220 CDI SE CLASSIC DIESEL ESTATE AUTOMATIC - Supurb build quality, comfort and sheer joy to drive. I average 40 mpg and can get 55 mpg! Mine is 4 years old and has 86000 on the clock - just run in. Buy one you won't ever want another car.

As the owner of a Mercedes C280 V6 Elegance Auto with full electrics, cruise control, climate and black leather trim with silver metallic coachwork I have only one word that sums up this beautifully reliable vehicle - MARVELLOUS !!! - Once a Mercedes driver always a Mercedes driver

I had a C250 Diesel for 3 years.
It was the worst car I have ever
driven on wet roads or snow (don't
even try to drive on snow!). It
was economical (40mpg) but very
unrewarding to drive

I have a 3 year old C180 automatic with 35k on the clock. Whilst it is smooth and quiet it is the most underpowered vehicle I have driven. Once moving the engine does cruise well in the 70 to 100 mph range but watch out for winds or even just gusts of air.I do not expect it to handle like a sports car but even in straight lines it wallows .... don't even mention bends it constantly wants to oversteer. I don't think I would buy another Mercedes saloon.

The C280 IS probably the most beautifully built car I have ever had the pleasure to drive. The BMW 3-series is not threat at all!

I must like these cars - I've had 3 of them! The C180 is underpowered but ok once it's rolling. The C250TD is like a rocket once the turbo has got going, but it's rather noisy and you get fed up with the diesel growl. I got 34 mpg from mine mostly. My latest is a C240. Very smooth and quiet. Does 25-28 mpg. Again a rather heavy car but the performance is better balanced. Very comfortable and suitable for driving long distances. All these cars are very well made but do suffer from the odd fault. Both the most recent ones have had problems with the alarm system. Basically the standard of construction is very good. Most other cars seem very trashy in comparison. They are reasonably cheap to run because depreciation is low and they do last. I can't see why you wouldn't get 250,000 miles out of one well looked after.
