I've driven these things for 35 years and obviosuly have used the trade for servicing. If you keep onj top of them, then they are fine. just watch the rust!! anyone owning and old FX4 would do well to join the London Vintage Taxi Association http://www.lvta.co.uk We have many members who own these vehicles and have operated them as licensed cabs. their experience is invaluable. We have a fantastic new magazine too!
Ive just got a fx4 e reg.My son loves it its noisy, slow, but it turns great. It is a hell of a lot safer than my citroen c15 van that i was using for work prior to the cab.I am using it for work (window cleaning). It atracts attention and im hoping that will be good for business.Tescos do insurance for them i paid £486.00 tft without no claims bonus age 38.Ive fitted new deadlocks as the standard were shanked. Servicing seems to be straightforward and the electrics seem simple.(any one know how to operate the rear door electric locking system?)I also get a green light with a key symbol flashing up on the dash.
I OWN AN E REG FX4S WHICH IS QUITE A FANTASTIC LITTLE MOTOR! THERE ARE SEVERAL DEALERS ON THE INTERNET SUCH AS LONDONTAXIXEPORTS AND RAY'S TAXIS. IF YOU WANT MORE INFORMATION TRY THE NOT4HIRE WEBSITE, THE LONDON TAXI CAB CLUB (A YAHOO CLUB) OR THE AUSTIN TAXI CLUB.
A FEW OF US ARE ATTEMPTING TO SET UP SOME INFORMAL LINKS AS OWNERS OR PROSPECTIVE OWNERS. IF I CAN HELP PLEASE CONTACT ME AT [Log in to view email]
I'd love to own a black taxi and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions as to any dealers/websites to look at. Also does anyone have a rough estimate on what insurance may be? if anyone has any ideas or stroies on their cabs please e-mail me at [Log in to view email]
I used to own an FX4 and it was great! I would like to get hold of a LHD version, but don,t know which countries(nearby) that had them,or even if they were built. Anyone know?
Bought an old M Reg FX4 cab to tour round Europe in when I was a student. Plenty of room for five students and all their luggage for three months. Great fun, and certainly turned some heads. We drove into Spa the evening before the Belgium Grand Prix, and were greeted with cheers and applause from all the Brits out drinking in the streets! Performance is not great - those old ones will only do about 50 - 55 miles per hour. However, they are spectacularly reliable. Most of the bits are old Austin truck parts. They are built to do thousands of miles in service. Parts and service is no problem, particularly if you live close to London (or I expect any other UK city), and bits tend to be pretty cheap. Would suggest it would be a great alternative to one of these space cruiser things for a large family.
