I may only be 15 years old but already a Renault 18 has played a big part in my life. Sadly because of the necessity to put salt on the road during the winter(I live in Montreal,Canada), the entire bottom of the car was rusted out. In the summer of 1997, my father sadly scrapped the 18. It was the car that was my life for 10 years and for that it shall be missed.

I purchased a 1980 Renault 18 7 years ago. It had been 'bush bashed' at some stage according to my mechanic, and it pulls a little to the left despite wheel alignment. The car is very reliable, although the starter motor plays up about once a year. It's comfortable, easy to maintain and the engine is astonishing i.e. 22 years without any significant work and still pulls strongly up hills in 5th gear. It cruises well, and is fairly smooth and quiet on the freeway. Suspension is typically French - soaks up the bumps very well without feeling too 'floaty'. I owned 2 R12s before this, but the 18 feels more solid and is quieter. I always felt the 12s should have had a 5th gear. Parts are cheap and easy to get - in Australia anyway.
