had the ax as a cheap run about ,thrashed it everywhere never let me down .light nimble ,modest power but very usable .economical ,could mix it with anythin on the road . im a qualified pilot and ride high performance bikes .but the ax was always fun to drive
I bought my AX 1.5 diesel for £600 last year with 107k on the clock as a second car. So far the only expense has been after some complete muppet broke in and stole the back of my stereo and perscription sun glasses! The diesel engine gives around 50 mpg around town and apart from spewing out water from the radiator cap its ok. Has to go now though as its very boring.
I am now on my 2nd AX GT - this one is a ltd edition GT500. The previous owner has spent at least £3000 on it and it is the dog's dangly bits. It has white 15" KN alloys with Toyo Proxes tyres, Impreza scoop, resprayed British Racing Green, Bilstein shocks and springs, poly bushes, drilled and grooved discs with Padgid fast road pads, stainless brake lines, Pipercross induction kit and a Powerflow custom full stainless exhaust. It goes like stink but has so much grip it feels underpowered, a situation I intend to change at a later date! Not sure whether a tuned AX lump or maybe a VTR conversion, might have to stick with the AX engine as it would be less hassle. Other mods planned include Morette quad headlights, strut brace and the small matter of squeezing in my ICE which is currently residing in the 405 estate I sold to my brother, a big job that one. (6 channel Viper amp, Alpine head unit, JL Audio sub, Focal PolyKevlar components, Focal dual concentrics and maybe even 6x9s if I think I need them, don't think I will though! I will have my website up & running soon with info & pics - http://www.dadracer.co.uk
My ax is a malaysian made unit, so it is known as PROTON TIARA. It has a 1.1 carb engine. No complains about performance as it is better than any 1.3 lit cars. However the body work is VERY fragile and spare part are difficule to locate and expensive.
I have a mk1 ax gt <91. and it may not be the most refined car on the planet it will give any other 'boy racer' car (novas do not fall into this category as they are too slow to even mention) a run for its money. I get to 0-60 in 7.5sec and can do 125 top whack - not bad for a 1.4 8v ey?. However for the ultimate car whcich mine is currenently being converted into - AX VTS!!! (just bring it!)
The AX GT is a very very quick car, The Brakes are Crap, the interior rattles & looks like it was desgined by a blind frenchman.. & it'll pee pee all over a VTR
On the 0-60 run it will give anything a run for it's money, mine has a K&N filter fitted and does it in 7.9, plus I get an almighty induction roar. Lower the suspension and it will out corner anything too. Fun is the word. Down sides are few, only that it rattles a lot, but you'll be having too much fun to care. Fuel economy is great due to the low weight. Take time to find a bargain, mine cost me 800 in good condition.
The citroen ax gt is an excellent car, its fast, looks good, handles well not to mention only group 9 insurance, sure its no volvo for reliability but its to much fun for anyone to worry about.
Just bought 1.1L forte model for £500 on a M plate as a second car with only 42,000 on the clock seems a good bye up to now quite nippy but brakes are terrible

At the end of the day axgt's arent fast...ive owned 2 (one g reg and one k reg) and ive also owned two 5 GT Turbos. There is no competition speed wise, 5 GTT wins hands down.
The AXGT is a fun nippy little car that i enjoy driving, they arent fast and, to be honest, if you wanna car that does 0-60 in 7 secs go for a 5 Gtt n dont waste your money on one of these!

I have got a 1.1 ax and it does 0-60 in bout 8 secs (actually i am beginning to think it has 1.4 engine). I have a pipercross ind kit and custom centre exit exhaust. It will out accelerate almost anything you come up against. Great for parts as sccrappies have loads of ax's. Beat my mate in his almost new vtr by miles. Great little car. 4/5.
I thought that the worst cars were the russian Ladas but this is much worse, the brakes are terrible the radiator throws water from the knob when becomes hot, my mechanic told me to sell it, another mechanic told me that the water pump may cause damage to the engine because it s wings are erroted easily, the interior is crap, however the only good part is that it has good driving performance and suspension. It accelerates fast and is easy to drive in the city!

A good car for the money - my '93K Debut cost me a lot less than the list price, although it needed tlc to make it look its best.
The 1.0i engine is economical, not as slow as you might think and very noisy and harsh, but it's good fun to drive if you don't mind the rolly suspension.
Reliability is not a strong point if the mechanicals are neglected, but rust is very rare and if looked after they do more or less run forever.
The original water pump, radiator and alternator all managed well over 103,000 miles before leaking, blocking and breaking - not bad!
Oh, one thing - the brakes are terrible. Mine's just had all new front discs, pads and calipers and they're still shockingly bad, but who cares?
Cracking little car!
