I haven't had my little car very long but it is by far the most fun I've had driving a car in many years. It's so wonderfully organic and with a character all of it's own. Parts seem readily available over the internet and if you find a 2cv specialist near by it's helpful because they differ slighty from the normal run of the mill cars that most garages see. Also I've noticed lots of clubs around for advice and 2cv activities should you wish to join in.
My children love it and have since named it 'Herbie', not original I know, well maybe for a 2cv, but it's the only car they've been interested in enough to name.
On a summers day, with the roof down it's the most fun you can have on two wheels, I love it!

I 'inherited' mine, 'E' reg, at the start
of 1990 from my ex. and the car has
served brilliantly. Just over 100,000
miles now, many of them working
very hard (she has been involved in
about a dozen house moves for
myself, family and friends, and has
been 'prime mover' in half of those).

For a decade the car had few faults
and was absurdly cheap to run.
Recent years have brought more
issues, and the engine is a bit less
efficient than it was. Also I wish I had
the courage to rip out the whole
wiring loom and rebuild it, as the
electrics are by far the worst, and
least reliable feature of mine, and I
think of most.

Latest is that the starter motor has
died - so I have to hand-crank her to
start up!! That ceased to be cool in
about 1925. But any modern car
would be crippled by the same fault.

Sadly many local yobs have enjoyed
vandalising her, so she has been
badly damaged. I keep repairing her
and repainting the damage, which I
hope irks them greatly!

Surely the best thing to ever come out
of France! The Deux Chevaux is a
timeless classis of the funkiest kind!

Mine is a 1986 now 95000 miles old. I
make myself smile by wondering what a
similar aged Escort would be like. All
rusty, burning oil. A 2cv may be no
stranger to rust but it does not have
to be a killer. Simply change the
bodyparts, the chassis even the shell!
Everything bolts on for easy
maintainence and with that noisy engine
screaming away as you roll around the
bends, fun on four wheels does not get
any better! Well, not at such low
speeds anyway!! Keep firing on two!

The most fun car I've ever owned. It's
different to drive and has loads of
character, unlike most modern vehicles
and the unusual gear change isn't as
hard to master as most people think it
is. Cheap to fill up with petrol and
easy to repair, it's ideal as a second
car for going around town. Even though
it is basic inside, the seats are
surprisingly comfy. What more can I
say! Driving round a roundabout has
never been so much fun. On the
downside? Keep on top of the rust.

Fantastic car. How can the performance
rating be so low - it's a 602cc engine,
but will trundle along at 70mph+ all
day. Acceleration isn't up to much, but
you soon learn to anticipate, and wind
that huge flywheel up to speed before
pulling into traffic. Excellent fun in
the summer with the roof down. Runs on
teaspoons of petrol and is a lot more
comfortable than it looks, honestly!

A real giggle to own and drive, thrifty on fuel and not as slow as a 600cc engine might suggest! Straightforward to work on, with enough 2CV nuts around to get parts from. The mechanicals and electrics are both pretty reliable, rust is probably the biggest problem, especially at the bottom of the centre door pillars, on the front of wings, and the chassis.
Buy one that's been undersealed or had a new chassis and you're laughing - cheap yet characterful motoring for the price of a decent holiday.

This is a car that always gets noticed, whether people are completing you or laughing its deffinetely an eye catcher. My 2CV is currently painted a lime green sort of colour which doubles the attention as you may well imagine.

I have a brilliant drive in this car whereever I go, of course it can get a bit whiney at high speeds.

I have had a bit of trouble with rust in the windscreen surround but spares and panels etc are so easy and cheap to get hold of its not really a problem. I think this car will last me forever.

One of motoring's true design classics. Launched in 1948 and in production for over 45 years, the 2CV was a classic exercise in design simplicity.
Utterly cheap to run, reliable, and when the time does come to fix it, easy to work on, by virtue of it's front end which almost completely removes to allow access to the engine.
On the down side, there aren't many creature comforts, a bit slow, and leans precariously around corners.

I had three, 2 second hand and one from new, which lasted me for 11 years. I wish that I was driving one now. Hardly ever let me down, except in the coldest of winters. Wonderful

best £950 ever spent. So much fun and quite nippy for a 602cc car. Also insurance group 1, so ideal for a 17 year old male

Great wee car had one for a year and scared the daylights of most of my friends going round corners. Dont buy one if you dont have a garage or dont use it much as the electrics can go funny. Check the chasis when buying (galvanised ones are best. Parts are cheap and DIY easy but costs can mount. So try to buy a good one.
