Ive had my xedos6 now for 1 year. i purchased it from a garage who basicaly fleaced me.before my the purchase i had little to do with cars and my knowledge of them is even less.
so far ive had the following parts replaced.brake discs and pads / sensors on all four quarters,both cv joints,rocker cover gasket,distrib- seal,pins ect in offside wish bone,down pipe from manifold, all four tyres and they screwed up the seal arround my windsceen by siliconing it on a botched repair.there are various bits and pieces still to be done yet,but they are very minor compared with the other stuff.
ive had most of these repairs done now off my own back. the warranty wasnt worth the paper it was written on. now my car is better than the bmw and volvo i used to have.
i have the oil and filter replaced every 2 months as the engine runs so sweet. i have the engine, suspension and steering checked every 4 months by a reputable garage. the body work... - well mines A1 it looks and drives now like a brand new car. high proformance and yes it does go fast. "ive had nothing done to the engine" apart form the rocker cover gasket and it is capable of doing 130mph. im sure it would do more but i dont want to ruin it after having all that work done.
THE XEDOS 6 IS WITHOUT DOUBT A FUTURE JAP CLASSIC, IT DOES NOT SCORE ON EVERY POINT BUT OVERALL IT AN EXELLENT CAR WITH BEAUTIFUL LOOKS,YES I AGREE THE BMW 3 SERIES IS AN OUTSTANDING CAR, BUT SO COMMON 'THE GERMAN FORD '. I FIND THEY ARE QUITE EASY TO MAINTAIN, THE ONLY TROUBLE I HAVE HAD IS MISFIRING DUE TO DAMPNESS ON THE SPARKPLUG LEADS, EASILY CURED WITH SILICONE SPRAY,ALSO BACK BRAKES NEED A SERVICE EVERY COUPLE OF YEARS, AS THE CALLIPERS GET STUCK UP. THE ONLY PERFORMANCE POINTS THAT A BMW SCORES BETTER OVERALL ARE THE SUSPENSION AND STEERING, THE ENGINE IS SUPERB AND SO SMOOTH.IF ONLY IT WAS REALISED WHAT A LOVELY CAR THE XEDOS 6 IS, THEY WOULD BE SNAPPED UP STRAIGHT AWAY,ONE OF THE BEST LOOKING CARS OF THE PAST DECADE,WITH JAP REALIBILITY.I HAVE CONSIGNED MY 3 SERIES BMW TO THE GARAGE!!!!.I GET A KICK OUT OF DRIVING IT, AS THE SAME DAY I BOUGHT IT, AND HAVE ENJOYED EVERY DAY OF MAINTAINING IT TO A HIGH CONDITION.
I bought a 1993 'K' reg Xedos 6 2.0 V6 Auto with 112k on it, it now has 120k on it and the car still drives like new, fantastic super smooth engine - silent when driven sensibly and with a gorgeous gentle roar when driven hard. Quicker than any equivalent sized BMW, Audi, quicker than a Lexus IS200 Sport even. Handles beautifully and the brakes are eyeball popping - taken from the heavier 626 GT - 4 channel ABS.
Looks like a retro baby Jaguar and is more exclusive than any BMW, Merc, Audi, Lexus etc Insurance however is higher than equivalent car - why?
Absolutely brilliant in my view - well built, fabulous engine and a joy to own. Bought mine with 80,000 miles on the clock and now has 182,000! There are a few things that go wrong; rear brake calipers (handbrake) and No.6 spark plug lead, and plastic strut bearings (groans when turning steering wheel) but that's about it!
You can get the manuals. Dealers are reluctant to sell them for obvious reasons but phone Mazda UK and tell them which dealer you want to buy them from. I received a phone call straight away from the garage afterwards asking when I wanted to pick them up - and they are very good.
I'm going for 200,000 and will then buy another, they are that good and so very cheap - the most underrated car ever in my view. Enjoy :-)
I bought a 3yr old with 75k miles on the clock. I kept it for a year and put a further 12k on. No problems whatsoever, the engine was dreamy smooth. Despite the mileage there was a minimum of rattles and squeaks. Loved every bit of it.

RECENTLY PURCHASED MY XEDOS 6 FROM THE AUCTION 1994 (L) 2 OWNERS V6 SE WITH 100,000 MILES FOR £1300. AFTER 2 MONTHS BOTH FRONT COIL SPRINGS SNAPPED, IT COST £56 TO REPLACE FROM A 1999 CAR IN THE BREAKERS.i FOUND OUT THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE XEDOS FOR THESE SPRINGS IN OCT 1997, HOWEVER INSTEAD OF REPLACING FOR UPRATED SPRINGS THEY FITTED PROTECTORS TO AVOID A SNAP SPRING FROM POPPING A TYRE. THE CAR IS IN GOOD CONDITION AND IS AS QUIET AS MY DAD 5 SERIES BMW WHICH ISN'T A YEAR OLD YET. NO OTHER PROBLEMS TO REPORT OTHER THAN I'LL PROBABLY NEED A NEW STARTER MOTOR SOON AS I KEEP TRYING TO RESTART THE CAR WHEN THE ENGINE IS RUNNING, SO QUIET.

Recently upgraded from a 626 and think the Xedos is superb. The purr and grunt from the engine depending on how it is being driven are music to my ears. Very comfortable car for longer journeys too. I had considered buying a Volvo S40 2.0CD however, I'm so glad I decided on the Xedos (just wish I could pronounce the name properly).

Beautiful car, id love a 2litre but the insurance would be too high! Really comfortable car and fast enough! Only problem would be there is no head room in the back! I love the fact that they are so rare!

I have owned a Xedos 6 for nearly 2 years now and had very few problems. Sticky handbrake linkage (car had been standing)and the odd electrical fault. Power operated aerial had to be replaced. Some parts expensive, no manuals seem to be available so every little thing has to be done by Mazda agent. Car is quiet, comfortable and well built, it's quite quick with a nice engine and of course there's that styling...
