Hi to you all, Im seriously close to making a purchasing decision, just not sure which way to jump! I have a budget of just over 3K and absolutely adore the look of the XJR1300 however a good friend who once owned a GSX1400 says the GSX is the only way to go, ok not the good looks of the XJR, but for comfort and performance says there is only one winner (the GSX)! My question, is there anyone who has owned or had real experience on both these bikes? And what are your thoughts & comments.

four it one
Owned for 3 months.
Owned my y2k sp from new, bigger jets, handmade exhaust system with Leo Vinci titanium oval can, drilled throttle slides, Barnett drag clutch, covered 50k miles. Original clutch too weak for torque. Great riding position for congested roads you can see everywhere. Great throttle response. Just getting my shocks refurbed and uprated, bout time too!
Useable power

xjr1300sp special
Owned for more than 5 years.
I owned a 1999 Black standard XJR for 2 years. It was powerful, handled well and with the fly screen could hold decent speed without breaking my neck. Always drew a crowd and kicked some sports bike ass! Went abroad on it with no problems whatsoever. Wish I'd never sold it. I have owned almost 30 motorcycles of all types and I really think this is the best alround bike of them all. Lovely.
when did the aliens come and take me and moulkd a street fighter that throbs like a monster and build it around me.i love the bike , and after moving from an xv 750 to the xjr 1300 ive moved from a good rider on his bike limit to a good rider with loads a power. fitted scorpion 2into1 pipes and it sounds like its burning the road even on tickover...the bikes are head turners for those who dont know and yet still the envy of those who do know but havent got the bottle.
Got to be the best of the retros looks like a bike should, do as i did change the forks for r1 units put on proper ohlins fully adjustable rears and you got a bike that handles, bore it out to a 1380 fit flatsides nitrous plus lots more making her 235 bhp like mine and you got a true sportsbike beater. For info on any of the mods, pictures, tuning etc, rideouts, parts for sale, manuals, etc or any help at all with the xjr visit my site and join the forum 130 members and growing, you won't be dissapointed, cooky http://www.xjr1300.co.uk
Have an 2001 SP Kenny Roberts Replica. In standard trim the bike is a good all rounder but spend some of your hard earn cash and you can awke the beast that lies beneath.. 1/ Replace inlet manafold rubbers with FJ 1200 3C Rubbers, 2nd hand.£25. 2/ Bin the exhaust and go for a 4-2-1 system like a Scorpion.£400. 3/ Bin the front spocket(17 Tooth) for an R1(15 tooth).£15. 4/ Stage one Dyno jet kit.£70. 5/ K & N Filter.£50. 6/ Now go along to your local tunner and get him to re-map the ignition and set the bike up on the rolling road.£200 approx.
Total bill is going to be around £760 but the smile on your face when you pull that throttle open and release the 150+ horses out the back end......Priceless.
I got lots of help and info before I bought my bike and plenty of good advice and maintenance tips to keep it going. Plus the site has heaps of info Photos, links and an excellent forum.
Tatty finishing. I live on the coast and no longer have any laquer left. But brilliant bike .20000 miles now .went to tangier last year two up fully loaded. France , Andorra and Spain on route. 4200 miles . Not a moments worry. Hairpins motorways morrocan dirt tracks didn,t faze it. last bike a vmax so a little down on power but feels like a 600 when you're riding it.
I own a yellow k.roberts rep.1300sp. just fitted an Ixil 4into1 can after having to reduce the size of the registration plate and fitting smaller indicators......now sounds as good as it looks!!! also have matching baglux tank cover, ventura luggage system, meta alarm, datatag, scottoiler, hugger and flyscreen.superb looking/going bike.
The XJR1300sp is very good in all aspects except the finish on the alloy casings, forks and so on. I put Goodridge hoses on which improved the brakes, and a set of lower bars. All in all a very good bikeCan you really get corroded parts changed under warranty?
I had a xjr '99 but I crased into a Mercedes E 55 AMG. It was a great bike, but now only the engine is OK and I'd like to put it on an another bike (possibly on my brother's '84 CBX 400), or if someone could suggest me any other bike.
I've done just over 30,000 miles on my XJR around UK, France, Spain & Italy. Had front fork lowers, engine covers and rocker covers replaced under warranty due to corrosion. Toured 2 up with luggage. Tank range limited and seat could be more comfortable. Addition of Givi screen makes long rides a pleasure. Great bike! Anyone know of a UK Owners Club or where I can get a 4-1 after market exhaust system please?
just bought a aug 2002 model black and silver, after riding a cb750 f2 of which was my first bike 18 months ago, contact H&R insurance £450 fulcom 1yr ncb, the bike is fab and how anyone can slag it off must be trying to compare it with an R1, for what it is designed for it is ace.
I have a 2001 1300sp after looking for a bike that was near to all the bikes I used to ride RD400/Z650/FZ750/CBX and not a sports bike in the last 2 years its been fault free, when parked always has people looking at it and has been round france/holland, two up touring is no problem the only pain is the fuel range around 160 miles ,the gear change can be improved by useing mobil 1 top bike
