i bought an 84 mk1 ghia 1.6 bout 4 years ago with a webber carb already on it, and 121000 miles. to my suprise, she flies along and have had a rather proud 115 mph out of it at 4grand on the rev counter in 5'th gear ( on a track of course!) i like the smooth styling of it, and with a few little add-ons here and there, i.e an sapphire style boot spoiler and a standard ford rs kit it looks great. the road handling is great, although the turning circle isn't great, the rest of the drive totally makes up for it. lovely car.
I bought a F reg 1.6i ghia for £400 in june 2003 imaculate in and out every mot since new with all service manuals and i love it. The previous owner had a RS rear spoiler put on it and fitted low profile Fox alloys. It is a real head turner then some B****** tried to nick it and damaged all the passenger side lock and because they struggled to get in they bent the door back and ruined that it will take some effort to get it back to norm but i'll do it. It done just over 105k and is by far the most exiting car ive driven.
Back in 1991 I bought a three year old Orion 1.6GL and ran it for 9 years and over 100,000 miles. It was an excellent car. Drove well, could hold its own with most other vehicles of its class and was easy to work on. Parts were plentiful and relatively cheap because of commonality with the Escort range. Main bugbears were mainly electrical. It didn't like wet conditions and I never went anywhere without a can of damp-start during the winter months. The other major point was to keep a close eye on the condition of the cambelt, and change it without fail every 35-40,000 miles. If you didn't then you were asking for trouble.
All in it was probably the best car I ever owned. I eventually sold it to a local kid who wrote it off within a week. A sad passing!

I bought my J-reg Ford orion 1.6i glx efi for £75, But it broke down on the first day due to starting problems. After that, Got a new battery alloys, etc, was working fine for 2 months, but now its down the road, had to walk home from a work colleagues leaving party last night cos It wouldnt start, and now dads gone to tow it home!...apart from that, its like a bullet from a gun, fast and perky for its size and generally a good car. worth the money if its reliable and has a clean engine with decent parts :)

on my second orion, first was a 1.4lx,in gold, got it for 200 quid, first week i had it,drove it over 2k miles, all over cornmall, speat lots of money on wheels and so on,and sum bugger nicked it and burnt it out!second orion, witch i still own has been a angel, kitted up,suspension kit, recaros, very tidy, fast good handling car 1.6I ghia, only probly is rust, the silent killer!tho my suffers from only minor bits!vist the site: http://www.sorted-orions.co.uk cheers Carl
A mint c reg mk 1 was a trade in to my work which was a ford dealer in 1994, so without haste I binned the rotten sierra and got orion for £600, it was tight as a drum and had no rust at all except for a hole in the front panel which was caused by a brick or something similar, the front panel was duly replaced by the bodyshop & to this day it is still in the family with over 100,000 and a 1.4 cvh engine as the previous engine rings went due to lack of oil & changing it. Abit tatty now but still solid and with what I think may be the original alternator which at 125,000 mls is quite good going, hopefully I can get it back as my own and give it a major overhaul in the future.
Bought a J reg 1.6LX last year. Cost £400. Met silver, 120k, still got it now, no major problems, couple tiny things like backbox and windscreen but only cost £20 and £35 to replace. Great car for little money, alright to drive, looks smart, reliable, nippy, cant go wrong for a few hundred quid, cheap motoring, electric in most models so good luxury features for money. Love 'em!
Used to own a 1.6 GL 1985, very good car, although the weak for vv carb had to be replaced with a weber, but this improved the drive no end. Excellent preportions and looked more stylish than the escort. Drove exceptionally well for its age only downside was that the tyres had to be replaced a bit too often for my liking. AN EXCELLENT CAR
I've had a ford orion 1.6i ghia for a few months now, and I must say that it IS the BEST car that I have ever had. I only bought it for £225. She's never broke down, and is very reliable. GREAT CAR-I can't emphasise the words strongly enough. Mark email: [Log in to view email]
I love my car to bits and am in the middle of a complete restoration.I bought my baby 6 years ago for ?250.00.Its an old mk 1,1983 build 1600 gl.The only breakdown i have had was a flat tyre and although i have now fitted a much cleaner later weber cvh engine, the old one was still going strong after 161000 miles.Although i respect my old girl she was capable of some staggering performance and most boy racers couldnt believe she was bog standard.Give her a kick and she`ll pull 50 in 1st and be doing 90 by third.Simply the best car i have ever owned, and yet the cheapest and most reliable. She has served me well and i am now returning the favour.I have a way to go but she is looking delicious.
