I am 65 years old , so have owned many sports cars over the years. Everything from an E type to a Lotus Escat. But none compare to an FTO for handling and sheer fun. I have owned my GX for two years and I still get a buzz when I get into it. Insurance can be high if you are young or a risk. I pay less then £300 full comp. That is a good deal. Buy one and join the owners club, they can help you with everything and well worth the £12 a year. It was Autotraders secondhand car of the year last year I and I can understand why. A lot of car for the money. Come on Mitsubishi, make them again.
reliability, looks and fun

Reviewing a 1997 model.
GX 180 bhp V6 5 speed tiptronic
Owned for 2 years.
WOW what else can a girl say! The FTO is an amazing car, i own two at the moment but i have to part with one so its for sale on here at £3995. Never did i dream i could have a real head turner of a car and also be able to out perform many! Bye Bye Boy racers in this motor. Nicola x
Excellent car! never broken down on me. bought as 24k on the clock 3rd owner in uk and on over 60k now.
Cambelt the only major expense circa 70 quid for one, labour on cars circa 25 quid an hour. A lot easier to look after than UK cars!!
Mechanics and specialists aplenty (espescially in the midlands!!) Parts easily available from Mitsi or specialists, about 5/10 quid more expensive than your mondeos equivalent parts on avg.
Fuel is the worst aspect, car loves to drink! then again maybe its because of my right foot! kinda love the 8000 RPM range!.. oh and those day light robbers called Insurance companies... sigh.. :(
Its a FTO not a gold plated rolls royce!! avg 6k car and insurance circa 1-2k.. so check insurance before you check the car! things to watch for. Tiptronic models, 4speed gears prone to problems - circa 1k to replace with manual.. Manuals the best!
Car must be undersealed! Jap cars need this in our nasty weather.
Look at the FTO owners web pages for more info! have fun!
Has anyone else driven one of these? Absolutely fantastic! This has to be one of the best handling cars in its class. The engine is not bad either. V6 2.0 litre variable valve timing good for c. 200BHP and red-lining at aroung 8000 rpm. The GP version R is something else again with scoops and fins and splitters, nice 7 spokes and fully loaded with CD, NavSat, climate control blah, blah. The only thing it doesn't do is drive itself which would be pointless as you would miss out on the thrill of a lifetime. Get one now!!!
