The 2nd review on this page is mine. I write this now having owned a MT-03 for 4 months/3,500 miles.
After my test ride I couldn't stop thinking about the bike. So, I sold my year old CBF500 and bought a new white 'MT' from a Yamaha dealer in Herts. I paid just £4,265 with a bit of haggling. 10 days/500 miles later and they tried to charge me £60 for the first FREE service! We settled on £30.
But what about the bike? It's fantastic: short, taut and full of sport. The adjustable brakes are stunning, the engine grunty enough round town and nearly enough on all but the biggest roads. The chassis/frame is ridiculously good - you can hang off the bike or push it down like a dirt-bike and it steers accuratly and quickly every time. Comfort? Well I rode to Paris and back in 2 days without too much discomfort, London to North Yorkshire - no problem.
The suspenson was a little stiff/overdamped at first but it seems to be getting plusher. The tyres have another 1,000 miles in them. It does 110 to reserve on longer trips but that dips to just 85 round town. So it is a little thirsty. The headlight is stunningly good, the chain stretches hugely at first then settles down but needs lubing regularly. The mirrors are excellent, the speedo easy to read, great steering lock and the whole bike feels light and is just great fun.
I've had more compliments on this bike than any other and its looks have kept their quirky charm. In short, if you don't want a stiff back and too may points - but you do want fun on even the shortest ride to the shops get yourself an MT-03, just don't pay full price.

I tired the MT 03 on a 40 minute test ride and was impressed. I've had road based and dirt bike singles before and feel that the MT 03 is an excellent compromise. It steers quickly but still feels stable at speed. The seating postion is excellent but still allows room to shift about. The brakes were fine and the engine punchy but still smooth and tractable; it pulled top gear at 20mph okay. The bike looks great and sounds suitably gruff and seems to be a much better all round proposition than some other heavier, slower, more fragile single cylinder bikes. I'm sure the £4,900 price tag will put many British buyers off who understandably think a 660 single should cost less than this no matter how nice it looks! I'm going to wait at least a year expecting the price to settle around the £4,300 mark. An interesting bike.
The new MT-03 seems to be a very nice bike. The 660cc single cylinder engine produces sufficient power to transport you around at reasonable speeds whilst not being overwhelming. Handling is fairly tame as well but it doesn't seem to lean down too happily. Something that is a must on the MT-03 is to invest in a set of aftermarket cans to give it a beefier sound and free up a couple of extra horses. Overall I am impressed with the bike and it is definitely worth looking into if you are considering a new bike.
