Good wee starter yacht.Actually sails quite well if mast is tuned properly. We get 5knts out of her in a force 3.Will sleep two adults comfortably in forward berths but aft berths are for kids or very thin adults!.Watch out for leaking window seals and rotten rubbing strake. These can all be fixed for little cost but huge amount of time involved. We resealed all through deck fittings and installed new rubbing strake and there are over two hundred and fifty screws bolts ect that needed resealing.Took two tubes of sikaflex 291 but about thirty hours labour.
Great fun little boat, and has probably helped thousands of sailors 'cut their teeth'.
We once met a couple who had spent an entire week with their three children on board. This is probably endurance to the extreme, but it's certainly comfortable for two.
Our boat had no gadgets to trim the sails (not even a kicking strap!), and the sails were past their best but even so, performance was perfectly acceptable. I doubt I will ever forget our day out in a force 5/6, our first in strong winds, when the boat just seemed to leap through the waves to windward. Got absolutely soaked, but great fun.
Bought mine last year to introduce her indoors to sailing........maybe to buy bigger in the future.......spent all summer in the Clyde.....she dont want to sell her........'nuff said
i bought mine last year at this time and it have been my first boat great fun we had great days in it all spring, sommer and fall :o) try it its great! not fast but great

What a great boat. Sailed a Leisure 17 for 8 years and have loved every minute on it. Great for cruising and for longer distances if you do not mind the space. Anybody looking for a compact safe and secure boat this is a safe bet

I have owned a Leisure 17 for 8 years and have enjoyed sailing in this safe little boat immensely.
The Leisure 17 is a cocky little boat, but as with all things cocky we forgive them if they cut the mustard. The Leisure 17 cuts the mustard.Without getting technical it is strong, this is important. It is well designed. It is safe but and this is a big BUT sailing
I've been sailing for 30 years in many small boats. But this is the one for [Log in to view email]

i just bought a leisure 17 ( 1975 ) some month ago I LOVE IT. It is a very good boat for learning and fun. It is pretty fast even in low wind and in hard wind it is exciting and have no problem giving you a kick of adrenalin in the blood. I have my wife and 2 small kids and they also love it big times. I can even sail it by myself with no problem at all - sp wife and all that stuff you can leave home and still sail if you want to - very need indeed :O) very relaxing boat with plenty of room even it is only a 17 feet boat. The space on board is very good used. greatings to the vendor of this boat

I owned one of these stout little yachts about 6 years ago. I was sad after she was sold to buy larger. Now I have sold the 'big' boat through lack of use I intend to buy another L17 and get some sailing in. They make a good singlehander and mine pointed and sailed well and never seemed to need reefing. For a couple they are ideal. Four berths, forget it. They can still be picked up fo about £1K (2002)in good condition. Thats what I call outstanding value. Jeff

I wouldn´t give mine away - She´s not fast she may be not beautiful (depends on the view, I think she is) but she is honest and reliable to the extreme. Two persons may well live aboard for one week and if you push her real hard in tough weather you get a feeling of safety one normally only gets on much bigger ships. An excellent boat for learning and loving.
Leisure 17 good little boat for inland and coastal sailing can be trailed behind a medium sized car good up wind performance not particularly fast but will get you there we like ours and trail and sail nearly every weekend subject to weather
