The Avenger really was just a whole heap better than the 1970 alternatives. The 1500/1600 cars had lively performance, they all had great handling which put the Morris Marina to shame. Reliability was good apart perhaps from some early dynamo equipped models. Rust was no more an issue than other cars of the time, perhaps less. They are now collectible classics, parts are not too difficult to get, but they are still sensibly priced. Enjoyable to drive, roomy, lightweight, and with very cute rear lights (Hillman saloons), they still may good everyday transport.
Talbot Solara SX saloon, loads of goodies for a 1983 motor cruise control, trip computer,c/l,e/w,s/r, heated seats, etc, top of the range. The main let down was the grim engine 1.6 noisy and underpowered, sounded like an old diesel. Apart from this and the volvo shape, the car had a smooth ride and I enjoyed the reliability of this motor.
