l've been offered a 405 sti 93 model (2000cc) with full main dealer service history, the car is immaculate, the only doubt l have in buying the car is that it has covered 125000 miles, any advice would be appreciated.

For the last 3 years l've owned a 94 stdt 405, the car is probably the most comfortable car l've driven. Mechanically the car has been a problem, head gasket having to be repaced twice, this is not a cheap repair. Other than that only routine service parts being replaced. Would l buy another? yes.

I have a 95 mod peugeot 405 GTX (with the 2l 8v engine)
I have only had it for about 4 months and the only things i have changed is parts i knew i have to change when i bought it. the previous owner followed all the peugeot serivice mantaiance( sorry about my Enlgish), an have had no big problems, have only changed parts like brakeshoes and discs sparkplugs and other parts like that. Its been driven 145000Km.I think i soon will need to change the shockabsorbers and i am going to go for a harder absorbers. French cars can be a litte bit to soft for me

Currently own a 93 Mi16 phase 2 after a phase 1 GRI and 88 Mi16 4X4. Car is wicked on fast bendy roads and can eat golf gti's, ST24's GSI's etc once off the mark. Mi's are known to be quick but suttle also, that why i like em. So don't spoil it by adding 17's big exhausts etc. Join a Club and avoid ones with electrical fault history.

I bought my 405 Mi16 in Oct. '2001 for just over 1600 quid. Bargain for a k-reg (not sure if milage true though). Had peugeot dealer fit a new clutch, coils and cam belt changed plus other small things which came to over a grand - BUT I HAVE NO REGRETS. The Mig. is gorgeous and sexy; something special. Forget Mondeo ST24. Vetra 2.5 V6 - PAH!!

The last few years, I've been the proud owner of a H reg 405 GLD Estate - cost 600 pounds. My own personal experience has been very good. I would give it 10 out of 10 for reliability (it's never let me down yet). Yes, there can be a few things that need replacing - but doesn't any car have this problem? For comfort, I'd give it 6 out of 10. The space in the boot is excellent. Very soon I'm going to be getting a 406 TD (a good bargin that I can't afford to miss), but my husband has already ear-marked my 405 for him! PS You will notice that taxis use the 405 model alot - basically because they are damn reliable!!!

I have owned a 1.6 GR, a 1.8 GR auto and presently own a 1.9 SRi. Although I had some reliablity problems with the 1.6, it lasted until 140 000 miles which does not seem too bad to me. The SRi is a flying machine which also has cheap insurance.
