fiat seicento ? a small unasuming car from italy , ? wrong , these cars are made in poland and the are one of the most underated small cars on our roads, having owned 4 of these cars i know what i am talking about, the model choice ranges from a 900cc pushrod engine'd model with the most basic of trim ,to the sporting with its super light electric power steering , central locking , electric windows , sunroof , alloy wheels , rev counter , sports trim right upto the top of the range ?? "abarth" or "schumacher ltd edition ", with extras such a anti-lock brakes , air con and 14" alloy wheels, the sporting model and the base model fitted with the larger 1100cc engine drive exeptionaly good and will pull from 25 mph in 5th gear effortlesly , both models should drive "in my experience" smoothly and rattle free with a good solid feel to them(please note that fiat made a model with a semi automatic clutch well heres my advice and i will leave this model out , " steer clear of it at all costs" enough said , they got it so wrong ), "it will take all of your money and leave you upset", the 1100cc engine is made by lancia , , fit a big bore exhaust change the air filtre for a free flow one and it completly transforms the engine without losing any of its 40 plus mpg economy , their is a phase 1 and phase 2 the phase 2 was introduced in 2000 although both are great small cars with fiat's anti rust treatments so still today you shouldnt find a rusty example , but the phase 2 if the better car with opening rear side windows , intermitent wipers , better heating controls and trim levels, both modes drive exeptionaly well for a small car , with a light positive gear chage and powerfull brakes, the space inside is very deseptive, with the rear seats folding down to create a large loading area ,, i once went camping using one of mine, 5 people 2 tents 5 sleeping bags 2 cases of beer all the food we needed plus 3 large disposable barbaques, , reliability , well i have had 1 breakdown in my ownerships of these cars and it was the ignition sensor, i got a second hand one of a punto as it was a sunday , i fitted it ( about 10 mins ) easy job then went on my way, |
