I have owned my 3dr GTI for over a year now and i must say it is the best Rover out of the 200 and 400 range. Performance is spectacular for a 1600 and as its the honda engine it likes to rev hard!! Only modifications done is a PiperX airfilter, which sounds very nice after 5000 RPM and lowered suspension (because of the dodgy handling!) The car even managed to keep running with only bodywork damage after a frontal collision with a range rover.
This is my 4th Rover, and its the only one that hasnt had to have the headgasket replaced, in fact there have been no mecanical problems what so ever with it. Only problem being the engine outlives the bodywork!!
I would highly recomend the 216 GTI to anyone if you can find them as they are getting quite rare now. Hopefully i will have many more years trouble free motoring
