Sorry this is a lone bike whilst by GSX 750 is being repaired, it misses gears, it will not pull in from 30 in anything lower than 3rd and drinks like a fish. Hurry back GSX I miss you. Very good brakes, I tried very hard even in the wet (standing on the pedal) from 40 but could not get the back to lock.
Have a 2000 VFR 800, I Luvs it. Comfortable, Looks good, economical, Does nothing fantastic but does everything well, Quality-style-ect. What more do you want.
The Honda VFR Vtec is one of the most accomplished motorcycles I have ever ridden. Comfortable; fast; economical; reliable; well built and a hoot to ride. I think that this VFR incarnation is undoubtedly the best yet. I would rate the VFR Vtec as a better all round motorcycle than the excellent and almost flawless Honda Blackbird.
The Vtec VFR has not captured the imagination in the way that previous models have - this is a shame because it is a far superior motorcycle in every way. Many VFR 750 and non-Vtec 800 owners are irrationally prejudiced against this cutting edge piece of engineering excellance. I suggest that the doubters overcome their irrational fears and take the leap into Vtec nirvana.
The VTR Firestorm was a very underrated motorcycle in its heyday; but it could never match the VFR Vtec in any real world motorcycling way. The VFR Vtec is the best all round motorcycle in the world...Honda engineering at its best... inspired by the demiurge and by the Logos incarnate, the VFR Vtec is quite simply the form or ideal made manifest in a world where there are many pretenders but only one truly existing 'motorcycle'.
I paid £5500 for this piece of aesthetic genius...so to those who are frightened to sample the ultimate reality, get real and go and make the purchase of your life - you will not regret it.
Got my VFR 800 anniversary. last August, it had just under 5000 miles on it in the red and silver colours, I love the bike and ride it most days even in the heavy rain, The weather protection is great It has the taller screen, The wife is comfy on the back and gets worried when I put the seat cowling on at a week end. Not really given it any stick yet waiting for a nice bit of dry weather.
Sounds great at a pull away or at 148 miles an hour, great!! and without a problem.
I have had my VFR-800 for 5.5 years since new and have found it absolutely brilliant in every area. Improvements to the bike is firmer spring, Bridgestone 010 tyres and 2 extra teeth on the rear sprocket for improved acceleration. Great on the track which makes it the best all rounder with the V4 note and gear drives that makes it unique as well as the single sided swingarm.
Good all round bike, but my one has got this uneven feel through the engin when doing 4000/5000 Revs, gives me pins & needles after a while in traffic.
Silver vtec Had this one,for one month, from new. Done one track day all ready, fitted 4-can lazer deep tone race can, sounds brillant, looks s bit like MV Augsta.Had a 99 VFR before fitted with a race-can,did not sound this good.Ground clearants is better but the exhaust pipe on the right side touching down, with the hero blobs removed.going to try a K&N air filter,to see if it will help the Vtec flat spots, before buying a power comander. Also have Honda hard luggage fitted,I think it a bit to wide,it about 4"each side wider than the mirrors, it hard to tell in traffic if you will fit in that gap or not,at 500 pounds you donot whant to scrach them.If any one whants to see some pic etc,Email me at [Log in to view email] Gavin
Love it to bits - smile hasn't left my face since I bought it. Wheelies in any gear, will do anything, surprises the sports bikes riders quite often! All this and I can still ride all day without getting a sore arse.
Great bike but I`ve tinkered, Blue flame end can, highly illegal but great noise. Double bubble screen, K & N filter, Power commander and dyno set up now showing (on PDQ`s dyno) 120 BHP. It`s the dog danglies and no mistake. Surprised quite a few at last years TT with its drive out of bends in any gear, seems to have the edge on my mates 955i sprint. I love it, de-linked brakes next. Bought new last April and covered 7000mls.Loving every minute of it.Was a toss up up between New V tec model or new 2001 model.Opted for 2001 one, glad I did after seeing MCN this week.£500 for a 16000 ml service. Eeeeeeeeek !! Margaret Smith
Had my red f1-w model for about 3 months now,my first "big bike" since returning to biking after a 15 year gap.(used a 600 diversion for 18months just to get some no calims under my belt.)
Love the comfort, performance, and quality, but not over impressed with the economy. still, worth it i suppose just to listen to the motor when pulling hardish, especially when exiting bends...
I too have the clicking noise from the tank area, and my local dealer looked into it under the 3 month warranty period for me.
Turns out it's a solenoid in the airbox that regulates air/fuel mix for emmissions regulations.
The noise can be minimised by bending the bracket that holds a flap operated by the solenoid...
had a bump on my motoguzzi cali ...so was given a 2yo vfr800 by insurance ..had it now for 6weeks ..and ive got my bike back..so vfr is going back to ins company ...im absolutely gutted...its ben the most fun ive had for ages ...superb acceleration ...engine sound...speed ..being long in the leg a bit of a crouch ,but so what..blew away a audi tt going 130mph down my local 3mile straight dual carriageway....yes i know its not clever ,or being grown up ,but im only 44yo and still a kid!...bye bye motoguzzi...ride safely
Just bought an Fiy with 52,000 miles on it. Looks and rides like a new bike. Unbelievable. Love the air temp. guage -fantastic for keeping track of potential icy conditions in this winter misery. Spun the rear in fourth gear last night at about 70mph! Good torque! A great bike, but needs that V4 sound released with a loud pipe. Any good road legal ones out there?
I've just returned to biking after a break of 7 years. I wanted a bike that was comfortable (I'm 6'4"), reliable and sporty but didn't want to be ripped off with insurance.
My last bike was a ZZR600, a great bike but now looks dated and for me could have been a bit comfier.
My dream bike was the Triumph Daytona 955i but the insurance was ridiculous, the Sprint a great bike but not sure about the looks so I settled on the VFR800.
Ive had it since October 2002 and in a short time I have managed to put on a few miles and to date Im very pleased with the bike.
First comfort. For me its just the job, I have long legs and the position of the footpegs is well suited to me. I also have long arms. Im able to duck down well over the tank when enjoying myself but can also sit up in a more traditional upright manner as well. Wind protection from the fairing is excellent but I am thinking of having a double bubble screen fitted as with been tall the aerodynamics of the standard screen buffets me around a bit.
Engine. Keep the revs up and its brilliant, unfortunately it does splutter a bit when in top gear doing low speeds ands its best to stay in 5th when around town doing 30mph or less.
Handling. Im not a knee down go for it rider but Ive been very pleased with how the bike stays on the line Ive set. I didnt know my wife was on the back when we went to the NEC bike show and Im looking forward to getting the camping gear on the back and going touring.
Dual Breaking System. I read a lot about the breaks in various bike mags' and was worried they would catch me out. No problem, for me they are fine and could and probably will help to get me out of trouble in the future if I find myself into a bend too quick.
Running Costs. True costs yet to be discovered but are there any cheep to run bikes any more?
So Im looking forward to the summer, dry roads and getting out there.
Any1 who has purchased the new VTEC should check for rust on front fairing carrier and subframe,Mine was new in august2002, 4.5k miles and rust developing,Otherwise a great bike. Waiting for Hondas response on the [Log in to view email]
"The only queery i've got if anyone can help, is that I sometimes get an irratic clicking noise from somewhere around the tank area. " - Try checking the tension of your chain, when it's a bit loose it knocks on the chain guide causing a pinging noise that sounds like it's coming from under the tank...
Just picked up the 2002 model. It's a vast improvement over my previous bike a 2000 CBR F4. I haven't had much of a chance to explore the top-end VTEC change as I have yet to go through a thorough break-in period. I am very impressed with the ergonomics, everything just seems right. Can't wait to put some miles on it but WI in springtime is a bit unpredictable...Just wish Honda could have made the exhaust a bit louder, the engine note is superb!
