I owned a C reg 1.3 van(700).

It was bought as a run about and for throwing the dogs in the back to take for a walk(ideal for this).

It drove well but a little sluggish and every so often would just cut out for no reason when slowing down for a junction.Never found out the cause as I sold it after buying an estate.

i had a 1.3 meastro special not the most glam car ever made but will out perform an escort of the same range. big inside for a overall small car virtually impossible to blow the engine. the engine will out last the body work mine was well looked after and modified. over £1200 of entertainment system, leather seats personalised bonnet and grilles, straight through exhaust system sounded very good not like you'd expect a meastro to. xneon lighting all around inside and out, now at scrap yard after the rear end made contact with a wall. (whoops!!!) now toying with the idea of starting again will a 2l i MG meastro.

I've owned 3 Maestro's, 2 1.3's and the 2.0 MG. All three cars were outstandingly reliable. Great Car. I currently own a rover 220 GTI, but their will always be room for another Maestro.

Bought a 1991 two litre diesel ex-police Maestro hatchback ten years ago, costing £2042 from the auctions, and was probably one of the most reliable cars I have driven. It would comfortably cruise at 110mph, and was great for moving stuff around and towing. I sold it three years later for £900, as the engine was getting smokey after 110,000 miles. I now own a 1275cc Maestro van, with full disability conversion. Although it's very underpowered, it's even better for moving stuff as it has a high roof and fold down rear ramp. I bought it a couple of years ago, and it has also been reliable, though not as quick as the diesel! Would definitely go for the two litre diesel again.

Fantastic cars. I loved my K-1994 2.0 Diesel, reliable and very economical, over 50MPG! Been in the family almost from new. The car I learned to drive in! Heartbroken to see it written off after a rear end collision. MG 2.0 Turbo coming my way after uni!

Another vastly underrated car. Yes, the 1275cc is dog slow, but the MG Turbo is as fast as a Ferrari!
Styling questionable, but very reliable, very British

A great used buy. Reliable, economical and spacious. Buy a 1275 A+ model in SL/LX trim and you'll travel far for a fiver. Parts are plentiful and reasonably priced (check the roadside and DIY store car-parks for dumped maestro's). Just don't expect to hog the outside lane on a motorway or overtake uphill.

This poor car inherited its genes from the austin allegro so it is hidiously ugly.It does use the familar A series engines so is cheap and quite reliable. There was a 2 litre turbo version which was very fast, very rare and still very ugly.they can rust badly everywhere so itsusually pretty obvious when its too far gone. Some though were bought by their elderly owners and cosseted so these are good buys if you can bear the styling!!

OI! Leave the Allegro alone. The Allegro was underpowered, but it's blimin' supersonic compared to the 1.3 Maestro.

I drive a Maestro 2.0 Turbo Diesel
(Clubman version) dated 1994.
100Bbhp and 54mpg! that's what I call
good value for money!Reliable Perkins
Diesel engine.
I have driven many times to the
continent with it, it sits comfortably
at 90mph, after that it gets just too
noisy, even though it will do 115mph
flat out.
Drawbacks are that it is noisy,
relatively soft suspension, good
underneath but rusty on the outside.
But when I calculate my cost per mile
and compare that with any other car, I
am laughing all the way to the bank.
No problems with leaving the car in the
city centre either, if it get
scratched, who cares?!
It is not a ladiescar, but then you buy
this car for sensibility, not to be
sexy.
