We have had our 03 grand cherokee for over 4 yrs, its done 87k (45k in our ownership) its a 2.7 merc engine and gearbox overland and has been totally trouble free. we p/exd a 02 Discovery TDI which troublesome, we nicknamed the Disco the UN car (unreliable, uncomfortable, uneconomical, you get the picture) we have just returned from a 4500 mile year long tour of Spain in the Jeep trouble free, and averaged 33.4 MPG unlike the Disco which averaged 25 mpg. Servicing on the Jeep is every 12500 miles A service costs around £240 (minor) B service (Major) every second year approx 360. The only problem we are experiencing now is the Bi directional heater blows cold air on the passenger side. This ia the second grand we have owned and with both of them have and still do tow a large twin axle caravan, the torquey motor in the Jeep i find ideal we get approx 20-22 mpg with the van on the back. high trim levels, good handling and nippy performance combined with great comfort means I would be very hard pressed to find a similar 4X4 for the money, we love it
fuel economy. low cost servicing
engine can be noisy at low speeds

Grand Cherokee Overland
Owned for 4 years.
I have had my Grand Cherokee for 6 years, it is a V reg year 2000, it has about 74k on the clock and I have always loved my Jeep.
I have had a couple of problems and the breakdown guys say that these seem to be common problems with the Grand Cherokee's as in:
If I leave even 1 interior light on overnight 99% of the time battery will be dead in the morning.
In the rain they do not handle very well at all unless you put all terrain tyres on which for normal everyday driving is not needed.
The immobiliser can cause problems as if the battery goes dead then not only can car thieves not get past the immobiliser but neither can I.
So only a couple of minor problems so on the whole I would buy another Grand Cherokee as it is beast of a car with either a 4.0, 4.7 or 54.7 litre engines on the petrol versions and it is a very comfy drive, I get about 12 miles to the gallon and it costs about £85 to fill it up which made my eyes water the first couple of times but after a couple of fill ups you get used to this and get over the shock when you hand over nearly £100 for a tank of petrol.
The last thing that I absolutely hater is in winter at the petrol station I stand next to someone filling up their car which takes about 5 minutes and to fill the Jeep takes about 10 to 15 minutes and my god it is cold standing there all that time to fill it up when I got their first and am still stood filling when car next to me is filled, paid and probably half way home while my hands are nearly dropping off due to the cold.
I would recommend to absolutely anyone as I love my Chelsea tractor and it does the school run like a dream (yes I do the school ruin in my 4 x 4 and am proud to be in it)
comfort, very fast, no-one dares to pull out in front of me as iin an accident it would damage their car far more than it would mine, heated leather seats lovely in winter
cost of filling up, immobiliser problems. battery not that good, having heated leather seats that have stopped heating up
