What can You say about these cars. Well I have owned all the popular makes available, and not one compaires to my 420 Turbo diesel. I bought this car 2 years ago it was the cheapest car on autotrader at 480 pounds, I have spent around 400 pounds on belt tensioner brakes tyers, and mot which it failed on faultyheadlight easy fix. Parts are very cheap and abundant. To date Ive covered 38000 miles around town motorways which it chews up surprising every car on the road. Insurance is cheap and I can squeeze over 70 miles to 5 pounds of diesel around town . Bad points drivers door window the motor breaks easily. And the dreaded immobiliser problem if you buy one its soooooo important to get the key security code, without this your buggered. You can then overide the thing when needed permently.I did this to mine then disconnected the wires inside the drivers door and passenger door. Ok it disables central locking and alarm so its back to opening and closing the old fashioned way, but you get used to it. Better than spending a hundred pounds getting it recoded. So for a couple of hundred pounds you cannnot go wrong, this car it will serve you well.Oh yes mine has 168000 miles on the clock and no service in over 100000 miles I just do jobs as needed, its oil has not been done since then either lol Cheap cheap cheap A wolf in lambs clothing
When i bought my 420 GSI it had done 100,000 miles and it felt like a new car! There was none of the annoying noises n problems ive had with other cars with that kind of mileage. The driving experience is superb with the Rover. It just feels as solid as the day it was made. Plus the performance is more than impressive. top marks!!
my rover 420 gsi r reg bought from main dealer apr '03, nothing but problems, avoid at all costs, its been back to the garage so many times.gear boxes probs, clutch probs, cat and exhaust went soon after i got it lots of other niggles and now the thing leaks coolant and oil,
I owned a S reg 2.0TD (non intercooled mechanically injected model) for 3months. It had done 104k when I bought it & 128k when I sold it & still felt like a new car. I was so impressed I bought an X reg 45 2.0TDiXL. This is considerably quicker especially after I had the engine management remapped. In fact the combination of comfort, performance, economy (53mpg), relaxing effortless crusing, interior ambience, build quality and sheer driving enjoyment is not mtached by anything for the money (£6500). When it reaches 100k miles next year I'll be buying another 2yr old one.
I have a 420 SDLi and I love it. I can see it doing 170,000 miles no prob. Servicing is expensive as it is a diesel bu tworth it. It saves me 1/3 in fuel compared to petrol and much more power over 20mph. Very luxurious. Brand new it was £19,000 (wouldn't pay that myself), bu tI bought it at 32,000 and 18 months old for £7,500, bargain. I do do about 14-18000 miles a year but regular servicing especially oil changes more often than recommmended will ensure long life. No problems
Excellent car I wish to keep until it doesn't want to live anymore. 3 probs, crunch selecting reverse, pinks when hot & wheel tacking can't seem to get it right.
Like the general look of the car, what a Rover should look like. Comfortable well equiped interior, the fake wood does it for me! Can't say I really dilike anything about the car. Compared to other makes owned it scores very well indeed. It only had one problem with the aircon but Rover repaired this outwith the warranty period! Car cost £12000 then only a few months later prices fell to below £1000! Oh well thats life!
95 M BRG 2litre GSi Turbo. I love everything about this car. It is comfortable, luxurious and very very quick 200BHP and 0-60 in 6.4!!! all that and with affordable running costs including insurance. The best car I have owned by far.
Great luxuriuos car in the top spec as mine GSi. 2.0 Twin Cam dissapointing after owning the 1.6 honda unit previously which was superb. Builds good but visability could be better, particularly the wide door pillars. great cruiser.
Dec97.R Nightfire Red. Super value for money, full leather, cruise control, e-windows, etc, etc. Two probs to report with my car, 1.Clutch - U get a crunch selecting reverse. 2.Engine pinks in hot weather. Nice car I have decided to keep it and run it until it dies, that will be a sad day!
