ST24 Saloon in Radiant Red. Fast car but takes a little time to "wind up" with the tall gears. Once she's up to 4500 rpm then its warp speed from there on!
MUST Buy one with the RSAP kit otherwise its just another mundano.
Mechanical Parts V cheap but V6 engine bits are above average price. Also RSAP bumpers/trim very expensive to replace.
Bought the car with 60000 miles on the clock. Changed water pump for a metal one for reliability and front pulley for mk3 mondeo due to extra vibration dampening. One problem with wrong front wheel alignment that ate both tyres but other than that no problems what so ever!
Do not buy one where you think its overheated in the past! as gasket replacement is very very expensive. (that did deserve two verys)
Engine a bit thirsty, and insurance is 2 groups behind an Scooby.
Overall what other performance car can fit 5 people, your dog and is capable of 140mph?
hi i've owned a st24 for two years now, brought with 50000 on and now at 82000 miles it has been faultless as a family car, the kids have never got to school so quick before. I think the st is totaly underated as a performance car, people don't seem to be able to get pass the mondeo / ford badge ,the car will be sought after soon when drivers realise they are paying 5 times as much for cars with equal performance. my girlfriend also likes leaving people at the lights when their sreaming the revs out of their motor trying to leave her standing, then they realise their just a distant shadow in the mirrow the st has every thing you need from a car but with great power, ill be keeping mine for sometime yet. vj.vinne
Hi there!! I have just bought a Mk2 Mondeo 2.0l Ghia X. I have given up my Ford Probe and gone for practicality and comfort. I must say that it's the most comfortable and well equipped car I have ever had - leather heated seats, electric everything etc. all for £1650 (1998 R reg), what a bargain. It would be a definite recommendation from me, mind you £18,000 depreciation in 6 years isn't very good to whoever bought it new!!
I have had all three models of the Mondeo and it is a fantastic vehicle, all of them have been the 1800 engine, and none of them broke down, excellent economy, ride, handling the hatchback is the perfect car for the family man with loads of boot space i have the basic model the LX it has one shot electric windows all round, a/c,cd,remote locking, air bags all over the place,i would recommend the Mondeo to anyone, its by far a lot better than that new plasticy Boxall Vectra

excellent car ..ford and haynes state 15w/30 oil.....be warned all you mondey owners they are wrong its 5w/30 the oil they recomend makes your engine sound like a singer sewing machine also leads to cold start problems also can cause valve problems use duckhams the oil is green not gold irecently found out all this after alot of expense damn u haynes and ford you never see these people apologise
Have a 1997 Mk2 1800 LX. Can not fault it. It's got 150,000 on the clock and there is tons of life in it yet - only problem is it's needing work done on the steering, and the auxillary drive belt tensioners are needing replaced. Work is more than the cars worth, so going to look for a newer ST24.
If your thinking of buying a mondeo, go for the 2000cc engine - the 1800 is reliable and gutsy, but can be noisy.
With regards to the dash/rear light fault, it's due to the multiplug on the back of light switch. Some of the wires are needing re-crimped. Pop off that section of the dash (there are no screws) and do the necessary. Easy (when you know how)
Just purchased a Mondeo Zetec s TDCI 130BHP and I love it, very fast compared to my 1.8 si Escort anyway, am getting 500 - 700 miles to a tank depending on driving motorway or local. Only problem are the 18" alloys so tyres are going to be expensive. Will be getting it chipped to 152BHP next few months lets hope that dose not break it.
Mondeo 2.0 TDDi May2001. Now done 90000 miles with regular dealer servicing. Took it in for 90k service last week and they changed the fuel filter.. big mistake. They cannot start the car now, there is no bleed system and a 3rd party diesel specialist suggests that the common rail, being de-pressurised as a result of the service has highlighted a fault with the high pressure fuel pump. Looking on the web there are suggestions that ULSD (ultra low sulphur diesel) is low on lubricant additives (ref Bosch memo) and I deduce this may have caused premature pump wear. New pump? £1000. Car is great but you buy a diesel so it can go round the clock at least twice....
I own an Mondeo 1800cc LX(1993). I have been having problems when slowing down the engine loses revs and cuts out.Just wandering if anybody else has had the same problem. If so would you beable to let me know. [Log in to view email]
Mondeo Saloon ST24 fantastic car.Great performance very reliable and it looks great with the rsa body kit.mine is a 1999 model, green, half leather, full body kit and original wheels.this car sticks to the road better than any hot hatch. Its never let me down in the two years i've owned it.Only had one problem. The idle speed control valve became faulty which made the air in the intake chambers make a humming sound.Renewing the idle speed valve cured the problem.I will not be parting with this car for some time.Best car i have owned.
I own a 1994 v6 mk1 mondeo, brought it 5 years ago its been a great car. It's covered about 110,000 miles and the only thing thats failed is the speedo and water pump. My missus stuffed it in a wall and broke the radiator, she then drove it and cooked the engine. It was one ball ache of a job to replace the head gaskets, both heads required skimming. But since the re build its never been the same again, uses more oil and has lost some of its "smoothness". Its used for school runs and so fuel is used at a rate of about 18 mpg. I really have enjoyed the car but at £50 a week going to esso its time for a diesel.
I have had the 2.5 24valve mondeo for 3 years,it has been a good car up until recently. The problem i have that the engine over revs quite bad and i cannot get the car to start first time(Never)always 2 time it goes no problem,if anybody has got any views on this matter please send me an e;mail. There is one word that desribes my 1993 ford mondeo td lx. ERROR!. i bought it at 86,000 miles and scrapped it at 100,000 miles.
this car was a nightmare from beginning to end. 3 months after buying it the cam belt snapped, snapping my cam bar into 3 pieces, damaging all of my valves and valve guides, plus more damage to the tune of £837!
then a month after that due to a tiny crack in the rocker cover gasket seal that leaked a tiny trickle of oil in the alternator, it took 3 days and finally a professional to sort out. more fun. plus 3 new rocker gaskets to resolve the snail trail of oil.
add to this new fuel lines and brake line underneath the car and the front wishbones for the MOT. another £200 plus.
finally got rid of it because the cam belt snapped again only 10,000 miles after the last one.
Went and scrapped it and bought a 1993 toyota carina E XLi for £1,300
I have just purchased a 1996 mondeo 2.0 ghia, if anyone has any information on the problems i'm likely to encounter could they please e-mail me @ [Log in to view email]
I have just bought a 1998 mondeo 18td chia x, with 13800 on the clock probly paid to much for it as it was from a garage, but I got to the piont were I had to get some thing as my old car H reg rover 214sli needed more money spending on it than it was worth.
I keep on reading that you should use a diffent oil to the one in the book, so if some one can tell me witch is the best one to get for this car, and also anything else that I should look out for or know about it I would very greatfull.
So far the car seans fine, very comfortble and cheap to insure "group 9" in fact only £58 more than my rover, its good to look at inside and out, and has got a good pick up when the terbo kicks in although its a bit flat before, something to get used to, my pertner tells me that she likes it so much that she is going to learn to drive ARRRRRRRRRRrrrh you should see her pushing a pram!
Look forward to hereing from, well anyone realy with any hints and tips.
Being a Ford man, I thought I'd but a second hand 1994 Mondeo 1.8LX Zetec. Lovely car, great to drive, but just one major fault. The stupid Bosch immobiliser with the keyfob remote. A major fault that Ford do not want anything to do with since the first problems, is the immobiliser unit failing. Too much current going throught it. Drys out some of the solder joints, which either dont let you start the car at all, or it keeps the fuel pump immobilised, and will not run for more than a few seconds. Overall a good car though.
