I have owned a Trek 100 bike since July. I purchased it second hand at a bicycle auction, which was a great move. I got it pretty cheap - only £200 - and it was in good condition. My bike has the "union jack" colouring.
Overall I would say the fact that is the "budget" trek bike does show, although not greatly. Sometimes the rear wheel falls off as I cycle over bumps, which has led to a couple of potentially-quite nasty wedgies! Luckily I was wearing my cricket box which saved me one time.
Generally, I would say - if you can find a good, cheap example of the Trek 1000 I would say go for it, but dont overspend or get one that is rusty. It is a trusty steed and has served me well.
