I've bought my varadero in October last year, after blowing up my previous scooter. What a blessing is disguise - never regretted the day. Other than my key freezing in the lock on the chilly scottish mornings, and a juddering front brake I have had no problems. It's and excellent learner legal bike with a huge amount of street cred - get the occasional nods of approval from the BIG bikes. Any suggestions about fitting a Scottoiler.

Bought my Varadero a month ago from a local Honda dealer and got an excellent deal onn a bike less than 12 months old. Up until now I've commuted to work on a scooter, but now wish I had bought this bike ages ago! I love it. It's comfortable, economical, has great road presence and good deal more respect than a scooter. Everyone who see the bike for the first time thinks it's a 600 and that there must be an instructor lurking around somewhere to allow me to ride it with L-plates! Now, all I need to do is sell the scooter...any offers?

Bought my dero a month ago,my first foray into biking at 33!! excellent for a 125,everyone thought it was a 600,until they saw the `l` plate!still getting used to it,starts first time, run all day at 60mph,flat out at 75.Took a while to get used to the stopping power of the brakes.. after being used to a car for so long,(all back brake)!! ooops! but now getting the hang of it much better.filled the tank up,zeroed the trip 229 miles later visiting the petrol station again, superb!Excellent bike all round...go buy one...now!

see previous report here:
Well here is an update. Bike still going strong very reliable and here are a few things extra to think about. Change the oil every 800 miles it is an eater as the oil comes out like coffee due to design error all varaderos will have a emulsion in the sump. Shell advance 10/40 is great oil, you need it with the water/vapour getting in. It is only £10 for the oil and £4.50 for the filter and takes 10 mins. The chain is hard to adjust as the left adjuster seems to be hard to get right. Im getting 70 mpg and a max out at 72mph on the motorway. But sometimes redlines at 77 in a slipstream. There has gotta be a limiter in the exhaust, but then you gotta disable the limiter, how? Also the front brake is so crap due to flexy brake hose GET SOME BRAIDED HOSES. I gave it 3/5 cos its too dear but saying that it is a proper bike in every sense and you dont feel silly. OK it aint an R1 but do you need one? It will do all you want in comfort, it handles, it goes 70mph and 70mpg and carries luggage and my insurance is £80 Cheap as bloody chips!!! Go get one!

i bought my varadero september 2002. but i haven't driven it for months because i live in Norway (really chilly). i bought this bike because i fell in love with it about a year ago, and it didn't disapoint me one bit. the only problem, was getting one i had too look for months before i found it. slightly driven in an with all honda's extras. but in Norway everything is expensive so i had to pay 50,000 kr or 7200$. another sad thing is that i'm 15 years old, and i can't take my license before i am 16.
PERFECT BIKE!!!!!!

Bought the varadero in april last year and so far i have covered 12500 miles. The bikes been faultless except for the rear break line rubing on the swing arm and the nuts around the lower exhaust heat shield have rusted away.In this time the bike has gone throught 1 set of rubber,1 chain and a set of break pads front and rear.I was going to part x it for a ducati but i think i will keep it for another year

Got mine second hand but only 2000 on the clock.First the problems, mayonnaise in the sump, just cannot keep the water out of the oil, and no the head has not gone and the filler cap has been renewed. Why did honda not give the poor thing any grunt at the top end just a whiff of a hill and its 50mph max. No fuel guage but thats not really a prob it does 240 miles on a tank and I rev the arse out of mine. Very comfortable and the only 125 you can take two on. Great lights and good sitting position. Have had 75 mph on a down slope and it seems to like it!!!! Put battlax bt45 on my bike and the handling now is fantastic. Tip use shell optimax it seems to make it a bit more torquey and the pick up is a little stronger. A great bike but pricey.

I bought mine fifteen months ago and have done aaout 7000 miles on jt. So far apart from some starting problems when the front HT lead gets wet it has been faultless. It fits me perfectly (I/m 6' 1"). Definitely the ultimate 4 stroke 125

have it for almost a month, altho with my license i can get a bike that under 200cc but this bike with its look and its size really attracted me, its really comfortable, and easy to handle,
so even if you throw your clutch it wont fly!, and the acceleration is ok..
rev the trottle at first gear, go to second and rev till it rpm goes to 10 and it can really go far.. unexpectable pickup..

the engine sound is great!!.. but uphills are strictly 2nd gear and below.. and with pillian its strictly 1st gear if its a steep slope .. and the 15 hp is also a letdown..
but over all its a beauty.. good parts, good seat, good engine, great milage, great tyres!

After now having the Vara for 6 months, and covering 1,500 miles, I can say its only getting better and better. If you know how to keep the revs up she will do you proud for a 125.
Going to keep the 125 for commuting to work and going for the new Varadero 03 Model for taking trips abroad.

Having had a TZR125 over a decade ago, it was time for me to get back on two wheels. Never took my test back then, (big mistake), but wanted another 125 for travelling to work. Very surprised to see such a big 125 was in the showroom ( it certainly looks bigger than a 125), and I think Honda have come up trumps on this bike.
Big enough to have good road presence, excellent on reliability, and you feel good on it !!
Not so hot on busy long stretches of road, and you can find the revs dropping when going up the hills.
But, you can not have a big V-Twin 125 bike with TZR speed. The handling is superb, the engine does deliver excellent response with its meaty 4-stroke sound.
If you are a learner biker wishing to feel safe, look good, and you afford the pricey tag, then go for the Varadero.

easily the best 125 on the market, i had the supposed dream 125 before the varadero, a cagiva mito which wasn't fit to oil the honda's chain! somebody else commutes on my route on a dero too and its nice to hear that it doesn't sound like a 125 either! never ever given me a moments grief. i love it when people say "cant believe you've put L plates on that"!

Excellent bike! Have had mine for about 6 months and ride 250 miles a week on it. LOVE IT! Got pulled by the police for riding a large bike with "L" plates - boy was he embarressed when he checked and found it was a legit 125! Get nods of approval from bigger bikes - nice feeling - go get one - NOW!
