Reviewing a 1999 model.
316i compact
Owned for 1 year.
I have owned a 318ti for 2 years. Before purchasing, I tested many golfs, and Audi A3s; the BMW was by far the best car (smoothest, most refined and sporty). I have done 30,000 miles with no problems. Servicing cost are low (I use an independant garage.
I recently spent a corporate day driving many new saloons and hatchbacks cars around a racetrack. At the end of the day my 70,000 mile BMW felt and drove "newer" than most of the brand new cars I had driven during the day!
I GOT MY 88 325I SE IN DEC2002 DIDNT WANT A BEEMER AT THE TIME TO MUCH MONEY.DROVE IT HANDED MY MONEY OVER THERE AND THEN. PLENTY OF POWER AND PLENTY ON POWERSLIDES . LOVE IT. ONLY ONE PROBLEM GOT IT FOR A £1000 OF A SO CALLED MATE AND AFTER CLOSER LOOK BIT RUSTY FOR YOUR . WELL USE 160100. NEW BACK PANEL, O/S/R INNER WHEEL ARCH, O/S SILL AND A FEW MORE PATCHERS HERE AND THERE. BUT I LOVE IT. BMW BEST DRIVERS CARS ON . NO JAP HAIRDRIERS PLEASE.
iv just brought a 318is 95 coupe, boston green, iv had volkswagon golfs for years, have always found them good sturdy well built motors, but my lovely shiney new car is the dogs nuts, im amazed at how easy it seems to glide along, beautifull round corners (dry) and i love the sound of that engine, its a pleasure to drive, running costs are less than my old 16v gti, so my wallets a bit bigger as well, without doubt the best car i have ever owned !
I have the E30 316 model (E-reg). Great motor, plenty of power and luxury considering it is over 14 years old! Main known problems I know of are the Viscous fan coupling near the radiator, puddles in the rear passenger footwells and also major rear end oversteer in the wet & snow, good fun though.
I've been running a 1994 318i SE for about a month now. It's superb! I left a long line of Fords behind when I got this and I'll never go back!! The handling is smooth and responsive; it's a whole new world. Servicing cost's are a negligible amount more than that of my previous car (an Escort) and it returns a very respectable 34-MPG. The build quality is superb and it has been designed and built with the driver in mind. An excellent car all round! Just got to save enough for an M3 now!!!
I`ve driven many cars over the years but none provides me with the fun that my 325i does. It's my daily drive and is extremely reliable. I consistently look forward to the weekends when I can blast it on lonely roads above 210kmh ! Once driven twice smitten ! BMW 4 life
I've owned a 1997 M3 Evolution Coupe since 1999 when it had 24K on the clock and now has 80K. Absolutely superb car. Very quick, very refinied (well over engineered), very reliable. Although they're not cheap to own or run, considering they will give a Ferrari F355 a run for its money (and I did) they're very good value for money. BMW main agent servicing isn't cheap but, if you do have them serviced by a main agent you can renew the warranty each year and now with no milage limit. At my last service they put a new battery on FOC which I had no idea was needed! Oh, one more thing - be careful in the wet with rear wheel drive and lots of BHP. They're now fetching less than I wished so, if you can stretch to it, buy one tomorrow. You wont regret it!
i have owned a 93 320 for 6 months. it has 130000 miles but goes like billy o and is a very fine car indeed. i have owned an audi a4 and it doesnt come close!!only one small problem if anyone can help, i have a slight ticking sound on cold start, any ideas?
I have had a E36 325iSE (L 1993)since June 2000 it had a full service history and 84.000 on the clock. This is my first Beemer and once you have had one Beemer you will never go back to having any thing else. I drove a borrowed Merc for a while and that was crap compared to the Beemer. Do your self a favour and get a Beemer, you will never look back again. I am just saving up to get a new M3 (dream on).
I had a '89 325i for 3 years, Bought it in 92 with 24000 and sold in 96 with 116,000. - I still miss it for the blend of perfomance and reliability. Gen 135mph+ (cost me six points in the first year of ownership)I saw the guy I sold it too last year, it has now done allmost 200k but he had a new cyl head at 120k. BMW dealer service can be costly but is very thorogh and can ultimately save money. My dealer had the car for a week looking to fix a vibration fault, he swapped wheels, tyres discs etc - the discs cured it and all I payed for was the standard cost of replacing the discs.
The BMW is one of the German classic "over-engineered" cars. I had a 318i for several years and used to regulary push a thousand miles a week onto it. It was a brilliant car so much so that I intend to buy another quite soon.
The problem with the Rover incident would have never come about had the previous government not decided to sell to Rover who, after all had been having a hard time for years then they were again made successful by the "marriage" of Honda for the engines and Rover for the bodywork.
However, as soon as the time came to sell the company, the government and Rover pulled the carpet right away from under the feet of Honda and sold to BMW.
I HAVE JUST BOUGHT A 1988 BMW325ise WITH A GOOD SERVICE HISTORY 2 OWNERS FROM NEW AND VERY, VERY CLEAN FOR ITS YEAR. I PAID £2900 FOR IT AND AFTER JUST HAVING IT SERVICED I FOUND NO MAJOR PROBLEMS AND THE TOTAL COST FOR THIS MAJOR SERVICE WAS LESS THAN £170 (INC CAM BELT) AFTER APPROXIMATY 2 MONTHS OF SEARCHING I HAVE FOUND MY DREAM CAR AND BEING CHIPPED AND UPRATED IT HAS UNBELIVABLE PERFORMANCE. CONCIDERING IM ONLY 22 I GOT ALL THIS PERFORMANCE AND PRESTIGE FOR LESS THAN £900 TPFT AND I HAVE ZERO NO CLAIMS POINTS FOR SPEEDING AND A COUPLE OF CLAIMS UNDER MY BELT. IM VERY IMMPRESSED WITH THIS CAR AND WOULD RECOMEND IT TO ANY ONE WHO WANTS ANYTHING THAT THIS CAR CAN PROVIDE, BUT ROAD EXPERIENCE WITH A CAR THAT HAS OVER 200BHP AND IS REAR WHEEL DRIVE IS HIGHLY RECOMENDED
Really nice cars. Must buy carefully since there are lot of abused once. The performanece and handling is good (especially the 325i). If serviced well it is very reliable.
i own an 1984 E30 320i and its really cool!! i fitted a toyota 2litre with a tructor turbo and it runs fast as hell!!!!!!
Owned for 2 years.

Ive owned a bmw e36 316i for two years now. Its runs great, not enough power though, but great on fuel. I just recently brought a bmw e30 325i se as a project car, but i like it better than the e36. The e30 has so much more character. Its the best drive yet and it has loads of power
