The Nova MK 4 was my second Nova owned. I bought my MK 4 from Nova Cars of Dewsbury, Yorkshire in kit form. The kit contents were main body, side sills, bonnet, boot, dashboard, rear window tunnel, canopy and windscreen (fitted). The VW Beetle chassis was supplied by Balena Car and Custom and was fitted with a Rover 3.5 V8 engine on the VW gearbox. The build of the car was not easy but because I was building the car from scratch meant that I could build the car to my own specifications. Once the car was finnished it was a real head turner and extreamly fast. I had great fun in the Nova durring the summer but because of the V8 engine and its power it was very unnerving driving it on icy roads in winter so it was sold to a German who took it to Berlin where it still exists today!
Great summer fun car. Remote control electricaly operated canopy door, Elecric door mirrors (genuine Ferrari Testarosa), reversing camera, sunroof, swoopy good looks
Not a winter car.

Nova Mk 4 Kit Car.

My Nova Kit Car was factory built by ADD Developments of Southampton during the 1970's. It was body number 13. The Nova Kit Car is a very good looking swoopy Ferrari / Lamborghini style sports car made out of fibreglass and bolted to a VW Beatle floorpan and using the VW engine or other engine by means of a adaptor plate. The main feature of the Nova is the doors or to be more correct 'canopy' which lifts upwards on gas rams allowing driver and passenger to enter the vehicle. My Nova was fitted with a VW 411 1600cc twin carb engine from a VW Variant. I had my Nova for just over a year and it was great fun to drive but the driving position takes a lot of getting use to because it is racing car style. The car never let me down and because of its styling was a fantastic femail of the species magnet. I traveled all over the U.K. in it and its performance on the motorways was good but driving around town could be a little unnerving because of poor rear visibility. Surprisingly insurance costs were very reasonable. I was only 18 when I had my Nova and fully comprehensive insurance was £320.00
Fantastic looks, canopy door, nothing else like it on the road during the 70's for the same price
Being a kit car the build quality is not quite Rolls Royce standard
