Own a 2002 dci what can I say ....... brilliant, should have bought one years ago, as others say the kids love it, and their not so small anymore, not a "loser cruiser" as my youngest says ..... not really sure what that is ....... returns about 45 mpg bombing about, seems to get that how ever you drive, we tow a lightweight caravan and we get 31 mpg with that on the back, just one gripe, all the hidey holes are not quite big enough to be of any real use, sorry to hear of other "unreliable" cars, we are either very lucky, or they are unlucky, would mind getting hold of 4x4 type......... ummm maybe end of next year.

I have a 2000 2.0 Sport Alize model as two small children under 4 seems to make this sort of car compulsary these days.

Anyway, I think the performance of the 140 BHP engine is superb (quicker than a golf GTI according to whatcar magazine), although the economy is rather poor if like me you occasionally feel the need for a little spirited driving.

Cabin layout is very useful, I have had the rear seats in and out numerous times for various reasons.

I have had the exhaust replaced which worked out rather expensive for a back & middle box, but thats it so I cannot complain.

My car has the twin electric sunroof fitted, which does seem to leak from time to time. I have cleared out the drain holes at the front so this should fix this little problem.

To sum up, the models from 99- early 01 were better equipped than the later ones, and if you get a good one, keep it as there does seem to be a few friday afternoon cars out there.

I have a 1.6 petrol 16valve Scenic 2000 (W reg) good car, very adaptable but all went wrong when at 48000 miles, the auxillary belt sheaded, the debris got into the timing belt and ruined the engine. my question to Renault can this happen, their reply was non comittal but said in certain circumstances that this could happen and tough luck!!! Buy a new engine £2500. I have been very careful with this belt ever since but a couple of weeks ago after the Major 72000 mile service the aux belt went again, the renault dealer said the jockey pully caused the break. Bill was £289 for repair, next day after 5 miles the car came to a stop. you`ve guest, the aux belt again but this time it has ruined the engine again. Cause this time, alternator problems. Renault should realy get to grips with this, making engines that can fail when the auxillary belt fails, but they have not and indeed the current cars on sale, all have this potential expensive problem. I understand the problem covers all their current engines 1.4, 1.6 2.0 petrol and 1.9 deisels. On my experience a broken aux belt has a 66.6% probability of writing off the engine. BE WARNED.
In 45 years of motoring with all types of cars including other Reaults I have never had engine trouble because of Auxillary Belts.

We bought our 1.8 Fidji in April 2003 and have run up about 8000 miles since then (it's now the beginning of 2004). We've had no problems whatsoever despite getting a lot of use from the car up and down the country. One gripe was when we had a puncture it cost £120 for a new tyre thanks to the big alloys our model came with. Plus the engine is a bit of a has guzzler, but you should expect that with a 1.8. It certainly has a puch to it which is nice from a control point of view.

I use the car for commuting and find it superb on the motorway (very smooth, not noisy at all) and comfortable in town (rolls a little at roundabouts but very colid the rest of the time). The weight of the car is distributed excellently making this car very solid and stable on the whole.

The removable rear seats are a superb feature and the various hidden storage areas are great for sneaking contraband through customs. So I've heard (ahem...)

I can also recommend the double sunroof option which makes the car feel more light and airy (if you like that kind of thing).

Brilliant family car with plenty of room, only niggle is a slightly noisy Aliminium engine and tendency to sway in high winds at speed. Excellent for long drives as the comfort aspect was very thoroughly thought out. Very handy 12v power point in between back seats which is ideal for the kids hand held electronic games.

The previous Scenic was Turbo D which went well until engine topend destroyed itself after 20K miles/18 months. £2000 bill later and we lost confidence with it. Dealer was brilliant and gave us really good deal on Scenic 4x4. This is a little thirstier(39mpg) but we LOVE IT! We go down to miid-France regularly and it's so easy and feels safe. Was brilliant in snow & icey conditions.Bit slow off the mark tho' so don't go for one if you like racing.

My only gripe is the clunky automatic gearbox. Apart from that, its an ideal family car and the kids love it.

Bought this car in 98 as a direct import from Southern Ireland so saved myself a hefty sum, now coming to two years old with 40 thousand on the clock and getting better with age and trips to southern france touring. The Turbo diesel I find returns 50 Mpg even with my driving style which is a bit heavy footed and the engine lively enough to keep pace with all the other traffic. I would say if you have an active family and dont need more than five seats a wonderful car.

good family car (2001 year of production) for long jorneys especcialy. very comfortable interior space even for me (185 cm). engine (1.6 16v) powerfull enough for city driving, but this is not a driver's car. I like it, except its quality. I was on service 7 times during warranty period.

I OWN A 1998 SCENIC 1.9DTi. This is by far the worst car i have ever owned. It has the worst driving position and most uncomfortable front seats that offer no support and are impossible to get comfortable in. The reliability of the car is questionable with cold starting being a problem! hopefully selling soon!!

I purchased a 1.9DCI Fidji Scenic because the family hated my Focus 1.8 Zetec. The Focus is a good drivers car but hard suspension and seats caused my young son to be ill on long journeys! also fuel economy and depreciation is poor.
The Scenic Fidji has 205/50 16" wheels, the steering is as sharp as the Focus and the handling is much better than the press would have you believe, in fact apart from some controlled body roll the handling in every other respect is as good as a Focus. The driving position is slightly awkward but you soon get used to it. The DCI engine in the Scenic on paper is not as quick as a 1.8 petrol Focus however in real life driving conditions it is much quicker! The Focus is a good car but the Scenic is as good and much more than just a 'car' also the kids love it. It is easy to drive, small on the outside but large on inside. The car has covered 1000 miles and is returning 42 - 44 mpg on short journeys. My only regret is I didn't buy the Scenic before.

A diesel automatic - sadly not made anymore. It is a wonderful car. I use a wheelchair and the seat height is perfect and ajustable. In the back I can fit an electric hoist and a large electric scooter with no trouble. A brilliant design.
