i own a 2.0 16 valve nova, the engines out of a calibra 16 and have had it chipped and the engines been played with and tweeked. last rolling road was pusing out 180 bhp at the wheels. this car had embaraasd alot of ppl in posh 20 to 30 grand cars and i go past them and soon wipes the smig look on there face. i've pulled low 14s at santa pod and gonna be doing aturbo conversion in the next 6 moths and shoudl wind out 300 to 400 bhp. great car and fun to drive but lots of torque steer
to the question 'Would you be upset being over taken by a 2.0L Nova?' the answer is no, because no nova would ever overtake me even if they tried and with or without 200bhp they'd just get laughed at when they make the attempt.
All nova's are unbelievably poor..always have been ....always will be.....end of story...wake up!
Are these people serious? 0-60 in 1-2 seconds in a Nova I read?? Are you in the real world where the laws of physics prevent a cube on wheels from doing that. Don't get me wrong, Nova's are a great car, reliable and very cheap to run, and great for a first car. But it isn't a sports car. They stear like a tank and they'll float all over the road at over 100MPH and the chassis (like on many Vauxhalls) is sloppy. You people talking about beating Ferrari's, Corvettes etc really need to wake up and smell the coffee. Ferrari spend millions developing their cars using the latest technology and some of the best engineers in the world, you Nova boys come home from college, clip on a few farty mods from Ripspeed, do you seriously believe that you can compete? Any Nova running more than about 200 BHP will loose most of it's power to wheelspin, it may be quick over a few hundred meters, but over a long distance or a bendy road it will fall apart. 0-60 in 1-2 seconds? Dream on.
GTE/GSI very tuneable, I've added a 272 duration cam, skimmed the head, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold to my GSi and it now produces 7.1 0-60 (at TRAX @ Silverstone '04) and 15.1 1/4 mile (Santa Pod). Also have astra 16v brakes and full bilstein adjustable suspension. P.S it looks standard, coz I'm nnot a bodykit person.
does anyone know were i can get a cheap corsa 1.2 which has a few exteror mods please contact me at [Log in to view email] cheers and novas are a gd reliable car most of the time cheers james
Um nova, well there all bit passed it unless your barrel scarping. There are some models of which i have driven working at brandshatch. The 1.3 SR seems to be a good bet if your 18 and want cheaper insurance and the carbs can be modded.
The true fact is renault did clio's with 3 speed automatics and 1.8 litres @ 128 BHP. The 1 st gear was a real goer as in all 3 speed autos (made famous by the Mustang and other great V8's (not 8 valves). The clio would do 60 with out a change, and hence, no loss of acceleration, unlike manual novas.
I guess the best thing for you all to look out for is the fear ratios. They are put like this 4:12 they refect the amount of engine turns to turns of the wheel. Vauxhals are notorious for poor gearboxes, cheap cars what do you expect. But still there are one or two good ones, if your changing to often like at 15 or 30 then you are not putting power thru the drive train and hence are not moving foward with engine power.
So if your scraping the bucket, as i know alot of fellow brits are with high taxes and labour govements, keep your eyes out for the good ones.
Sorry, you lot are dreaming..... Novas are a pile of sh*t, I drove my mates old one and had an old lady keeping pace with me in her mobility scooter. They look sh*t and don't handle at all. Buy a decent car..... Or get the bus
hmmm i smell a bull and some poop. So u have 350 bhp do u, going through the front wheels, blimey you must light your tyres up like a christmas tree. now why dont you go away and come back when you have got your car rolling roaded, coz to gain 200bhp is a stretch to the imagination, 75 bhp with 100bhp nos jet and perhaps 50bhp with a turbo.
I own a mk1 1.2 merit Carb engine its caperable of hitting 117mph which is the same as a bog standard 1.6GTE and its runing on the crap pierburg 1b1 carb. However i found that they only handle better when flying around coners with complete bilstein suspension and a set of decent alloys. In order to fit a 1.6 gte engine or any injection to carb engined car or a SR you have to rewire the, strengthen the engine bay and fit a injection fuel tank with fuel lines and a electric fuel pump. You even have to move engine/gearbox mounts and knock holes into the engine bay to fit a 2.0L engine.
I own a g-reg nova gte,ive modified the air box, high lift cam, blydenstein b+head adjustable cam pully, power boost valve and a powerflow exhaust,148 bhp very quick!i do most of my mates 0-60 even though they have turbos, its so reliable no turbo problems instant POWER
other mods:samco hoses, fully adj konis all round,17"s,full respray in gloss black, limo tint all round,gt gear nob, rally st,wheel, clear lights+indicators,no back seats.very quick car! also just started a rallycross widearch nova project,it will be FAT!
in reply to mr honesty....firstly i have a nova i admit its shit and its a 1.2 but i dont care cos i no i have better things to come.Now....i love my nova and il do things to make it look good or better, but then theres peeps like u that tell me to go and buy an old ferrarri or something,im 18 and i think that most insurance companies would shite their pants laucghin if asked how much it would cost to insure a rarri with 1 years no claims.u people slaggin of cars are funny cos at the end of the day if u mod ure car, then u should respect other people that are doing the same thing, the idea of it is to make ure car as nice as u can.The fact that u slag people for spending their hard earned cash on the same thing u do is beyond me.Just cos ure cars are faster, maybe everyone dont wanna race...argument done....close the case
We have got a late '92 Nova 1.5TD Merit Plus fitted with a cat which had to be replaced 2-3 years ago because it snapped. The rest of the original exhaust is just starting to fail, have replaced the tail section but need a mid section box. This is no longer available from Vauxhall and the local suppliers can't get one. Anyone know where there is one still in stock otherwise it's a trawl round the scrapyards which may only get us a rusted unit that'll blow in 6 months.
