the track, stickers wont help there. A normal Nova 1.4SR I've heard will give you a 1/4 mile time of 21seconds (considering I've seen Nova GSi's stripped and modded get 18.44 I would think this entirely possible, seeing as an SR is 30bhp down on power) compare that 21 seconds to a 1.1 metro's time of 19.4 seconds, now you realise why they dont show up.
Now I'm still driving a metro, so I can assume the usual sniggers and such when I'm parked up. But that turns to a questioning second glance from people after you've just laid a few sub 18 second time down (or in the case of a 1.8 sub 16 seconds).
thankgod someone has finally put a fantastic point into this debate, thankyou to dunk who i totally agree with, (cos he praised metro's!) but seriously it had got to a daft point, so cheers for summarising it!!!
You people are all missing the point. You can't 'review' a non standard car.
OK, a Nova with a Rover V6 is going to be f*ckin quick but what about a mini with a Honda V-Tec (yes, they do sell a complete kit to do this relatively easily). It just gets silly! Also the Nova is going to handle like a pig due to the silly weight distribution.
As for Nova's being the slowest, they certainly are not. A vauxhall engine of equal size to a ford engine is quicker off the mark. Thats a fact. As for Metros, these always were very quick escpecially 1.3. Don't ask me why - they just are! If you think I'm full of sh*t then thats your right.. but I have driven all these cars (and many more) and have an unbiased opinion.
As for the drivers, well thats a different matter! Most of these small cars are driven by boyracers... because thats all they can afford thanks to the Insurance fat-cats.
I'm now driving a Fiesta 1.6s, it produces 90bhp and is totally standard. It's 1 second slower to 60mph than an XR2i but is only 1/4 of the insurace... so who's laughing now.
what he saying about nova's being quick compared to others. they are the slowest in their class. they're vauxhalls, no more needs to be said!, check out parkers.co.uk, and do your research, check out Rover first, especially the metro's / 100's they kill nova's, trust me, i've got one!
I bought a J reg Nova Trip (1.0) a few months ago and it was playing up something silly. It's sorted out know and is running so smooth it is also great on petrol for a bum student like me! The colour is crap though a dull burgandy.
Whatever.... Anyone who says that their car is fast should go to a track day and put down some sprint times. At least there people will bother to push their cars, unlike on the roads. Once you have ACCURATE times and speeds then you can go bragging.
get a life i have a Rover 100 aka metro! its a 1.1kseries (which is so under estimated its great)and destroys any nova that comes near it, even has killed xr2i's b4 now. WAKE UP, everyones laughing at you not with u.
