I have owned my Invicta for 15 years cruising Cornish coast. Built in 1966 it is of solid construction typical of the time, rare to find in new yachts. The accomodation is a little small and I think sometimes of going larger. However, it is such a joy to sail that I am reluctant to change. Points high, exceeds 7 knots, seaworthy, fast passagemaker. After all it is a Van da Stadt design based on folkboat lines. A previous owner sailed it to Malta and back. Being long keeled, you can leave the tiller and go below to put the kettle on. The cutaway on the forefoot of keel means that she has a small turning circle for a long keeler and reduces weted area. It has a Dolphin petrol engine that has never given any trouble, quiet, smooth and no vibration. It only weighs 90 lbs, so easy to lift out for the occasionally cleanup, service. I am surprised that the Invicta is not mentioned more often in the yachting mags.It is a faster, tougher alternative to the Contessa 26
Owned for more than 5 years.
