I have owned my Malin, Rare Bird for twelve years which in its' self says a lot about the boat. She is ketch rigged with bilge keels with traditional six berth accomodation, two foreward, two in the main saloon and two in the aftercabin. This provides adequate space for four persons, six would be rather tight. My wife and I generally sail her on our own and the accomodation is ideal for us as we use the aft cabin as our bedroom. The Malin has a very deep and secure cockpit protected by avery effective wheel shelter. The original BMC diesel has been replaced with a Perkins Parama M30 which driving a 15 x 10 prop gives a speed of 6.6 knots. She can sail at 7 knots under ideal conditions. (A force 4/5 on abeam reach) Generally passage plans are made assuming a sailing speed of 4.5 knots. A cruising chute is essential in light winds. She will tack through 90 degrees and is an excellent sea boat. We have cruised safely in her about Northern Britain often in poor conditions when we have been reassred by sea keeping qualities. All in all the Malin is an excellent cruising yacht capable of challenging her more expensive competitors
