I have had a Drascombe Longboat for 15 years and sailed it in bays, lakes, rivers, and estuarys on the US East and West coasts. The Longboat is an expanded (+1 meter) Luger. It is a great boat...providing you are not in a big hurry and use foulies. Classy looking, safe, versatile, spacious (though no cabin, hence the need for foul weather gear), and low maintenance.

I have an elderly wooden lugger which is a delight to sail and own. This euphoria has recently been enhanced with the purchase of a swinging cradle trailer which has totally revolutionised launching and recovery - now a simple single-handed operation. I sail in the Portsmouth/Solent area and enjoy the admiring looks from sailors and folk on shore at the lugger's pretty lines.

Owned a Lugger for a short period of time...sailing mainly along the Atlantic side of the Florida Keys. Under jib and mizzen in the Gulf Stream off Key Largo (Hawk Channel) the boat performed beautifully in a force 5-6. I could walk around the gunwale and feel perfectly secure. (I singlehand mostly). Easily trailed, rigged and sailed. Had to sell due to a relocation.

I own a 2000 model McNulty Drascombe Lugger. I generally sail in and around the Firth of Clyde, Gairloch and round the Cloch, often up the river Clyde itself. I find the boat to be very stable and ultimately forgiving. My only gripe is the rudder set up which can be a pain in the khyber when maneuvering in extremely shallow water.
The the lines are beautiful if somewhat dated.
It's great fun. Get one now while stocks last.

I have sailed a Lugger up and down the coast from Boston MA (USA) to the great crusing waters of Maine for years. I particularly enjoy the overnight from Beverly to Casco Bay when there is much active life in the ocean all around. I stay aboard for a couple of weeks at a time. A truly wonderful boat. The hull number is 806. It is a glass boat, not wood. We have serious fog every trip, but have never had to worry. I do use a Walker log to keep track of miles. That and a compass really works. I have rigged a tent that is weather tight for the few days of rain that are inevitable. A swing stove attached to the after locker makes hot meals easily available. da
