I have had my J-H for 20 years now and I love the car. I have rebuilt my car exactly the way that I wanted it, with new body work and a 200+hp engine, improved wheels and tires, etc. It is just a great little car. I wanted the smallest high performance car I could find, and this one is like a pocket Ferrari. 0-60 about 6.5 secs, top speed around 140 mph, so small it handles like a dream, and after mods very reliable. Wouldn't trade it for anything (my family is going to bury me in it).
Its a great little car- just find one that's been taken care of and rust-free. The engine is amazing and can be built up to really perform even better. I bought mine with a clapped out engine and a tired interior but a good body to gradually restore and rebuild. The most bang for the buck possible- its not so well known as Triumph, MG, Alfa, etc. but that only adds to the car's appeal as far as I'm concerned. Reliability? For a 30+ year old SPORTS car its pretty good for one that's been maintained, otherwise.... You want a reliability 5 then get a new Japanese econo-box....
My buddy gave me a 74 healey for free so the value is great. I have worked on a few cars and am amazed that the Lotus 907 in my 74 came stock with aluminum everything. Carbs, intake, heads and covers, as well as the block and tranny. Not to mention the headers and a fully welded exhaust all the way to the performance muffler. It is also an overcam engine. Back in 74, this car was the bomb!! I am currently restoring it from scratch so I have yet to drive one but I can't wait. The one thing I don't understand is that the money spent on the engine was not spared. At the same time, they put drum brakes on the rear. Go figure. Thanks!!
Its Healey NOT Healy. The Jensen Healey was available in 3 Versions. MKI was fitted with a very early Lotus 907 engine which can be tempremental, and was fitted with a 4 speed Gearbox. MK II Improved 907 engine, build quality and trim level. JH5 5 speed gearbox and Rubber bumpers
Have own and drive this J-Healey that had 91k on the clock Done the head restored the body.Since then the only problem i had was the fuel pump.thats what i call reliability. Turn the key wait for the gas pressure pull the choke and start it .Wham you are ready to go as long and as far as you want at highway traffic speed.Yvon St Martin

Not to put a damper on anyone's happiness in here, but nthe reliability ratings mystify me. These cars are completely reliable provided you rebuild the Poorly-Adapted-to -Street-Use, racy Lotus 907 once a year. Literally. In their defense, once running, the sounds are exotic and pleasant and the car is fun.

Exciting performance from the standard 150 BHP 2.0 litre Lotus engine, refined handling with excellent grip and brakes. Cars can be used for daily transport, indeed they prefer to be used. Some cars modified with the 2.2 170 BHP Lotus engine. A very useable, fun and good looking classic with bags of character; fairly reliable and excellent spares support.
