Bought my 20v 90 for 900 British pounds about a month ago. What a bargain - a/c, e/m, e/w, heated seats, headlamp washers, sports seats, trip computer, aero 15' alloys and of course that glorious 20v 5 cylinder beast of a motor. It just made perfect sense. 105000 miles on the clock so she's just about run-in! Cost so far are 2 new tyres, interior switch lamps and new bushes for the front suspension (tip- get these before splashing out on new gas konis or bilsteins - after fitting the new bushes I though I had!) Average just under 30mpg at moment but that's around town and I'm itching to take her on a long haul but I'm worried I may get a sore face 'cause I smile so much when I get behind the wheel! Planning on getting the new metal distributer gear as I've heard it's an effective replacement to the rather delicate plastic original. Never had so much fun since my old v-dub '73 T3 fastback and I'm only 24! Go on, you know you want one.......just not mine!
With hesitation, I bought a 1990/90, manual shift which was well maintained in its lifetime. The climate control and a/c went out, but other than that, it gets up and moves. The styling compared to other cars on the road, holds and not dated. I was warned against the automatic transmission. The California emission controls do not impede its performance. It is comfortable, hauls butt and no more expensive to repair than other cars. The appearance, the performance and safety would recommend it. It fares well against late model luxury cars from Japan and Germany even being a 1990! Mike, San Diego, California/USA
Excellant value for money no Ford or Vauxhall can compare in any way, especially the body work department, most of these have never needed painting due to rust.Sweet 5 cylinder engine lasts for well over 250,000 miles if looked after.
ONE OF THE BEST CARS I HAVE OWNED. THE AUDI 90 IS BY FAR ONE OF THE MOST RELIABLE CARS ON THE ROAD. IN THE 8 YEARS THAT I HAVE HAD IT BESIDES THE DAY TODAY RUNNING EXPENSES OF RUNNING A CAR , I HAVE ONLY HAD TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR,OTHER THAN THAT IT IS WELL WORTH THE MONEY I PAYED.PARTS ARE COSTLY BUT IF YOU GO TO A GERMAN/SWEDISH DEALER THEY ARNT THAT MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE THAN MOST CAR PARTS.

This is the oldest car I have ever owned (now 14 yrs old) but by far the best. I've had it over 2 yrs and it has only failed once - I lent it to my Dad who flooded the engine through pumping the accelerator - not used to fuel injection! Performance is brisk and it will cruise all day at high motorway speeds. For its bulk it is surprisingly economical - low 20s round town but upto 45 mpg on a run - and that's not hanging about. I still think the car looks classy for it's age. The bodywork has worn well with only superficial rust. I would definitely buy an 80 or 90 again.Tip - buy the best condition one you can find which has been meticulously maintained. Provided it hasn't done a million miles it should then be very reliable and surprisingly cheap to own. Also, get spares from German and Swedish or Europarts. Main dealer prices are horrific.
Owned for 2 years.
