I bought a Nissan Primera Sport + on the internet last year. It is the best car buy I have ever made in 40 years of motoring and that includes various sports models and executive hatchbacks and saloons - and more recently a Mercedes! It was cheap - and I know now I could have done even better - on a 'W' plate and with 70,000 on the clock. It's quick, sporty and hugs the road - a real drivers' car. It has a very full spec including it's 2 litre power plant that responds really well to being pushed and gives a firm but potent ride. Teenagers love this car because they get so much for their money. For the older guy it's a nippy and very economical choice that will stretch some of the lighter weight sports saloons including BMW! Servicing at around 100 GBP for a middle level is fine by me. Parts are readily available and economical too. Since owning this car I have put the Merc on the market and I am quids in! Well worth a look if your after a pleasant surprise! People avoid second hand Nissans because they are popular as taxis! The Sport + is no taxi!
Nippy, good looks (matter of taste but could be mistaken for a BM at a distance!
lots of them around mean that careful choice is worth it
I have just bought a N reg Nissan primera and have noticed a problem with the internal heater blower it only works on level 4 level 1-3 donot operate any one any ideas on how to Fix
I cannot fault our Primera zx e at all. we have had no cause for concern. Even when we have towed there has been no problem. Very reliable. It holds the road very well, so ensures a great drive.
I've had an '02 1.8se for about three months now - so far, so good. It's the third Primera I've owned in the last 8 years (with a couple of other types in between), and none of them have given me any reliability problems at all - a definite plus point. I've noticed a few people complain about the N-Form console, but I can't really say I find it difficult or annoying to use. Best thing is to spend ten minutes playing with it when you first get the car - the confusion soon clears. Haven't really noticed any problem with the turning circle either - it's a big car, and you can't see where your nose is; perhaps people are simply finding it a bit awkward.
The interior is comfortable and well equipped, the car drives beautifully and engagingly. For the money, it's hard to beat.
It's a 2002 Primera 1.8s, a company car I've had it since new. It's now done 23000 miles, nothing has gone wrong with it,and it was deliverd new without any faults. I did complain about the poor fit of one of the rears doors, and that was sorted on the first 10000 miles service.
It's a big car, and it's too big for the job I do, and would not have been my choice. It's not easy to park in and around London as you just can't see where the back of it is when reversing. Some models have a reversing camera, they all need it! Matters are not helped by the fact that the turning circle is poor.
The controls for heating and confusing, in fact after a year I'm still not sure how it all works!
All that said it has been reliable, and the fuel economy exceptional given the size of the car.
If you need a large 5 seater, and with the prices for these now they must be a goood buy.
I have recently (Sept. 2003) bought a new Primera 1.8 SVE. The paintwork was faulty and the car requires a re-spray of both the drivers side doors.
There are a number of faults with the heating/ventilating system which appear to be on all the new Primera cars. These are listed below.
Even if these functions were to be common to all the new Primera cars, this would not detract from the fact that they are illogical, misleading, require the driver to press additional buttons and are, therefore, confusing and distracting to the driver during the driving process. Furthermore, these operations do not correspond with what is described in the Owners Manual.
1. When the engine is switched on, neither of the Air Circulation mode lamps are switched on and both lamps remain off.
2. When the Air Recirculation Switch is pressed the Air Conditioning is switched on.
3. Whenever the heating Auto mode button is pressed, both the Air Recirculation and the Outside Air mode lamps are switched off.
4. When the Defogger button is pressed the Air Conditioning and the Outside Air modes are selected, as they should be. When the Defogger button is pressed again, the Air Recirculation mode is selected and the Air Conditioning remains on.
5.When the Defogger button is pressed the Air Conditioning and he Outside Air modes are selected, as they should be. When Auto is then selected, the Air Conditioning remains on, and both the Air Recirculation and the Outside Air lamps are switched off and remain off.
6. In Manual Heating mode, when the Mode switch is used to select the airflow onto the foot outlets and the windscreen, the Air Conditioning mode is selected and the Air Conditioning lamp switches on.
There also is a fault with the High Integration Phone System, a system which Nissan Technical denies exists as a current product! This does not show the phone address book as advertised in the brochures and the "Owner's Manual"
I should be pleased to hear from anyone who has experienced similar problems.
i posted a review in 2002 for this car since then the mot has expired so i took it onto a hot hatch day in the rain in november and despite baldish tyres the car done a lot better than expected and handled really well and was not put to shame despite more powerfull opposition(would love to try a gt model)was only a 2.0 slx but handling was better than my xr3 and more fun,buy a mot failure and just go out there and floor it best fun ive had in years and not expensive(days racing £50).
Ive have owned three Nissan Primeras since 1993, buying brand new models model each time. They are brilliant for reliability and maintenance costs. My current one is a T-spec with CVT gear box. Packed with gadgets for half the price of a BMW or Benz. I've done 43,000 miles in 18 months. I have had one of two nigglers such as the cruise control failing at 2 months. Replaced promptly with no problem since. The N console joystick became insentive to pressure while sat-nav map setting. Again resolved promptly. I'm already thinking of its successor. i.e. model upgrade.
I OWN A NISSAN PRIMERA 2003. AT ONLY 6000 Klm, I HAVE NOTICE SEVERAL NOISES FPOM THE WINDOWS MOSTLY ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE CAR. IN BAD ROADS THE FRONT WINDOWS ARE MAKING NOISES AT EVERY BUMB.
I own a black 1998 Primera GT which I bought as an ex-demo car. I absolutely love it! Not much to look at I admit, but it truely is one of the best cars I've driven. Only faults in 5 years - Wiper motor linkage broke (in fast lane of motorway!), & Air Con just stopped working (probably needs re-gassing). I get an average of 40mpg (trip computer reports 42mpg) & that's not hanging about either! Only now just considering replacing it, & that is for a TVR Cerbera! In fact I even keep it for when the TVR breaks down as it probably will... If you're looking for a 2nd hand car & not too fussed about looks, then give the Primera GT a try - you won't be disappointed. PS. Did I mention it's pretty damn quick, too?!
I own a Primera SI (Hatchback)on a T plate bought the car as a family vechile. Always loved Nissan cars i know people say they are bland and boring to look at but i would rather a reliable car than a flash motor that needs loads of TLC throughout its life. My engine is only a 1.6 fuel injected 16v and the speed from 0-60MPH is very slow but, once you get on the motorway it cruises... The Boot is massive with plenty of room for the kids in the back. Has the sports trim with electrics and Air Con nothing too exciting. But then if you want something a little more fancy then you should go for the SLX. I read loads of info on this car before purchasing it and most of the feedback i got was positive. Four people within my family own a nissan and none have suffered any problems to prove it my dad has an old Nissan Sunny 1.3DX (C reg) it has never broken down and every year it's services it never needs a drop of oil or water.. he was the person who talked me into getting one. I have only owned the car for under a year and i'm still not bored with it, the comfort on long journeys is great and the handling is brilliant sticks to all corners wet or dry. I would recommend buying privately with a RAC or AA check with full service History. I looked at six primeras at three different Nissan Garages and they were all scratched and well over priced. The is a Primera in Kent where i live exactly the same as mine with 42k on the clock for £5,395(without warranty & extras).. i bought privatey off an old boy with a full Nissan Service history from main dealership and only 32k on the clock for £4,000. The car had mudflaps, boot lining and car mats. Not one of the six primeras i looked at from the garages had all this included within price. Don't worry about the warranty most of the time major things aren't covered any way!
I OWN A PRIMERA 2LTR TURBO DIESEL("W" REG 2000 MODEL) --I HAVE NEVER HAD SUCH A BAD EXPERIENCE AS IN LACK OF BOTTOM END POWER AS THIS CAR. THERE REALLY IS MORE BOTTOM END POWER IN DEL BOYS ROBIN RELIANT.I RECENTLY WENT ON HOLIDAY AND TOWED MY TOURING CARAVAN(LIGHT WEIGHT). I HAD TO STOP ON A GRADIENT FOR TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND WHEN I LET MY CLUTCH UP THE CAR DIDNT MOVE.AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS A RECOVERY FIRM WAS CALLED TO TOW ME TO THE TOP OF THE HILL!!! I APPROACHED NISSAN WHO STATED "AH! THATS YOUR CLUTCH" GREAT HAD A NEW CLUTCH --STILL THE SAME,NEW DIESEL FILTER-STILL THE SAME. IN THE END THE NISSAN TECHNICIAN TOOK IT FOR A TEST DRIVE AND SAID OH YES THERE SEEMS THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS THEN PLACED ON A DIAOGNOSTIC MACHINE(£30)WHICH STATED NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. MY TURBO DOESNT KICK IN TILL 2,500 TO 3,000 RPM AND THEREFORE UNTIL THEN YOU ARE WILLING OR SHOULD I SAY PRAYING THE CAR WILL PICK UP REVS. THIS CAR IS POORLY MANUFACTURED AND THE AFTERSALES HAVE GOT A LOT TO BE DESIRED. OH! BY THE WAY IF YOU DO PURCHASE A NISSAN UNDER 3YRS OLD AND UNDER 60,000 MILES YOU HAVE A WARRANTY!!! GREAT I HERE YOU SAY,,AH BUT MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ALL NISSAN PARTS I.E DIESEL FILTER,OIL FILTER ETC..AS I HAD TO FOOT THE BILL. COME ON NISSAN SORT IT OUT IF YOU WANT TO CONTINUE SELLING TO US WE WANT A RELIABLE CAR THAT WILL DO WHAT ANY NORMAL CAR WILL DO.--NOT RECOMMENDED BY ME -GET A VOLVO,,IM GOING TO!!!!
Only problem being the electric windows. One has dropped and is held in place by a lump of wood inside door. Another I dare not open more than half an inch. Replacement cost for regulator is expensive. Any know of any cheap replacement part garages?
IVE OWNED TWO OF THESE BOTH 2.0 AND A MUCH UNDERRATED DRIVERS CAR WUTH GOOD SIZE BOOT, SPACIOUS, REALLY RELIABLE, BIT DEAR FOR PARTS BUT MOST JAPS THE SAME, A BIT THIRSTY BUT GOOD TURN OF SPEED FOR STANDARD CAR, PLAIN LOOKING BUT IF RELIABILITY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN STYLE GREAT BIG CAR,WATCH OUT FOR BRAKEPIPE CORROSION AS THIS IS APPARENTLY A BITCH OF A JOB TO REPLACE THE PIPEWORK ACCORDING TO MY LOCAL GARAGE, WOULD BUY ANOTHER ANYDAY OF THE WEEK WOULD EVENTUALLY LIKE A GT AS THESE ARE ABOUT 150bhp AND WOULD MAKE A GREAT FAMILY CAR WITH A GOOD DOSE OF POWER.
I work for a car dealer delivering cars. I once had to Deliver a Primera GT and i'll never forget it!!!! WHAT A CAR. Performance was fantastic!! ride was very nice, smooth, quiet. Although i've always thought of them as bland i tend to like them now and they aint all that bland! I'd have one!
Mine is a 1995 1.6LX Hatchback. I am a 38 year old family man. I have read alot of comments about the Primera having a bland appearance, although there are more attractive cars of this age around there are also some very ugly ones too! I think the styling on mine (with standard flared front and rear bumpers) is on a par with your Toyota Carinas and Ford Mondeos (OK the Mondeo does look a tad more modern). The main reasons for me buying was it's reputation for reliablity and its size (it has an enormous boot). Overall I have been extremely pleased with the car, it's performance I would say is above average for the size of car to c.c ratio and of coarse you benifit from the cheaper running costs. The only problems I have had in the 2.5 years of ownership is 2 sticking electric windows, which might sound expensive to repair but are reasonable cheap and easy, and a slight leak from the sunroof, which was cured by some sealing compound. I would recommend this car highly if you are looking for a reliable, economical family car which although it doesn't burn rubber it also wont leave you last at the lights.
Good trouble free motoring. I was able to do 47000 in 2.5 years with no problems.Economical and safe to drive. Its bland looks prevented a quick sale when I decided to buy a sports car on retirement. However Nissans like Honda and Toyota make cars to drive in all weathers and their reliability make them all good buys. My Primera 1.6 cost £11000 with 5 miles on the clock being a show room model and sold for £5000 being 3 years old.
I too had a problem with the exhaust gas regulator but that was when the car had done 112000 miles. I had no other problems with the car. I did find the 1993 model was quite a heavy car for a 1600 engine but the newer models seem to be shorter and so I presume lighter. I recently changed my 1993 model for a 1998 2.0 TD and have found the newer car is easier to drive but still has to be tested with a heavy load.
