MY 2000 MAX IS FUN AND WICKEDLY FAST...BUT MY 87 KAWASAKI ELIMINATOR HAS TURNED TIMES JUST AS QUICK. AND MY VMAX 0-60 IS 1/2 SEC. SLOWER. VMAX HAS MUCH MORE TORQUE ON THE HILLS!
This bike isn't for racing sports bikes round the twisties, it will stay with the average ones but if you meet something nasty half way round you ain't gonna avoid it too easily like a light bike could. That said, Mines a 1987 Max and my 2000 VFR has been stuck in the garage ever since I bought the V-Max. Cars move out of the way in the same way that synchronised swimmers dive into a pool, watch lesser bikes dissapear in your mirrors. Boat loads of custom extras are available and some great handling enhancements (if you can't handle anything other than a sports bike). It weaves it's way round 120 sweeping bends, but doesn't fall over
Only the Vmax will get long stares at the light...its presence alone will defy any challengers. Only recently have we seen other manufacturers risking like Vmax designs. Yamaha was inspired back in 1984, they did it with the Vmax and still today the Vmax remains ahead ot its time. Heart stopper straight line acceleration, the Vmax will give you the biggest tears of joy.
Two of my co-riders just bought it last month and gosh, we test drive it for 580kms. to the nothern part of our country in the philippines and it's really amazing, The power is more than you'll need . I definitely would buy one of the last two Max for sale here in our town.
Have had many bikes, but nothing compares to the sound, power and presence of a VMAX. Better cornering clearance and handling than other crusers, especially with Furber fix. Awesome motor, just installed T-Boost to stretch your arms at 3000 instead of 6000 rpm. I have a 97 and the prime spot in my garage will always go to a VMAX.
HAD A VMX FOR 6 MONTHS NOW .I CAME FROM 250 TWO STROKES,ENGINE GREAT,THE FRONT END IS A BIT WOBLEY,RIDING BIKES FOR 22 YEARS Z 650,GS 550,750, NSR 250, YPVS,TDR 250.350,250 LC.ECT ECT,GOING TO FIX THE FRONT END IN THE WINTER MONTHS, ROLL ON 2003 WITH BETTER HANDLING.ALL THE BEST KEEP ON MAXING......
For all you SuperSport riders ready to quite using public roadways like race tracks, graduate to the 100% fully abundant V4 power of Mr.Max. Truley an amazing bike! Of course it has issues just like any other bike, but one thing to keep in mind, you own a piece of history that has the longest competitive run of any motorcycle ever produced. Experiancing one will give you memories for life.
Having just come from an R6 to the Vmax, have to agree with everything said about handling and braking, but, I'd rather spend money changing the wheels and uprating the suspension and brakes than go back to a sportsbike. The vmax is pure character. PS what mods to fir GSX wheels, and who does them.
Great looks, great performance (in a straight line!) Not for the racers!

Have a much modded 97 Canadian import & love it to pieces. Check out http://www.vmaxchat.co.uk (especially the forums) for lots of info.
With 17" wheels (T/Cat front & Exactrep rear) frame bars, R1 brakes, YZF M/Cs, Drag Bars, 7" headlight, Stage 7 kit & the big bore my baby flies. Yes it might be abit heavy but junk the centrestand and add a 4:1 race system (I have a kerker) and you're looking at around 135RWHP and you'll have lost around 45lb of useless weight too.
Progressive springs up front and 2" shorter works progressive rears help as does dropping the yokes by 1.5". The rearsets add to the whole experience too... Can outdrag an R1 in a straight line & keep up with most of them in twisties too if you're commited!
I use to own a 85' max and just purchased a new 2004. Wow,I forgot how much fun this bike was until I spent about 30sec. on it again! Awesome!!!!

Having only ridden pillion on a vmax twice, I can honestly say it is the most exciting thing I have ever done. Had a really big cheesy grin on my face for days and days. Can't wait to actually ride one myself!!

A legend! The only bike that I never crashed because it inspires you fear and that's a London courier saying! No cornering, no brakes, rips side stands, exhaust, etc at Hyde Park Corner Grand Prix, but straight line... nothing will come close! When driving my BMW K1100 RS I get bullied to get out of the way, but on the max at traffic lights, respect! Not even brainless kids in scooters dare to go first.Long live the max!

Huge powerplant even more power and torgue. But the suspension's crap.so i changed to paioli fully adjustable upsidedownies and ohlins rear shocks.after little tweaks the handling became good enough not to be scared of bumpy back roads.also beringer si x-potters.and cobra fully-illegal exhaust :))) etc. etc. outdraged the hayabusa on half mile runway. street light runs are my forte always.now maybe a bigger bore and chain rear drive conversion
