Bought a year ago for fun commuting (no car). Payed Aus$7200 (2300 quid?) great handling bike! extremely stable at speed. My city has few trafic lights and alot of semi-rural link roads between bits of it so this bike is quite enjoyable. Would'nt be quite as fun in a more traditional grid road city - might overheat aswell in heavy traffic. Scottoiler is a good option (can be attached by a plug into the cylinder head. It has plenty of speed when you need it but is easier to keep it within the proximity of the speed limit than bigger bikes and is quite a good option if you value your licence.
I usually ride with half of the revs in reserve which is a good feeling - when you get the impulse you can go very quickly by staying above 10000revs.

i fitted a bicycle computer to mine because the odo was'nt working and the damping on the speed needle was ruined causing it to jump and waver in the general vicinity of the speed i was doing - also i have a bigger rear sprocket for more acceleration -so the calibration would be out. bike comp. gives nice digital readout w/ a slight time delay of one or 2 seconds.
Tyres are a bit cheaper than larger bikes and are the same as for 250cc two strokes race bikes.
I have recently been testing bigger bikes (cbr600,zx6-r, vtr1000,sprintRS) and i am not sure if i need all that power around town (although it wouldn't be the end of the world -or would it?).
A great little bike .

I can only say that the RVF400 is the most exciting bike I have ridden. I fitted mine with a Scorpion exhaust which sounds mental when you get above 10000rpm. Great bike for twisties but no good 2 up or on motorways. Mine was stolen on 25 Feb 2003. Reg is M368 XTC so in the unlikely event that the thieves have left the reg plate on and you see it you know the f-er is riding mine. Also has rare silver/magnesium wheel rims. The right foot peg has also some scuffs from a pretty scary roundabout kneedown in wales last year!

I brought my RVF400 off a mate(my first bike after passing my test). His other half had just had a baby and he needed some quick money. Lets just say that his loss was my gain! unfortunatley he had dropped it and scuffed some of the stickers on the lower fairing, anyone out there know where I can get some. Its the only thing that is spoiling a fantastic machine.

I'm 25 and have just finished my first season racing using the NC35. I fell in love with the bike when I had one on the road but had to upgrade due to it's lack of top speed but there is no better handeling 400 out there. I have finished 2nd in the novice 400 Championship with Derby Phoenix MCC and before the last meeting at Croft I've had the Engine tuned, a Ram Air System fitted and the Twin Pipe Exhaust System. It's now running at 73Bhp all the work done by Ricki at RLR Motorsports. I can honestly say it's the most enjoyable bike I have ever rode and on a tight twisty track there is no other 400 to beat it. I have also embarrased many an R1 and Fireblade riders on Trackdays.

I'm only twenty, and have already owned two RVF,s!!They've both had full race systems and sound far better for it. The only drawback is a tendency to spit flame on the overrun. Looks mental but has cost me two indicators!! They look gorgeous, handle mind-blowingly, and reliable as f**k! Honestly, what more can you you want? Keep an eye on front tyre wear which can lead to tank slappers, otherwise, very little to fault!

I sell de-restrictors (rev booster) for Honda VFR/RVF400. Price is £39.95 including p+p. If you haven't got one, what are you waiting for? Why settle for 112mph when you can transform your machine into a 140mph monster!! Also other de-restrictors available for ZXR400 and GSXR400. Contact me at [Log in to view email]

I SAY: RVF RULES.
This bike is just so special. Just the look and the design gives you a boner. Even when it's raining outside.
I have a 95-er, but new model and when i first road her, people (even non-bikers) started asking things about her.
The best thing of this bike is: You don't see/find them easy and it has the performance of a duc.. The Honda shape and technology is outstanding and special (honda) too.
If you want a bike, not everybody has?
Buy/Find yourself a RVF400 (or 750!) haha.

Kind racing regards:Jarno #60

Having owned an NC24 and then a couple of years later moved onto a neat NC30 the natural selection had to be the RVF400 NC 35.

I remember first seeing the bike at the time they were first coming over in 94/95 and thinking that bikes didn't come any better.

I've waited nearly 7 years to get on one and boy they are everything they look. Keep your R1, ZXR, Duke this is the ultimate pocket rocket with bells!

The grin factor is guaranteed all day, perhaps a little pricey but it's worth every penny.

Biggest let down is definately the fact there not building them any more.

Mines bog standard and original which is the way I like em. T reg 1999 beauty.

I used to ride a zxr400 but when looking to change to a newer model zxr saw the rvf in the dealers showroom,to call it sexy is an understatement.straight away i had to have it,It is a 1996 model in red, white, purple&yellow. I've owned this bike for 2 years now and it never fails to bore me.being a 400 it is extremely light but it's v4 engine stops it being too revvy with an amazing amount of torque right throuout the rev range. Honda did not release this bike in the u.k but it is available through most grey importers. Some spares have to be obtained through mail order but in the two years i've owned this machine i've only bought oil, plugs and an air filter. This bike loves pirelli dragons which i find last a respectable 4-5000 miles. Two freinds of mine one has a zx9r the other an r1 commented that the handling is as good if not better than theirs. When imported into this country they are restricted to 112mph but a £35 addon part derestricts it to full power.last year(99)five of us went to see foggy at brands (r1,zx9,cbr600,r6)and every time we pulled up at the services for a break they were all saying "I cant bloody belieive that thing, are you sure its a 400"My freind said his zx9 only started to pull away from me when we were at about 130mph, top speed is 140.the other good thing about this bike is it's identical to it's bigger brother the RVF750 (rc45) which costs 18'000 !!!!!and it is comparable in physical size to an r1 (with 1inch jack up kit, improves handling)

The best 400cc bike, period!
Performance: Sharp, stable, with pin point accuracy and incredible power delivery (get it past 9000 revs & you'll see what I mean).

Reliability: Bullet proof, as standard by Honda. The only fault on some of these bikes is the regulator/rectifier; easily fixed.

Parts availability: Engine & electronic components, etc are easy to find; both new and second hand; plastics are not so easy to get second hand, but easy enough if u got the cash for new stuff.

Value for money: The most grins per £pound£ guaranteed.

Check out http://www.400greybike.co.uk/ for more on this bike and other 400s.

i owned my nc 35 for a year. kicked ass every sunday on the twisties at llandovery mid - wales. now i have a gsxr 600 k1, straight line fun is far better than on the rvf but on the twisties its qutionable. sold my 97 model to my father for half the price i could have got for it (lucky bastard). they still fetch fantastic money for what they are, but much bigger bikes can be bought for that price.

owned the repsol vfr400 for about 4 days and its great except the fact that it wants new sparks. The only thing i can fault on the bike is the way the riders seat is attatched to the bike!
1) its a tw*t to get it off!
2) the "brackets" that hold it on are weak and ive snapped em without any force!-just put some super steel on-sorted
