I have reason to believe I have one of the hardest working P75s on the country, still going strong after 3 years of ownership.
Due to lack of space in the flat, the Escom sits up in our loft, exposed to draughts and cold in the winter, and extreme heat in the summer.
Stuffed inside, is 80Mb of RAM (up from the original 16Mb), the original 1Gb hard drive, a second 8.4 Gb hard drive, network card, modem, CD ROM, CD Writer, Turtle Beach Sound Card and floppy. In it's time, it's also been host to 2 different scanners, about 3 different printers and a few other wierd and wonderfuls. Formerly windows 95, it's now happily running NT4, with IIS 3 in addition to Cold Fusion Server, and a Sybase database. It's been switched on 24 hours a day for about the last 3 years, and it's never missed a beat.
Escom disappeared from the high streets a couple of years ago, which is a shame. I would have thought with products as well built and reliable as this, and in a market growing as fast as the computer industry, it must have taken a fairly spectacular bit of mismanagement to make it fail.
Overall a well built, expandable, reliable machine.

My Escom P120 was my first every computer! Ok, so since then i've moved onto a G5 but that doesn't mean i don't have fond memories of the machine! 1gig seemed like it was a bottomless pit at the time. I don't know what on earth happened to the machine over the years, wether i gave it away or sold it, but i don't miss it a great deal.
It was weird with Escom, BANG, they were everywhere in the UK with some increadibly reasonable prices. Sadly my folks were idiots and paid nearly £300 for post-sale warrenty, only to find all their stores shut down and the warrenty company didn't want to touch Escom customers with a barge-pole.
oh well, you live and learn.

I think that this machine is as good as it gets. We have had an Escom P75 now for 5 years now and is still running. You get the odd bit of trouble like crashing once in a while but nothing like you here about in other machines. It loads up a bit slow now, we have updated the hard drive from a 1Gig to a 6.4 Gig which inproved it no end, but every thing else in it is the same. We use it ever day and are very pleased about it. I don't no whats going to happen when it finaly goes down. [Log in to view email]
